Chapter 227
Chapter 227:
“You know, this is your problem,” she said, standing up from her chair to come around behind me. “You’re too meek. That’s why Dominic needs somebody like me—somebody who can take charge, somebody who doesn’t just fade into the background.”
Her words hit a nerve, but I didn’t say anything. I kept my attention on the task at hand, reminding myself to breathe.
When I was finally done cooking something to eat, I took my plate and disregarded Eliza’s pointed stare as I headed for the living room. I just wanted to eat in peace, away from her taunting voice.
Peace, however, was not mine to have.
Just as I sat down on the couch, Eliza came marching in behind me. There was something wild blazing in her eyes, and before I could move, she slapped the plate out of my hands.
The shock of it hitting the ground made me convulse in anger.noveldrama
“What is wrong with you?!” I screamed, my voice shaking with fury.
Eliza scrunched up her face. “What’s wrong with me? What’s wrong with you? You’re ridiculous, Faith. Can’t you see the way you look? A miserable little woman.”
“Smothering a man who doesn’t even want you.” Her words pushed me over the edge. I snapped.
Without thinking, I shoved her—hard. She staggered backward, her arms windmilling as she lost her balance and crashed into the glass coffee table. The sound of shattering glass filled the room, followed by her scream of pain.
Blood formed a puddle around her as she writhed on the floor, clutching her arm where shards of glass had pierced her skin. I froze, my chest heaving as the reality of what I’d done sank in. Alex burst into the room, his eyes wide with panic. “What the hell happened?!”
I couldn’t answer him. My mouth opened, but no words came out.
“Faith!” he shouted, rushing to Eliza’s side. “Call an ambulance!” But I couldn’t move. My body felt as if it were made of lead. I gazed at the blood on the ground, at Eliza’s pale face, and all I could think was: I killed her. I killed her.

“Faith, snap out of it!” Alex shouted, cutting through the haze, but I was too far gone.
The last thing I heard, before everything went dark, was Dominic screaming my name. Then, nothing.
DOMINIC
I felt like absolute shit. Faith was right. Hell, everyone was right. What the fuck was I thinking, bringing Eliza into my home? Our home. I should’ve taken her somewhere else—dragged her to some apartment far away, anything to keep Faith from having to deal with her presence. Instead, I’d invited chaos into the one place Faith should’ve felt safe.
I ran a hand through my hair, yanking at the strands as if the pain would somehow help me think straight. When had I become such a moron? My actions were normally well thought out and calculated. But not this time. This time, I’d let emotion and stupidity steer the ship.
I glanced over at Faith, lying so still in the hospital bed. Her face was pale, her breathing steady but shallow. The doctor had said she’d passed out from stress. Stress that I had caused. She didn’t deserve this—any of it. And Eliza? I didn’t care that she bled. Hell, I knew she was faking it, putting on her little theatrics. But Faith? She was really hurt, and I didn’t know how to fix it.
The door creaked open, and Alex stepped through. His face was grim as his eyes raked over me, then Faith, and back again. “This has gone way too far,” he said, his voice low and firm. “You need to put a stop to this insanity, Dominic. Now.”
“I know,” I muttered, hardly able to look him in the eye. Even to my ears, my voice lacked conviction. “I screwed up. It was stupid to let Eliza stay.”
