Branch One Hundred and Nineteen
“Okay let’s start with something easy,” Jessica said taking a sip from her cup. “Favourite color? Mine is white”
“I don’t have one but if I was to pick I’ll pick Blue” he answered. Jessica made a mental note.
“Now you ask a question” she gestured to him.
“I don’t know what I can ask” he replied crunching up his face. “What can I ask? Why don’t you ask all the questions and I will just answer them”
‘What a great opportunity for me’ she thought to herself. “You are the one who wanted to know more about me” he teased.
She sighed. She did not like the teasing but she had to endure just until she could extort enough information from him.
“What’s your favorite thing to do and do not say work,” she asked him.
“I do not have but if I must choose something then I would choose horseback riding”
“So you can?” she asked amazed.
“This may sound cocky but there is this rich kid course that teaches you most of these things. I skydive, ride a motorcycle, ride a sports car, play hockey, and a lot of things which do not help us in life but make us look sophisticated”
“So golf too?” she asked.
“Yes,” he said with a sigh.
She let out a chuckle which was contagious and made him laugh too.
“What are your hobbies?”
“I have none”
“What?” she said almost screaming.
“None,” he said again.
“I think we need to fix that. Maybe cooking? Or reading a book? Or watching a movie?” she asked.
“None,” he said again firmly.
“Okay you know how well you made that meal in Aurora Haven?” she asked and he nodded. “I guess it would make a lot of sense if you take up cooking as a hobby. You would enjoy it so much and I think you would be good at it” she told him.
He opened his mouth to speak but she cut him off “And before you say no, take a moment, a good long moment to think about it” she told him.
“Okay” he said putting his hand to his chin and stroking it. He made a funny face to denote that he was thinking about it. “I have thought about it for as long as it takes me to sign a business deal and I think its a bad idea”
“It’s worth the try,” she said shrugging. “You are supposed to have a question for me,” she said.
“Aren’t you interested in me?” she asked.
“As a friend” she added when she replayed her words in her head.
“I am, I just do not know how to ask such questions”
“All you do is ask what you want to know about and then I answer”
“Are you sue that I would get an answer? Would it be a favorable answer?”
“I would try my best to answer truthfully but you must tell me your answer first and if I can’t answer then I will finish up that while bottle of wine on my own without your help,” she said pointing to the bottle in the corner.
“Anything to drink?” he asked in a chuckle.
“I am just trying to say would answer your question”
“Okay, then I guess what’s your favorite song genre?”
“My favorite song genre?” she asked stroking her chin.
“I guess if you can’t answer you should get started with the wine,” he said bringing the wine bottle closer to them.
“Wait,” she said before he could fill her cup. “it’s not like I don’t want to answer the question. You did not say your favorite genre”
“Okay I think I like classical”
“Why because as a billionaire it suits your taste better?”
“Because that’s all I grew up listening to. Before I lost my parent my mom used to listen to country music. I am sure she must have been the odd one out of all her friends” he said a smile on his face.
It was obvious he missed her so much without him saying a word. From what Genevieve said she would have been a very delightful person to meet. If she listened to country songs then her personality must have been so cheerful and heartwarming.
“What about you?” Xavier asked at the moment.
“I do not have a favorite genre. I listen to everything I can hear. Maybe I like pop?” she said in a question.
“Are you asking me?” he said pretending to turn the bottle to the glass.
“I like pop” she screamed with laughter.
“Pop?” she nodded. He shook his head.
“What? I don’t look like a pop kind of girl?” his face lit up in agreement. “Oh stop it. It’s my turn to ask a question right? Have you ever had a crush on a person before?”
“You did not answer the question,” he said. He did not want to answer the question. To him, that was like an unwanted question.
He began pouring the wine into his cup. “Do you pouring the wine mean you do not want to answer the question?” she asked him. He nodded.
“Stop,” she said stopping him before he could go any further. “You don’t have to answer if you do not want to. I just asked questions that are usually asked. I’ll ask something else. Where is your favorite place to have dinner? For me, it is at home. I love making my meals”
“For me, I’ll choose at home too. You make the best meals”
Jessica felt her heart skip. It was a compliment and it was the kind she loved hearing the most. If she could she wanted to hug him and whisper so many thanks in his ears.
“But before I met you liked eating at the Corner Diner”
“They do have nice meals there but it’s so expensive to get in there and have a meal. I went there once with Burke and we had to reserve a month in advance and we still got the worst seat there. The one close to the kitchen door” she said rolling her eyes.
“We could eat there tomorrow night, I’ll ask Brian to set it up”
Jessica could not believe her ears. How could it be possible for him to book it in one day? She wanted to argue with him but she wanted to see what he was actually really capable of.
“Your turn,” she said instead of the train of thought in her mind.
Xavier drew closer to her. They had been sitting on the ground legs crossed. She felt her body hair stand as he inched closer. “What’s your question?” she asked her voice shaky.
“Can I kiss you? My answer is yes”
Before she could say anything in response his mouth was over hers.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
