Chapter 262
Early the next morning, Evelyn tidied up briefly and headed straight to the hospital.
She would be swamped today. In the morning, she had chemotherapy and had to get her divorce certificate. In the afternoon, she had arranged to meet with Jason, who would bring along his friend, who was a doctor.
Evelyn had scheduled her first round of chemotherapy for 8:30 a.m. Before that, she went to see her attending physician, as she needed to reconfirm the surgical treatment plan.
When the doctor saw Evelyn, she couldn't help but frown, sighing as she looked over Evelyn's personal records.
"You've just turned 25... You're way too young. The uterus is extremely important to a woman. I really hope you'll reconsider."
She truly couldn't bear the thought of Evelyn having hers removed.
Evelyn was so young. She was most likely unmarried and without children, which made it such a loss.
Evelyn understood the doctor's compassion and smiled gently. "It's alright. I've thought it through."
The doctor asked again, "Are you married?"
Looking away, Evelyn rubbed her cold fingers slightly before saying with a faint smile, "I'm getting divorced today."
The doctor was stunned. She was clearly surprised, then a look of indescribable pity replaced it.
Divorce and a hysterectomy... It probably wasn't just a coincidence. It was most likely because of the illness. She couldn't have children anymore, so her husband wanted out?
The doctor secretly sighed, lamenting human nature.
Then, she solemnly went over the follow-up treatment details with Evelyn. She also explained whether a full hysterectomy after three rounds of chemo could lead to a complete recovery, which still remained unknown.
At present, the surgery had only a 40% success rate.
Evelyn accepted all of it calmly and asked, "Will the chemo cause hair loss?"
This was a real concern. If the hair loss was too obvious, it would be hard to keep things hidden.
The doctor shook her head and offered reassurance. "Not necessarily. It depends on the medication used, so don't worry."
Only then did Evelyn feel at ease. "Then, please write out the treatment plan for me."
The doctor prepared a detailed surgical plan for her. Evelyn skimmed through it— three rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a total hysterectomy two months later. She put the plan and all the related documents into her bag before making her way to the oncology department. Since it was still early, she was the first one to arrive.
Evelyn psyched herself up and took several deep breaths. Then, she walked in resolutely.
The entire process took around 20 minutes.
The doctor had informed her that the first two chemo sessions would be relatively mild, and the side effects wouldn't be particularly obvious.
Even so, Evelyn felt utterly drained. She couldn't help but vomit a few times. Her stomach had been emptied to the point that only bile remained.
Even the nurse couldn't bear to watch and asked softly, "Do you have family accompanying you?"
Evelyn wiped the cold sweat from her forehead. She was already immune to this question. "It's alright."
She allowed herself only 20 minutes to recover. She then freshened up her makeup and headed straight for the courthouse.
By the time she arrived at the intersection, it was exactly 9:50 a.m.
As soon as she did so, she spotted a black Maybach parked across the street in the commercial lot. The license plate was unmistakable—it was Lucas' car.
He was already here this early?
Evelyn quickly figured it out. Today was the day their marriage could finally be dissolved. Lucas would naturally be more than eager.noveldrama
Just as she was about to look away, she noticed Michael walking over from a distance.
He was carrying a coffee brand's paper bag. Without noticing Evelyn, he hurried toward the backseat and opened the door.
Right after that, Evelyn saw a delicate, slender hand reach out and take the coffee.
Tiffany was in Lucas' car...
Even on the day they were finalizing their divorce, Lucas still brought Tiffany along. Was it because she would only feel at ease after witnessing the process herself?
Evelyn understood Lucas' intentions, so she shook her head mockingly.
...
Clearing her thoughts, she entered the building alone. There weren't many people at the courthouse that day, making the large lobby feel especially quiet and empty.
Evelyn spotted Lucas sitting in the front row, watching the announcements on the big screen. A man in a sharp suit sat beside him. It was Morgan, Mason's cousin, who was a lawyer.
After a few seconds of confusion, Evelyn walked over.
Lucas saw her. He still didn't look well. His arm was tightly bandaged, and his face looked even paler.
"Sit," Lucas instructed, turning his gaze to Evelyn.
However, when his eyes landed on her slightly sickly face, he paused briefly, then asked, "Are you unwell?"
What do you think?
