Legendary Football Superstar

Chapter 054: Outburst in Desperation

After the kickoff, Luke grabbed the football tight, took a few quick steps back, and just

as he raised his right hand, he saw the offensive line was already in deep trouble. Justin was like a beast, crashing in hard. The offensive line looked like it was about to crumble any second.

Luke lifted his chin, scanning for the receivers. They were trying to shake off the defenders, but they hadn't hit full speed yet. They'd just crossed the thirty-five-yard line, not far enough, still not far enough.

Luke took two more quick steps back to the left, but in the next second, he saw Justin had already busted through the offensive line, arms outstretched, diving right at him. Damn it! This guy's a beast, a total beast!

In terms of raw power and speed, Luke was no match for Justin, at least not right now.

In a flash, Luke stood his ground, not dodging immediately but pausing for half a second. As Justin lunged at him, he ducked, feeling a storm sweep over his head, and his left shoulder got hit hard, almost knocking him off balance.

Luke took half a step back, steadied himself, and then pushed off with his left foot, running to the right. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Justin lose his balance and fall hard to the ground. This would buy him at least two seconds. Luke quickly refocused and moved to the right.

Just three steps, just three small steps to the right, and Luke saw two more defenders coming at him. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, the offensive line had

completely fallen apart. The Badgers' defense was shattered, and he could clearly see two big guys coming at him.

Alert! Alert! Alert!

Luke was in a tight spot. The two players on the right were closing in, cutting off all his escape routes. On the left was the fallen Justin, who could get up any moment, and the left side was his blind spot. He didn't know if any other defenders had broken through. It felt like a dead end.

Getting sacked here would cost them precious time they couldn't afford to lose. More importantly, if given another chance, he might not be able to dodge Justin again.

With a clear mind, Luke gritted his teeth and made another sharp change of direction. Maybe it was the month of yoga practice paying off, but his body was incredibly flexible in the face of danger, never losing balance. He charged to the left, dodging the two shadows lunging from the right. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Justin quickly getting up, but due to his unsteady balance, Justin couldn't fully stand. Yet, he still charged forward on all fours!

Then, the entire crowd gasped, including the commentators.

"Wow, a leap! Luke just pulled off a move usually reserved for running backs, leaping over Justin James Watt! This is a crazy attempt! Absolutely crazy!" The commentators, including Kirk, were shouting in shock, wave after wave, as no one had anticipated such a development.

A leap? It wasn't that dramatic. He merely jumped over Justin's hands, dodging his desperate tackle, and then quickly ran out. His body wobbled, his heart pounded, and his steps were unsteady, but that wasn't the point. The point was, where were the receivers? Damn it, where were the receivers?

Luke raised his head high, taking in the whole field. They had just crossed the twenty- five-yard line. This speed! Too slow! Way too slow! Worse, John had a defender sticking to him, step for step; Christian too. Cory had a bit of an opening, but he was too close, and his catching ability was limited.

Where was Logan? Logan was still trying to shake off his defender, just stepping onto the twenty-five-yard line, trying to push further. Not enough! Not enough, the distance was still not enough. Luke needed them to push deeper.

But there was no more time. Luke could already feel the storm surging behind him. Although the two defenders weren't as fast as Justin, running with the ball wasn't Luke's strong suit. In another second, the two players behind him would tackle him mercilessly.

He couldn't wait any longer.

Luke adjusted his steps and then threw the football forward to the left. This wasn't a bullet pass; it was a rainbow pass.

A rainbow pass meant a higher arc and longer hang time, giving the receivers more time to advance, but it also made it easier for the defenders to judge. But now, Luke had no other choice.

As soon as he released the pass, a violent hit came from behind, knocking Luke down hard. He felt his insides churning, but he couldn't worry about himself now. His eyes followed the football, tracing a high and far arc.

"Luke, Luke, Luke, the pass!" Kirk yelled, "At the last second, Luke let it fly. It's a rainbow pass, over forty yards, thirty-five yards, thirty yards... the football's still soaring. This is a straight-up Hail Mary to the end zone. Bold, super bold! Wait, what do I see? Logan! Logan's kicking it into high gear, he's speeding up!"

