Chapter 420
Chapter 420
“Didn’t I tell you that appearances can be deceiving? She confessed to it herself on the news, and even if she hadn’t, the media already caught her red-handed. Those photos don’t leave room for her to deny it!” Sophia scoffed. “But you, you’re the gem I’ve been looking for. I’ve already spoken to my son, and as long as Emmett agrees, we’ll organize a grand wedding for you two. We’ll make sure everyone knows my grandchildren aren’t motherless!”
Leah nodded, her heart filled with joy, but she kept her excitement under wraps.
“Sophia, I think we should let things take their natural course. I don’t want to force Emmett to accept me; it might backfire!”
“My son…he’s quite the eccentric one. I can’t figure him out, but don’t worry. I’ll make sure to create more opportunities for you two to spend time together.” Sophia patted Leah’s hand. “Guaranteed to get him to welcome you with open arms.”
At these words, a blush crept up Leah’s cheeks.
“This makes it sound like I’m desperate to get hitched. If Emmett hears this, won’t he mock me?”
“What’s there to fear? My son is such a catch. Even if you come off a bit eager, or make the first move, it’s worth it!”
Leah nodded shyly, “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
After a night of passion, Emmett drifted off to sleep.
But Clara dared not close her eyes. She waited until his breathing evened out before slowly climbing out of bed, her hands meekly clutching at her barely-there nightgown.Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
She didn’t know how much longer she could endure this, feeling as though her dignity had been completely eroded.
Carefully, Clara eased herself out of the bed, wincing with soreness, careful not to disturb Emmett.
She had almost reached the door when she noticed Emmett had kicked off his blanket. Hesitating for a moment, she turned back to cover him with it before tiptoeing out of the room.
To avoid being discovered by Rose, Clara hid in a corner behind the servant’s quarters, waiting until Rose left before returning to her room to change.
Looking at her reflection, her hair was a mess, her body marked with love bites. Was there any trace of the old Clara left?
She couldn’t be sure if Emmett had been genuinely drunk, or…
But his savage invasion was something Clara didn’t dare to recall!
Suddenly, she heard someone calling her name from outside. Instinctively, Clara grabbed a scarf to wrap around her neck before venturing out.
It was Leah.
She had come to find her, just as Clara had expected!
Leah scrutinized Clara, feeling that something was off but she couldn’t put her finger on it.
“Where have you been?”
“I was… doing laundry.”
“No wonder you smell like Emmett. I thought you’d come from his room.”
“How… how could that be! I can only dream of being near him.”
Leah snorted, “That’s true! Emmett doesn’t want anything to do with you now, does he? So, if I get you away from the Melendez family, that would be a relief, right?”
Clara quickly nodded, “Yes, just let me leave!”
“Good, pack your things. Tomorrow evening, I’ll say I want to go shopping and need a maid to accompany me. You’ll disguise yourself as a maid and blend in with the other servants, and we’ll leave together.”
