Chapter 890
Chapter 890:
True to form, Eric’s smile was mild but persistent, gently urging her, “Are you mad? Upset that I showed up? Do you remember what day today is?”
Hadley, seething with irritation, couldn’t remember the significance of the date.
“You’ve really forgotten,” Eric teased, gently tapping her forehead. “It’s time for your doctor’s appointment. Remember?” The realization cooled Hadley’s frustration somewhat.
With a gentle grip on her hand, Eric muttered, “Am I to think you’re negligent with your own affairs, or is it just memory lapses?”
Laughing lightly, he added, “Thankfully, Joy inherited her intelligence from her father.”
Hadley responded with a glare full of bitterness.
“My apologies,” realizing his mistake, Eric quickly amended. “She’s intelligent and beautiful, just like you. Let’s not delay the doctor any longer. He tends to be a little impatient.”
In Srixby, Eric’s authority was rarely questioned. However, the doctor was one of the few who wasn’t afraid to challenge him.
Acknowledging this, Hadley silently got into the car with him.
Her silence persisted even at the doctor’s office.
Observing her strained expression, the doctor rebuked Eric. “Mr. Flynn, her recovery will be compromised if she remains distressed. I would recommend halting the treatment if this continues; a poor mood only undermines the effectiveness of any medical intervention.”
Eric found himself at a loss for words. He was well aware of the doctor’s short fuse!
“Please, take a moment to rest before we continue,” the doctor said as he guided Hadley to the treatment room, leaving Eric to gather the prescribed medications outside.

Hadley still wore the same stern expression when she reappeared. Noticing her discomfort, Eric bent slightly to ask in a low voice, “How did the treatment go? Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?” After a pause, the tension in Hadley seemed to dissolve a bit. She shook her head slightly and said, “It was bearable.”
Eric chuckled gently. “Let’s head out.”
As they drove home, Eric said, “How about we grab dinner together? It’s best to eat something light with your medication.”
In a sudden shift, Hadley turned to face him with a serious gaze. She got straight to the point, asking, “What’s your endgame, Eric? Can we skip the pretenses?”
Eric’s hands tightened on the steering wheel, yet he kept his smile, asking innocently, “What do you mean?”
A slight, cold laugh escaped Hadley. “All these moves—injecting funds, mingling with the crew, lavish meals, whisking me away—do these ring any bells?”
“So that’s your concern?” Eric’s smile gradually disappeared as he turned serious. He probed further, “And what do you suspect my intentions are?”
“To win me over,” Hadley declared without hesitation. “Am I right?”
“Absolutely!”
Her query had been swift, and his response even swifter, resembling a quick-paced exchange in a game of rapid-fire questions.
Caught off guard, Hadley paused, but then her lips curved into a smile. “The way you care for Joy, it’s evident. There’s an inherent connection. You adored her even before knowing she was yours. However…” She pressed on, “You shouldn’t waste your time on me just for Joy’s benefit.”