Kirk didn't even realize he was standing until his earpiece yanked him back, making him stop. But he still didn't fully register it, half-squatting as he stood. "Logan's shaken off the defender and is sprinting full speed ahead. The field's wide open in front of him, with two defenders trailing behind. The Badgers totally blew this coverage, a major defensive lapse. Logan's still accelerating!"

Logan sprinted with laser focus, breaking free from the defender's grasp and charging ahead without looking back.

As Luke's best receiving partner and training buddy for the past five months, he knew how spot-on Luke's long passes were. "Two '1's," meaning Luke was aiming directly for the end zone line, near the left side, with the exact spot adjusted based on the receiver's route, as they practiced regularly. So, all he needed to do was sprint, sprint with everything he had. He trusted Luke could make the pass, but could he catch it?

Logan looked up but still didn't see the football. Had he misjudged? No, the next second, the football arced over his head, making Logan's eyes light up. He stretched out his hands, made the catching gesture, and adjusted his position. There were no defenders around him; the closest one was two steps behind. Logan's eyes were glued to the football, fully focused, and then, he caught it!

Time seemed to freeze at that moment, like magic.

"Logan makes the catch! Touchdown! Touchdown! Touchdown!" Kirk stood up in a frenzy, yanking off his headset, pulling down a bunch of equipment, but he didn't care. He raised his hands high, grabbed the microphone, and shouted, "Logan makes the touchdown! In the final crucial moment, Luke dodged Justin's tackle, evaded two defenders, and then leaped over Justin's second tackle, throwing a rainbow pass, a forty-three-yard rainbow pass! Logan caught it at the end zone line and easily stepped into the end zone. A game-winning strike! The Bruins have delivered a game-winning strike in the final moments!"

Not just Kirk, the entire commentary booth was in an uproar. "Unbelievable, unbelievable!"

"We just witnessed the greatest comeback in ten years!"

"The Bruins completed a forty-three-yard pass, a game-winning strike!"

"Miracle! Miracle! An unimaginable miracle!"

"The game is over, and the Bruins' backup quarterback has ended it!"

The exclamations were everywhere, as if they couldn't believe their eyes. They were witnessing the most incredible moment in Rose Bowl history. They even forgot that Luke was an Avalis American quarterback, only knowing he was a backup who, in the last two minutes, pulled the Bruins back from the brink and turned the game around!

Annie was the first to jump up, screaming in disbelief. Her vision blurred as she kept shouting, unable to stop, her heart pounding so hard it felt like it would explode. But she wasn't alone; Jay and Jack beside her were already in a frenzy. To be precise, the entire Rose Bowl was in a frenzy.

Jeff stood on his chair, shouting, "I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!" He looked like a madman, repeating himself. Everyone around him was hugging, cheering, and shouting. Everyone in sight was screaming, jumping, and going wild. The roaring waves of excitement made the entire Rose Bowl tremble.noveldrama

Then Jeff saw Danny.

Danny tore off his T-shirt, howling, "This is what I'm talking about! Bruins! Bruins! Bruins!" It wasn't a wolf's howl but a bear's roar, passionate and intense. He turned around, eyes red and gleaming with excitement. Danny and Jeff roared at each other, "Bruins!" Emotions surged!

The roars echoed in the air, pounding on eardrums, making even the blood boil. At this moment, the Rose Bowl bloomed in its most brilliant, most beautiful form! Seventy thousand fans, a full seventy thousand spectators, celebrated wildly as if it were the end of the world! The surging heatwave mercilessly swallowed the thirty thousand Badgers fans who had traveled from afar.

John, Cory, Christian, and others rushed madly towards Logan, celebrating wildly, while the offensive line players swarmed towards Luke.

Luke, who hadn't had time to get up, suddenly became the foundation, with everyone piling on top of him, slapping his helmet hard, shouting madly, "Bambi! Bambi!" Their minds were filled with countless thoughts, but at this moment, they couldn't express them, leaving only one thought, calling out the hero's name, "Bambi!"

They did it, they really did it!
