The Cherished Wife

Chapter 910

"Wait up!" Charles was on the phone with Ronald, instructing him to scope out who had been around Phoenix Tree Residence that night and to upgrade their security system pronto. Once he hung up, he caught sight of the syringe clutched in Peter's hand, and the look in his eyes was nothing short of predatory.

"Looks like... it's about to go down!"

Peter was looking pretty rough, and Steven gave him a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "The guy who just took action is Quill Sect's top hitman, Shane Quill. He's the same dude who went after Charles before..."

Charles scrunched his brow in concern. "I'm gonna fetch Sean to figure out what's in this syringe. Brandon..." Peter did not wait for him to finish. He rushed to check on Brandon, but the kid was out like a light, not showing any signs of trouble.

Peter peeled back Brandon's blanket and inspected his arm, spotting the telltale puncture mark. A fierce glint flashed in Peter's eyes, and he scooped up Brandon, ready to bolt. However, Steven pressed a firm hand on Peter's shoulder. "Hold on., Let Sean take a look first. What do you think Tania's gonna say if you just take off with Brandon now?"

Peter's brow furrowed deeper. "But Brandon..."

"Sean first."

Charles returned with Sean in tow, and Sean was all business for once. He strode up to Peter, took one look at Brandon, and said, "Lay him down on the bed."

Peter gently placed Brandon on the bed while Sean gave him a quick once-over, checking his temperature with the back of his hand. "He seems okay for now, but I've got to run some tests on this syringe, and... I need to draw some blood from Brandon."noveldrama

Peter gave a nod. "Sure thing!"

"If this syringe turns out to have some nasty virus, then Brandon... If we can't confirm it, I might need to run a whole bunch of tests. You know how it is with viruses and their incubation periods, so brace yourself. And about Tania, you..."

"Let's keep it under wraps for now." Peter's voice was rough with concern. "She'll just worry."

He had overheard Noelle and Tania's exchange in the kitchen earlier, so he was aware of the hardships Tania had faced those past three years and the injuries Brandon had suffered. The thought of her son in pain would tear Tania apart.

"You can't hide the truth forever, and Tania is Brandon's mom. She deserves to know."

"We'll follow Peter's lead for now. Let's figure out what we're dealing with first, then we'll decide whether to fill Tania in," Charles said, giving Sean a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "You're on it, Sean."

"Got it!" Sean might come off as a bit of a goofball usually, but he knew how to step up when it counted. "How did you guys figure out there was someone upstairs?"

Peter's brow creased just a bit. "Just a gut feeling."

He was not sure at first, but he just had that eerie feeling that the silence downstairs was too much, especially after Tania had told them about Brandon's past kidnapping scare. Peter figured that if someone was really out to get them, Brandon was in big trouble.

Sean's face turned grave, and he paused for a beat. "I'm gonna skip the meal. I need to run these tests ASAP to figure out what we're dealing with." "Got it!" Peter nodded, appreciative. "Thanks a bunch."

Sean quirked an eyebrow. "When I get the results, you're buying me dinner, deal? Catch you later!" With that, he took another blood sample from Brandon with the syringe and dashed off.

Poor Brandon woke up to the sting, his little nose and cheeks streaked with tears.

Downstairs, Tania watched Sean

bolt out and heard Brandon's sobs. Peter was cradling Brandon and

trying to calm him down. Charles et

and Steven just stood there, slack-jawed, until they saw Peter's bumbling attempts. They could not for the first time amidst the chaos.
