Winning Her Heart Back

Chapter 866

Chapter 866 Beck and Call

Emelie had always known that Jodie reported everything to Wesley. So, whether it was Lyle stopping by that night or her spending nearly a full day and night at Sunnington Hill, Wesley would probably know despite being all the way in Mercianna.

That meant he knew what Lyle had told her, and exactly what had gone down with William. He hadn't called in the last two days, most likely because he didn't know how to approach her, until now.

Emelie's eyes locked on her phone screen, where the words "Mr. Cronus" flashed in bright letters. She wondered what he wanted to say, but at the same time, she really wasn't in the mood to find out.

After she let it ring for a good ten seconds, she calmly reached over and pressed the decline button.

She hit the recline button on her chair and leaned back, letting it lower slowly into a more comfortable position.

Emelie leaned back and tried to relax, but her nerves wouldn't let her. Even after a few minutes of silence, the tension still buzzed beneath her skin.

She picked up her phone and typed out a quick message to Wesley. "I'm busy right now. I'll get back to you when I can,"

His reply came almost instantly, "Okay,"

She unbuttoned the top two buttons of her blouse, hoping to shake the tight, suffocating feeling that had crept in. But it clung to her stubbornly and unrelentingly.

Emelie walked over to the mini-fridge, grabbed a cold bottle of water, and took a long sip. It didn't help. The frustration still lingered, gnawing at her.

She absentmindedly scratched her shoulder and noticed the bite mark that William had left was almost gone now. She sighed and returned to her desk.

She stared at her phone for a moment. Then, without thinking too hard about it, she dialed William's number. Williamn had been even busier than Emelie these past few days.

The Xanther Group's stock was in freefall, and it was dragging the Cloudex Corporation down with it. So, he had spent hours in tense board meetings, listening to grown men bicker like children. Their heated arguments filled the room.

William remained detached, offering little input, as if the fate of the once-mighty Cloudex barely concerned him. When his phone buzzed, he paused for just a moment before grabbing it. Without a second thought, he rose from his seat. He ignored the red-faced executives still going at it and stepped into the hallway.

The tension slipped from his shoulders as he answered the call

"Angel," he said, his voice low but unmistakably warm.

Emelie's voice was as cold and composed as ever. "You got 30 minutes. Shower and meet me at my office."

William caught the underlying meaning in her words and wasn't sure whether to be amused or offended. "So I'm just your beck-and-call plaything now?"

"If you're not interested, Mr. Middleton, I can always find someone else," she replied, her voice devoid of any emotion.Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.

It was an invitation delivered with cold indifference, and that only made his thoughts wander further. His fingers tightened on his tie, loosening it with a bit more force than necessary.

He chuckled under his breath. "No need for 30 minutes. I'm still at the Cloudex Corporation. I'll head straight to you. As for the shower, well, you've got one in your office, don't you? We could always share."

The call ended abruptly. That was her way of saying yes.

William left the conference room behind and headed downstairs, ready to be at her beck and call, just like how he had been treating her all those years ago.

Charles had given Emelie this office with genuine intent. It was situated in the heart of the Capebatt City's business district, only a street away from Cloudex Corporation.

William walked over as he was lost in thought. He passed a convenience store, paused, and went inside.

Initially, he had planned to buy a box of condoms but remembered Emelie's remark about her difficulty with pregnancy.

However, as he was staring at the array of colorful boxes, he was torn and ultimately he left the store empty- handed.

He chose not to buy them or take precautions, not for pleasure but for a different reason altogether. He had other plans in mind.

When William arrived on Emelie's office floor, he noticed all the staff members had already gone home.

He walked directly into her office.

Emelie was still at her desk, her eyes tired from staring at the computer screen for too long, and she was wearing glasses.

As he approached, William loosened his tie, gently removed her glasses, and scooped her into his arms.

Emelie didn't protest. Instead, she instinctively wrapped her legs around his waist, and their lips met with a sense of urgent intimacy.

William carried her into the adjoining room.

In the bathroom, the shower rained down, with wet clothes strewn across the floor.

Emelie didn't care to clean up; she only let him create chaos in that one space. So, they remained in the bathroom from start to finish. It might not have been the most convenient setting, but it was undeniably memorable. Afterward, Emelie changed into a set of spare clothes that she kept at the office and used a blow dryer to smooth her damp hair.

William, well aware that Emelie wouldn't prepare anything for him, had left his clothes outside the bathroom to keep them dry. At least now, he had something to wear.
