Chapter 836
Chapter 836 As His Wife
"One bad turn deserves another. By helping Emelie weaken Xanther, I'm basically cutting Beathan down to size. I wanted him to feel the sting of losing everything. Just like I did,"
Elias said as a hint of sharpness flashed in his eyes.
Ashley mentioned, "But Xanther is under William. With all the issues Xanther's facing, it's dragging down the Cloudex Corporation's stock as well."Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
"He won't mind," Elias replied without a second thought.
Ashley furrowed her brows, puzzled.
Elias gave a smile. When he noticed that she had eaten more than yesterday, his smile grew even wider.
It seemed that the day's meal hit Ashley on the spot. Maybe the storytelling helped her appetite too. That made Elias determined to work better tomorrow
He served her a spoonful of steamed eggs.
"Why aren't you eating?" Ashley couldn't resist asking.
"I'll take care of whatever's left after you're done," he said.
Elias had indeed changed quite a bit. The prestigious son of the Undvike family was now eating leftovers.
Ashley finished her meal and slipped her phone in her bag. She took out her lipstick to touch up, stood up and headed straight for the door.
Elias quickly turned around and asked, "Honey, where are you going?"
Ashley didn't answer.
Elias shoveled a couple of bites into his mouth and hurried after her. "Where are you going? I'll drive you. I'm your chauffeur now."
Once in the car, Ashley buckled her seatbelt and finally said, "Beathan's place."
Elias immediately turned to face her.
"You're going to see Beathan? No way. I'm not letting that happen," Elias disagreed bluntly.
He had made it clear before that he would never let Beathan see Ashley in that lifetime. Beathan wasn't worthy, and Elias didn't want Ashley to be tainted by Beathan's presence.
Ashley calmly corrected him. "You're the one seeing him."
"Why would I go see that scumbag?" he asked.
Ashley explained, "You're both in the same company now. Both of you are colleagues, even partners. Given what's happened, isn't it perfectly normal and reasonable for you to visit him?
"You're the executive director. You can go check in on him and ask about his future plans. It's totally normal."
Elias couldn't care less about being Beathan's partner. Besides, why should he worry about Beathan's life?
"And you? What's your role in all this?" he asked.
"I'll be accompanying you as your wife," Ashley said.
As his wife.
Elias was utterly reluctant to meet Beathan. But when he heard Ashley's words, he instinctively gripped the steering wheel and pressed his foot down on the gas pedal. Before he knew it, they were on their way there.
The word "wife" constantly played in Elias' mind, and he couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. Meanwhile, Ashley could barely even bother to speak to him.
Soon, they arrived at Beathan's place.
"Are you trying to get a read on him?" Elias asked upon recalling something.
"You could say that," Ashley said.
She could have visited him as the plaintiff's attorney since he was the defendant.
However, Ashley hadn't formally accepted Emelie's case yet. Ashley wasn't sure if she could overcome her psychological fears. She didn't want to jeopardize anything for Emelie.
And she definitely didn't want to show up as Beathan's ex-girlfriend. That was just too revolting. So, the best option was to go as Elias' wife.
Plus, it's more sincere for a couple to check in on a work partner.
Elias was still reluctant, even though it was for a good reason. Despite that, he rang the doorbell anyway.
As they waited for the door to open, Elias couldn't shake the discomfort. How could he let Beathan see his beloved wife's face?
He dashed back to the car, grabbed a disposable mask and oversized sunglasses. He came back and put them on Ashley, covering most of her face.
Ashley was left speechless. Was she the one with issues, or was it him?
