All day, Stella had wanted to ask Bryan what was going on, but she couldn’t find the right moment. After Bryan and Eileen had left in the evening, Stella sank back into the sofa with a sigh.

“Something on your mind?” Jarred noticed Stella gazing out the window. He smiled. “Mr. and Mrs. Dawson visit you often these days. It’s clear Mrs. Dawson cares deeply for you. They’ll be back next week.”

Stella said, “It’s not that. It’s just… Bryan is being awfully attentive to Eileen, don’t you think?”

Jarred had given the couple their privacy earlier, so he hadn’t noticed anything unusual. “That’s not something you should concern yourself with.”

Before Jarred could finish speaking, the doorbell rang. A fancy car had just stopped at the entrance.

“I’ll go and see who has come.” Jarred walked briskly to the door and opened it. After a brief conversation with the person outside, his expression changed before he returned inside.

Stella could tell something was off, so she had already gotten to her feet and headed toward the entrance.

“It’s the Deleon family,” Jarred explained. “They want to talk to you about Mr. Dawson causing trouble for their family. Should I give him a call now?”

Stella’s face darkened when she heard that the Deleon family was here. How dare they show their faces? She waved Jarred off. “No need. Let them in. I want to hear what they have to say.”

She marched back to the living room and sat down on the sofa.

Jarred went back outside and ushered the guests inside.

Amoura and Presley entered. Presley’s face seemed fine, with only minor injuries, but the bruises on her wrist were hard to miss. Presley tried to hide them, but Stella, with her sharp eyes, noticed right away.

“Mrs. Dawson, Presley and I came to pay our respects,” Amoura said, placing two gift boxes on the coffee table.

Stella raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t you say you were here about my grandson causing trouble for your family? Just get to the point.”

Amoura didn’t seem bothered by Stella’s bluntness. She sat down calmly and said, “I’m here to introduce you to your future granddaughter-in-law.”

Stella’s eyebrows shot up. She fixed Amoura with a frosty glare. “What are you talking about? Isn’t Presley your daughter-in-law?”

Amoura gasped theatrically, placing a hand over her mouth. “Oh, Mrs. Dawson, you didn’t see the news? Presley and Colby are divorced. Presley is no longer part of the Deleon family.”

Stella scoffed. She hadn’t checked the news in ages and had no interest in it at all.

“I couldn’t care less about your family drama,” Stella declared, her voice firm. “I only acknowledge Eileen as my granddaughter-in-law.”

Presley shifted uncomfortably under Stella’s piercing stare. She was utterly baffled. Why had Amoura dragged her here? Before, in the office, Stella had subjected her to the same contemptuous look.
