we can be happy
Letta tried to avoid Marco, who was now following her and constantly blocking her path. Letta also didn’t want to fight in someone else’s house, especially when Abian was sick. This made Letta rush to her house, although in the midst of her steps, Marco once again prevented her. Fortunately, this wasn’t a crowded place, and there was only a vineyard illuminated by dim lights, allowing Letta to express whatever she was feeling to Marco.
“You hurt me by gripping me so tightly,” Letta said, making Marco finally try to loosen his grip, but not letting go even a bit. Marco was afraid that Letta would leave him again, and it would be difficult for Marco to find Letta again if she completely got away.
“Please, listen to me first,” Marco said, making Letta try to bite her lower lip as hard as she could. Letta didn’t know, perhaps she would hurt herself, but that was all she could do to express her anger right now.
“There’s nothing more we can talk about. I don’t want to listen to any explanations from you. It’s enough for me to know that you’ll never change. You’re still arrogant, you’re still selfish, and you’re still temperamental. I thought in these 2 years you could change your attitude, but it’s hard to change someone who has always been like that,” Letta said, making Marco shake his head.
“I really couldn’t control myself when that bastard tried to kiss you earlier,” Marco said, once again making Letta look away, trying to release Marco’s grip, which turned out to be more difficult than she thought.
“Enough, I told you, Abian is sick. He’s under the influence of medication. He probably doesn’t realize what he’s doing. I know, even though you know Abian’s feelings for me, he’s never been that disrespectful in the 2 years he’s been with me. He continues to help me and keeps me safe. And also, he’s not like the man who hurt me before,” Letta said, making Marco silent. Of course, Marco knew that sentence was directed at him, as the one who hurt Letta in the past.
“I know the feeling of guilt. I know you can’t forgive me that easily, but I’m taking the chance. I really can’t let go of you and Freya,” Marco said, making Letta unsure
Of what to do to make Marco step back and stay away from their lives. Was there no other way, or was it destined by God that she would remain in Marco’s clutches?
“Can’t you let us go so we can be happy? Can’t you just watch us from afar? Can’t you pretend not to recognize us? Isn’t it enough for you to do all that?” Letta asked, making Marco silent for a moment, before Marco reached for Letta’s hand and gently held both of them. Marco kissed the back of Letta’s hand, allowing Letta to feel the sincerity from Marco. However, the feeling of remorse and anger that now gripped her heart seemed not enough with the sweet gesture Marco was showing her.
Marco’s plea weighed heavily on Letta’s heart, making her feel as if her eyes were stinging from the tears she had been holding back.
“I’m not a good man, as you know. I can’t see you living freely without me. I know your feelings for me can’t change. I must still want you and love you, right? So, please, let’s live happily and start over. We can tell Freya how she was born out of the happiness and love we shared. I beg you,” Marco said, making Letta truly feel the weight of his words.
“I can’t do it, Marco,” Letta said, causing Marco to tighten his grip on both of her palms.
“What’s your reason for not accepting me back? Is my mistake that unforgivable?” Marco asked, trying again to make sure and listen to Letta’s definite reasons.
“I’m afraid of getting hurt, especially now that Freya is here. I don’t want Freya to feel the pain I once felt,” Letta said softly, causing Marco to shake his head.
“And I won’t let that happen. I swear by anything, I’ll promise in front of thousands of people, or maybe even swear in God’s name, that I’ll never hurt you. And if it happens, I’d rather die than let you go,” Marco said, making Letta look at him with a pleading gaze. Of course, Letta believed every word Marco said because the man in front of her would do anything he said, like he had intended that he would never be able to let go of her and Freya, and it would certainly happen. Then, the foolish vow he made to die would also come true if Letta agreed to it.NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
“You can have a better life than this. Out there, many women yearn for you. Wouldn’t it be great for you to start a new life with someone else?” Letta said, still trying to persuade Marco to understand their current situation.
“I’m sure you know best that I can’t start over with anyone else. That’s why I’ve been like this for the past 2 years. If perhaps I weren’t a man who had such strong love for you, I wouldn’t have suffered for these 2 years. I’d rather spend all my money on women who want to date me every night, but I can’t do it. Ireally can’t let you go, Letta, especially with Freya between us. That makes it even harder for me to live in misery for these 2 years,” Marco said, making Letta release Marco’s hand. Her knees even felt shaky, causing Letta to bow her body while hugging her knees. Letta really couldn’t hold back her tears any longer, causing Marco to finally bend his knees. Marco could see Letta’s shoulders trembling.
“I beg you, don’t cry. Is my request that painful?” Marco said, but Letta didn’t even answer, until Letta looked up with teary eyes. She wiped away the tears that flowed down her face.
“Give me time to think about everything,” Letta said, then got up from her seat, allowing Marco to see the different gaze in Letta’s eyes.
“How much longer do I have to wait? Have these years not been enough for me to wait for you?” Marco asked, making Letta shake her head.
“I can’t make a decision that quickly, Marco. I won’t just consider myself or you. I have to think about Freya’s situation, how we’re going to tell Freya about our lives. I don’t want the pain I felt to be experienced by Freya. Even though I haven’t fully forgiven you, I don’t want Freya to hate the man who would be her father, you know?” Letta said, leaving Marco silent. Of course, Marco understood what Letta meant, and eventually he nodded.
“Alright, I’ll wait for you, no matter how long you need to think about it. I’ll keep waiting for you. It seems like these years haven’t been enough for you, and I seem to have become an expert at that. So all I ask is that you never push me away and never disappear from my sight again because I really can’t handle going through it alone anymore,” Marco said, leaving Letta speechless. He let Letta turn away from him. Even though Marco wanted to embrace Letta, he would give her time to think, as long as Letta didn’t push him away and they didn’t disappear from his sight again. Marco could endure and wait, as long as they eventually returned to him.
Marco then chose to get into the car. He had no intention of leaving Letta’s yard. He would stay there overnight, even though Pedro had prepared everything for him at a small hotel on the outskirts of the small town. Still, Marco didn’t want to shift his gaze even a bit. He was afraid Letta might run away from him when he was not looking.
Marco fell silent as the raindrops began to patter on the car window. It grew heavier with time, causing Marco to squint as his view started to blur. Where the modest house stood would possibly crumble if Marco wished it. Marco wanted to ask Letta if she had been happy during these 2 years. Had she truly felt liberated from the shackles during the 2 years they were apart? Did Letta genuinely feel happy, even though Marco now knew he was selfish? But still, letting go of Letta would never happen in his life, unless Letta herself told him to disappear from her life.
Marco then tried to lean his seat back, even if just to sleep in the car. It wasn’t torture or anything for Marco; he would be more at peace than going toa hotel and being away from Letta and Freya. Perhaps, for now, Letta didn’t know that he had been staying in the car in her yard for several nights. But when Letta found out, she would definitely chase him away. Perhaps, he would move, but not to leave the vicinity of Letta’s house.
Marco then looked at his palm, specifically his ring finger that still bore his wedding ring. Marco didn’t know if Letta noticed it or not. But all this time, Marco had never removed the object that bound them. Even if it was removed, the stark contrast in the skin on his ring finger was evident. This made Marco grasp his finger tightly. He was confident that he could bring Letta back into his life.
