Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now

Chapter 908

Chapter 908:

“Laney?” Elissa’s hand suddenly felt empty, and her heart raced. She raised her hand, groping the air. “Where are you? Are you alright?”

Her hand was soon caught by another. Warm, large, with distinctively long fingers and pronounced joints. It was a man’s hand!

“Ah!” Startled, Elissa instinctively tried to withdraw her hand.

But he firmly held on and reassured her. “It’s okay; it’s me.”

Recognizing the voice as that of her neighbor—the same man who had saved her life—Elissa’s tension eased, though she was puzzled about why he was holding her hand.

“Here.” Ernest placed the kite spool in her hand. “Hold this. Have you ever flown a kite?”

“Yes.” Elissa nodded, her voice tinged with hesitation. “But I can no longer see.”

“It’s okay,” Ernest assured her gently. “There’s no one else around, and there’s plenty of space. You can try running a bit. I’ll be right beside you, so don’t worry about getting hurt.”

“Okay.” Elissa bit her lip, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. “I’ll give it a try then.”

She thought to herself that the worst outcome would be a tumble, which she could totally handle.

Having lived without sight for so long, she yearned to walk—and run—freely.

“Alright.” Ernest’s lips curved slightly. “Run.”

“Okay!”

Holding the spool, Elissa began with cautious steps, Ernest guiding her.

“This way, with the wind!”

“Got it!” Elissa responded, picking up speed as she pulled the line.

The cold, dry wind brushed against her face, but she didn’t feel a shiver. Instead, a wave of exhilaration washed over her, and her face lit up with a beaming smile.

At the edge of the lawn, Eric watched, his expression turning colder.

He kept quiet, and soon Ernest spotted him too.

Ernest signaled to the caregiver, who hastened over.

“Stay with her,” he instructed.

“Alright.”

Ernest turned and walked towards Eric.

Elissa slowed down and turned towards the caregiver. “Did he leave?”

“Yes, he had something to attend to.”

Elissa’s brow creased slightly. “Laney, who is that man, really?”

“Well…” The caregiver chuckled nervously, shaking her head. “I’m not sure either, just that he’s our neighbor.”

In the room, Eric was sprawled lazily on the couch, eyeing the surroundings with disdain. “This is where you live these days?”

Ernest frowned. “Get to the point.”

“Fine!” Eric sat up and fixed his gaze on Ernest. “Then tell me, what’s going on between you and Elissa?”

Ernest lived next to her, flew kites with her, and the way he had just looked at her—it was unmistakable, the look of a man in love!
