Chapter 474 The Man Behind the Mask
s
Everyone seemed to think Johnathan was easy to deal with—but they couldn’t have been more wrong.
Wayne might’ve cared about face and reputation, but Johnathan didn’t bother with that sort of restraint.
Gross him, and you’d pay for it–plain and simple. noveldrama
Mateo, listening from the side, chimed in. “I still say we need to keep an eye on that fake foreigner. I’ve been watching him. After the break, he was supposed to fly home, but my people say he never made it. No one knows where he went.”
He’d been keeping tabs on White. Having been humiliated by him twice, Mateo had a bone to pick–and he wasn’t about to let it go.
“He didn’t go back?”
Johnathan raised an eyebrow, now intrigued.
“Yeah. The flight records say he flew back to Noravia, but there’s no trace of him there. Nothing showing he landed or traveled onward.”
“No clue what kind of tricks he’s pulling,” Mateo muttered–just as Maddox offered another possibility.
“Could be a decoy. He’s got a special status. It wouldn’t be unusual to disguise his movements. Probably flew on a private jet. Everything else is just smoke and mirrors.”
It made sense.
White’s family held similar power abroad as the Wynn family did at home.
Sure, he’d said there were many heirs in his family–but everyone knew only a handful were truly in the running.
White was obviously one of them. It made sense that his family would be cautious about his safety.
Mateo understood all that too. But that didn’t mean he had to like the guy.
As they chatted, the food finished cooking–roast rabbit and grilled fish, all done to a smoky golden. brown.
They weren’t professional chefs, but after catching and cooking everything themselves, the meal tasted amazing.
Mateo was especially over the top, devouring half a rabbit and a whole fish, stuffed to the point of bursting.
After a long afternoon of jokes and games, the sky began to darken and the group started heading back down the mountain.
No one really wanted to leave.
Sierra offered with a smile, “Professor Yaager and I are planning to grow some vegetables ourselves. You’re welcome to come anytime.”

Sierra, you’ve been spending too much time with Johnathan you’re getting sneaky, someone laughed
“Calling * ‘fun when it’s clearly just free labor.”
So are you coming or not?” Johnathan asked directly,
“Of course we are?” Mateo responded before anyone else could.
Laughter broke out again.
Once the guests left, Sierra and Johnathan finally returned to the house.
Suddenly, Johnathan asked, “Tell me about White.”
Sierra blinked. “What brought that on?”
“I want to understand him better,” Johnathan said simply.
Something about White didn’t sit right with him.
All available information showed nothing suspicious. Even the Ministry of Commerce had partnered with him–a clear sign that he’d been thoroughly vetted.
That department didn’t work with just anyone. If they let him invest, they must’ve dug deep and found nothing wrong.
And on the surface, White didn’t seem like someone worth worrying about–careless with his words, disarming, unthreatening.
But Johnathan trusted his gut.
And his instincts were telling him, White wasn’t what he seemed.
Sierra didn’t quite know where to begin, so she shared her impressions from working with him in the lab.
“He’s impressive. He picks things up really fast.”
She glanced at Johnathan.
Last time I felt that kind of pressure from someone… it was you.”
Johnathan had always been on a different level–so sharp, it made others feel small.
“White’s like that too. Everything comes naturally to him.”
She shared bits of their previous exchanges.
“He said his father has a lot of children,” Johnathan noted suddenly.
“Yeah. And from the way he said it, he’s not one of the favored ones.”
Johnathan rubbed his fingers together, deep in thought.
He didn’t know much about White’s family, only that it was powerful–and very private.

If it was hard to find information on White, then his father was a complete black hole.
Still, this might be the angle to explore.

“Oh, and Grandpa told me to stay away from White,” Sierra added. “He seemed really cautious–said White wasn’t nearly as simple as he pretended to be.”
She hadn’t mentioned it earlier since Johnathan had been in a bad state.
But now, hearing her say that, something flickered through Johnathan’s mind–a connection he couldn’t quite grasp.
Still, he had a plan forming.
Maybe it was time to spend more time around White.
He wanted to see for himself what kind of man he was dealing with–and whether his suspicions were justified.
He discussed it quietly with Sierra, who nodded in agreement.
What do you think?
