The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving

Lucas leaned wearily against the soft pillows. Looking at Maria's stern and angry expression, he didn't appear flustered. Instead, he said calmly, "Grandma, your blood pressure is high. Please calm down."

Maria immediately frowned. "Don't change the subject. I want a clear answer from you."

As she spoke, the corners of her mouth trembled. She even found it difficult to speak. "Is Ms. Moore your..."

He looked up at her. It was probably from the blood loss, but his complexion was pale. Even his usually rosy lips had faded to a soft pink. He showed no intention of explaining.

He simply looked at her in silence.

Maria suddenly felt a wave of dizziness. She paced a couple of steps, after which she took a deep breath. "I don't care if you two have anything going on. If Evie minds her presence, and you won't resolve it, I will do it."

He finally spoke slowly this time. "Evie doesn't mind."

She stared at him, momentarily speechless.

Lucas knew her temper well. With a light sigh, he pushed himself up to sit a little straighter. "Grandma, this is between us. You don't need to get involved."

"You..." Maria looked at his pale face, and all the words of reproach were caught in her throat. "Lucas, I hope you're not an ungrateful person. Evelyn is a gentle person. Anyone can bully her, but not you."

"Okay," replied Lucas. Then, he smiled and added, "Since you care about her so much, how could I dare do so?"

She sighed. She also understood that if anything did happen, it was ultimately up to the couple to work through it themselves. What could she really do?

"Does it still hurt?" Maria finally stepped forward, still clearly pained on his behalf. Lucas smiled casually. "It's nothing."

"And what about Evie? Where did she go?" she asked, assuming that Evelyn must have just stepped out briefly and would be staying by Lucas' side.

Lucas remained expressionless, lying, "She went to buy something."

Maria didn't press any further. She didn't truly understand what went on between the two of them. She wanted to help, but she didn't know where to start.

She stayed for over half an hour before Lucas finally persuaded her to leave.

Once she was gone, his brow furrowed slightly. He lowered his head to glance at his right arm. The anesthesia had likely worn off, so waves of searing pain began to surge.

The abrasions from his palm to his fingertips burned, as if the skin had been flayed off. However, he paid little attention to his injuries.

He reached for the phone at his bedside, turned it on, and glanced at it for a while. Only then did he close his eyes to rest.

Just after 7:00 am the next day, Mason and Jason picked Tiffany up, and they arrived at the hospital together.noveldrama

She probably didn't sleep well, as her complexion was pale. As soon as she entered, she rushed to check on Lucas and asked anxiously, "Does it still hurt? Aren't they still pumping the pain meds?"

Lucas glanced at the three people in front of him. His expression was calm as usual. "It's fine."

"What do you mean by that? A drone that big has rotors that are no different from sharp blades when it's running at such a high speed. You just don't want to make people worry," Tiffany commented and took a deep breath, her eyes filled with worry.

Mason walked over and placed a delicate lunchbox on the bedside table. "Tiffany's really worried about you. Look at her-she probably didn't sleep much last night. She got up and cooked something for you first thing this morning. Tiffany looked a bit hesitant at that. "It's my first time cooking... I've never done it before, so I'm not sure if it turned out okay. Lucas, do you want to try it?"

She opened the container and gave him a small serving.

Lucas turned his head and glanced at it. "Thank you."

Jason looked at his arm. "Are they changing the dressing later?"
