Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Alpha Alessio appeared just as transfixed when his lips also uttered the same word as me, calling me his mate.
His whole body had gone stock still, the wickedness, the evil smirk, the attitude and the ego, everything disappeared for a few moments as he stared at my face like he had never seen a girl before.
My wolf jumped in happiness in my chest. I felt like I had never even experienced a moment of this feeling before. It was different, the world suddenly felt like a brighter, more beautiful place that I wanted to live in with Alessio by my side.
My whole world changed within those few seconds.
Alpha Alessio’s coldness and frivolousness had faded, a warmth had taken over his face. His hand suddenly lifted up in the air to touch the side of my face. I closed my eyes, leaning close to his touch without even realising. As soon as his fingers touched my skin, I felt like my skin was on fire, every single hair on my body stood on end. I always thought mom’s description of mate bond is an exaggeration. But Oh My Moon Goddess, it isn’t.
His scent had surrounded my whole body, like I was in a valley of flowers and he was the fresh rain that had showered over the soil. His smell surrounded me, making me feel safe and loved and all the thousands of emotions that I had never experienced before in my whole life.
I felt warmth spread through my body, from the very tips of my fingers and toes, to the very core of my being. I felt safe, for the first time in my life. I felt protected, like a little tiny ball of flames, and he was the protective wall of a giant who was standing in front of me. I felt loved like I was the most beautiful person in the world.
“You are mates? Mia is your mate?!” someone shouted from behind, breaking us out of the trance and bringing us back to reality, reminding us that we were not the only ones standing here.
Alpha Alessio lowered his hand immediately but his gaze did not move away from my face, “Yes. She is my mate.”
“Who are you?” he whispered to me, like I’m the only one that mattered in the world.
I could feel the heat on my face, my cheeks burning up. I bit my lip, my wolf still howling in absolute joy. It was like he had kissed the sun, and I was the moon, drawn to his light.
“She can not be your mate,” Liam murmured, his voice shaking in shock, trying to hold my hand.
It was then Alpha Alessio looked at Liam and noticed our adjoining hands. His jaw tightened at the sight visibly, his face twisted in anger. His eyes were glowing yellow, like two fire torches that were burning with rage.
It was so much more terrifying than his coldness. It was like a wild animal that I did not know how to tame.
“Leave her hand,” he growled, showing his teeth in a threatening manner to Liam, “you’re not allowed to touch my mate.”
Liam’s hold tightened around my fingers instead of loosening. I turned my eyes to see Liam whose face had turned white as chalk.
“Liam,” I whispered, “Let go of me”. I was reminded of what Liam said earlier about killing my mate, and subtly shifted my place between Liam and Alessio. I will protect my mate at all costs.
“We are not going to accept Mia as our Luna!” Olivia shouted from behind in her high-pitched voice. She had obviously gotten over the shock by now and was screaming at the top of her lungs with an irritated, angry growl, “a filthy little Omega who first killed our alpha. Seduced our beta. And now you, Alpha Alessio?”
“Don’t interrupt their communi-” a warrior tried to stop Olivia, but she continued to screech with her whole face red and her eyes burning in jealousy. I knew she was furious that I had turned out to be Alessio’s mate while she had always wanted to be the next Luna at any cost.
The look on her face when she saw Alpha Alessio for the first time was an unforgettable one, after all. She had clasped her hands together in happiness and anticipation, I had seen the way her eyes had glimmered as plans of winning over the new powerful male of our pack.
When she saw her dreams crumbling right in front of her eyes, she tried to grasp the last ends of the threads to keep the male to herself.
“What kind of black magic is this slut using? Our whole pack has been destroyed because of her!” Olivia screamed, pointing at me with her trembling, red finger,
“She is nothing but a power-hungry whore! She seduced Beta Liam and made him kill our alpha. Now when she saw the Luna title slipping out of her hands, she instantly switched her attention to you, Alpha Alessio. Are you seriously going to mate with such a girl?”
I could feel all the eyes on me, burning a hole in my body. I clenched my hands into fists, trying to stop them from trembling. I felt my face burning up, my heart was pounding as if it was going to jump out of my chest.
I had not done anything… I had not done anything but protect myself and the pack. Someone needed to slew that Tyrant. I was ready to be called such names and disgraces. But to be called out in front of my mate is excruciating.
Suddenly Olivia was grabbed by the Beta who had arrived with Alpha Alessio. He dragged her away to somewhere in the crowd with his hand covering her screeching mouth.
The silence around us was sickening. I knew my whole face was red even though I had done nothing wrong. But the way things have been revealed in front of my mate left me with a feeling worse than anyone would have ever felt in their whole life. I felt like the air around us was thick, like it was being trapped and I was the one who was inside it.
I managed to gather my senses, my strength, and my pride to lift up my eyes and stare up at Alpha Alessio again. I opened my lips to explain, but he suddenly took one step back,
“Keep it quiet,” he growled, a low threatening sound that made the wolf inside me jump with fear.
His eyes stared into mine, the softness, the warmth, and the amusement all gone from his face. He looked like a completely different person, a very dangerous and scary person. I suddenly felt very unsafe. NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
“Is all of what she just said true?” he asked in a calm voice that hid the thunder burning behind his words.
I was scared. Absolutely terrified. I know I’m not the innocent girl that werewolves expect their mate to be.
“There is more to everything than what you have been informed of.” I tried to explain, sweat covering my forehead, “I can expla-”
He took my hand and caressed it most gently, “These hands are tainted with Alpha blood,” his words are like daggers to my heart.
I jumped back in fear, my body shaking with the shock of his coldness suddenly appearing and disappearing. I had never experienced anything like this before in my whole life. I was completely baffled.
“Yes. I killed the alpha.” I said in a shaking voice, trembling visibly, “Do what you want. At least I’m not a hypocrite.”
“We can fix that,” he muttered, his face devoid of emotions and his hands swiping his hair back that was falling on his forehead. His nostrils flared, his lips trembling because of the fury that was running inside him, “a girl like you can not be my mate.”
My heart broke into millions of pieces within that one second that it took for him to say those words. None of us had control over who turned out to be our fated mates. The disgust was clear on his face for me. He loathed me.
“I, Alpha Alessio Silverine, Reject you and this mate bond.” He announced mercilessly.
I felt myself falling to the floor, my wolf howling in pain and sadness, the mate bond was supposed to bring happiness and contentment, but it had only brought me pain and misery. I was rejected, by the one person that I would have trusted the most in this world, the one person who was supposed to protect me and take care of me and love me.
I wanted to protest, to tell him that what he just did was a mistake, but no words would come out of my mouth. I couldn’t even feel my body anymore. All I could feel was the wolf inside me, howling with pain and sadness. All my hopes, all my dreams, all my future were just shattered into pieces, leaving me with nothing but a feeling of emptiness.
The Alpha turned around and started walking away from me. I wanted to run after him, to throw myself on him and beg him to change his mind, to forgive me for the mistake I had made. I wanted to tell him that I was not the kind of girl he thought I was, that I was not the kind of girl that would do something like that.
But no one had ever stayed by my side. No one except Liam after my parent’s death had ever made me feel like I was not a burden on this world. How can I expect an unknown stranger to accept me for
his whole life?
The anguish inside me became unbearable. My wolf was suffering, hurting but it could not come out in front of everyone.
I turned around and ran towards the jungle blindly. Halfway through the woods, I changed into my wolf, finally giving it the power to endure the pain that I could no longer go through.
