Chapter 884
Chapter 884:
“Alright,” Hadley said with a polite nod.
“Thank you,” Eric added sincerely as they said goodbye to the doctor.noveldrama
When they reached Millland Road, Hadley gestured. “Just stop here. No need to drive in.”
Eric pulled over and checked the time. It was just after three—Joy should be at the park around now.
“Going to meet Joy at the park?” he asked.
Hadley nodded, opening the door. “Bye.”
Without another glance, she stepped out and walked away, completely indifferent.
Eric watched her retreating figure, his grip tightening on the steering wheel.
Was this how things were going to be now? He was Joy’s father, and yet even spending time with his daughter felt like a privilege he had to earn.
It wasn’t just about Joy. He missed being with both of them—having that warmth, that sense of family.
He knew it was selfish and more than a little shameless. But he’d never claimed to be selfless or noble.
At the park, Joy played with her friends until nearly five. She would’ve stayed longer if the sky hadn’t started to darken.
“Time to go home,” Hadley said, picking her up. “Melba made something delicious for dinner.”
Joy pouted, reluctant to leave—until she heard the promise of delicious food. Her eyes lit up. “Yummy food!”
A familiar voice called out. Joy looked up to see Eric walking toward them, smiling warmly.
“Mr. Flynn!” she exclaimed with delight, squirming in Hadley’s arms. “Mommy, look! It’s Mr. Flynn!”

Hadley’s expression darkened. What was Eric doing here again?
Joy reached out her arms, wanting Eric to hold her. “Carry me!”
Hadley hesitated, but then reluctantly let go.
Eric lifted Joy into his arms, heart swelling at how small and sweet she was.
She tried to introduce him proudly, “Mommy! This is Mr. Flynn!”
Eric smiled and gently stroked her hair. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. I’ll explain.”
He turned to Hadley and said carefully, “Hi, I’m Eric Flynn.”
Hadley gave a tight, sarcastic smile. So this was his game now—pretend to be a stranger?
Since she refused to let him claim Joy outright, was he playing along to get closer?
At least he hadn’t directly claimed Joy as his daughter.
Still, for Joy’s sake, she played along. “Nice to meet you. I’m Hadley.”
“Joy,” she called, reaching out, “time to go. Dinner’s waiting.”
But Joy clung to Eric. “Mr. Flynn!”
Eric smiled down at her. “Are you hungry?”
Joy nodded eagerly. “Yes! And I miss you, Mr. Flynn!”
“I missed you too,” he said softly, his heart aching. “Want to go out and eat something yummy?”
“Yes!” Joy beamed, but then turned to Hadley. “Mommy, can I go?”
