Chase and Susie quickly received word from the butler. When she heard that Victor was coming, Susie’s face went pale. Still, she ultimately decided to stay.

“We abandoned Jonathan back then. We can’t leave him to face this alone.”

Susie’s voice was quiet. “If I’d been braver back then, maybe things wouldn’t have turned out like this.”

More importantly, she had dragged Wendy into it as well.

Wendy had always been stronger than her. No matter how cruelly Victor tortured her, she never gave in. Victor had even said more than once that Wendy was a brave woman–he liked strong people. That was the only reason he hadn’t killed her.

Despite being implicated because of Susie, Wendy had never once complained. She had always helped and protected her.

“You leave. I’ll stay,” Chase suggested. He knew exactly how terrified Susie was of Victor.

Victor hadn’t just left scars on her body–he had left a far deeper wound in her heart..

Chase hadn’t protected her back then. He couldn’t let her face this again.

“No, I’m not leaving.”

Susie shook her head fiercely. “Let me stay. I can handle it.”

Seeing how determined she was, Chase didn’t try to persuade her again. The next day, he went to the old estate alone.

“What’s your plan?”

He looked at Jonathan. “Everything White did–he can deny it all. If you’re planning to use that against him, it won’t work.”

“I’m not trying to use White’s mess against him. I just want to lure him out of his stronghold.”

Jonathan met Chase’s eyes. “To you, he looks like a lion. But even lions have weaknesses.”

Victor’s behavior over the years had already made many in the family dissatisfied. Who didn’t have their own private agenda?

Faced with a madman of a patriarch or someone who could actually lead the family into the future, the Victor family knew exactly where they stood.

That was the problem with these old–fashioned clans.

“You’re saying… if he comes here, they’ll use the opportunity to strip him of his power?”

Chase’s breathing grew rapid. He hadn’t expected such a strategy.

“How confident are you?” he couldn’t help but ask.

“Fifty–fifty.” Jonathan was frank–everyone shared the same enemy.

“Fifty–fifty?” Chase frowned. Clearly, that didn’t sound like enough.

But then again, considering how little time they’d had, a fifty percent chance was already quite impressive.

With that thought, he pulled himself together. “Do you need me to do anything?”

“No.” Jonathan’s tone was cool–he clearly didn’t intend to involve him.

Chase felt a bit bitter, but still said, “We’re not going anywhere. We’ll stay in Capital City. If anything. comes up, you can talk to us.”

They truly wanted to help. But he knew Jonathan might not appreciate it.

Jonathan had always been stubborn–Chase knew that better than anyone. noveldrama

“Keep an eye on Jose,” Jonathan said at last.

Jose was reckless. If Victor found out who his mother was, things could get dangerous for him.

“I will,” Chase replied solemnly.

Before he left, he gave one final reminder. “The situation’s unstable. Be careful.”

Jonathan was plotting against Victor, but who was to say Victor wasn’t plotting against him, too?

Just the arrest of White alone had already revealed a lot.

The way White was being handled had already split the country into two camps–clear evidence of an ongoing power struggle.

The Wynn family wasn’t taking sides, but both factions were eager to draw them in–or eliminate them altogether.

Balancing that tension was becoming more important than ever.

Elsewhere, White was locked up, but he hadn’t really suffered.

His background made things complicated. Even with all the evidence stacked against him, all Stone and the others could do was keep him detained. Anything more was off–limits.

That day, after meeting with his lawyer, White’s mood took a sudden downturn.

Stone found it strange. The lawyer had just told him that his father would be arriving soon.

Anyone else would’ve been thrilled to hear their dad was coming to rescue them. But not Victor. He wasn’t happy at all–he looked uneasy.

Was he worried about being discarded?

Stone thought for a moment. That might be the weak spot he’d been looking for.

So that day, he brought White in for questioning.

“Your father’s almost here. We won’t be able to keep you locked up much longer,” Stone began.

As soon as the words left his mouth, he saw fear flash through White’s eyes.

Stone knew right then–he had guessed correctly.
