Chapter 257
Lucas let out a soft hum.
Only then did Mason sigh. "You have guts. You were so worried Tiffany might get hurt that you didn't even think about yourself."
That drone, with its load, weighed over 132 pounds-heavier than Tiffany herself. As such, it wasn't surprising that Lucas would take the hit without hesitation.
They never expected that he would grab the wrong person in the darkness. Fortunately, Tiffany hadn't been injured.
Upon hearing this, Tiffany furrowed her brows slightly. She was partially concerned, relieved, and moved.
Jason still felt the lingering fear. If Lucas hadn't made that mistake, the one injured would've been Evelyn.
With that thought, he asked, "What exactly happened? How did you grab the wrong person?"
Lucas stirred the bowl of oatmeal with his spoon, his expression calm and unshaken. "The wind stirred up by the rotor was too strong. I couldn't open my eyes and lost my sense of direction."
Jason nodded. It was true that the wind produced by the mid-sized drone was no joke.
"Did the doctor say how long you'll need to stay in the hospital?" Tiffany asked.noveldrama
Lucas paused to consider her words. His injuries weren't just surface-level. The bone had fractured, and his right arm was currently immobile. "Around a week, I think."
Mason leaned back on the couch and bit into an apple. "As long as it didn't hit anything vital, it's manageable."
After some thought, Tiffany asked suddenly, "What's Dr. Miller's specialty?"
"Why?" Jason looked up and asked in response.
Tiffany hesitated for a moment before explaining, "It's about my mother's follow-up treatment. I want to switch to a more authoritative doctor. I heard he's pretty well- known internationally, but I don't know much about his background.
"Jason, aren't you close with Dr. Miller?"
Jason's expression changed subtly. He was surprised she would bring that up, but he had already arranged for Evelyn to meet with Harry for a chat.
"We're friends, but I'm not sure about that stuff. Plus, the final decision doesn't rest with me."
A flicker of disappointment appeared in Tiffany's eyes, but she smiled faintly in the end. "It's fine. Let's talk about it another time."
Halfway through, she had stepped out to take a work call. Only then did Mason walk over again to glance at Lucas' bandaged arm.
A chill went down his spine. "Is it going to leave scars?"
Lucas had already opened his laptop and didn't seem to care about it much. "It might."
Clicking his tongue, Mason commented, "Don't you think Evelyn has ridiculously good luck? You basically took the hit for her, and the key thing is that she didn't even sustain a scratch. That's some insane luck."
A drone that massive came crashing down, yet she escaped unscathed. If that wasn't luck, what was?
Lucas tapped his left hand on the keyboard, not even bothering to look up when he replied, "Is that so? I didn't notice."
Mason figured it made sense that Lucas hadn't noticed. In a situation like that, he must have been worried sick about Tiffany. Where would he find the time to worry whether Evelyn was injured?
That led Mason to glance around the room suddenly. "She hasn't been here?" Jason looked up this time, too.
After answering a few emails from work, Lucas replied, "No."
Mason looked shocked. "Does she still have a conscience? Even if you meant to save Tiffany and it all went sideways, she should've at least come to visit you. What's she playing at?"
Back then, wouldn't she have taken any excuse to stay by his side to care for him day and night? This was such a great opportunity. Why didn't she take it?
What do you think?
