Chapter 537 A Complete Breakdown
Yvette continued laughing, but her expression was full of mockery, and her tone was ice cold. The way she glared at Charles carried an icy chill.
Beneath those eyes was a raging hatred, like a tidal wave, ready to crash down and destroy everything.
"For your so-called love and Vivian's reputation, you chose to turn a blind eye and deceive yourself. Well, I won't let you have it easy. You have to atone for your sins. Do you understand?"
"I don't believe it. I don't!" Charles wept bitterly. "I don't believe Vivian would do this to me.
"What did that man have? He wasn't as good-looking as me, not as fit as me, not as wealthy as me. In what way was he better than me? Why would Vivian do such things for him? How could she?"
Charles' lifelong love and devotion toward her, shattered in a moment after watching the video and pictures on the USB drive. The pain was unbearable, and he could barely hold himself together.
He loved Vivian dearly, never taking another wife after her death. He had poured his heart into raising their two children, never missing a single important moment in Cassie and Wesley's lives, no matter how busy or exhausted he was.
He adored Cassie to the core specifically. Even when she made mistakes, he would clean up the mess for her.
But now, he found out that Vivian didn't love him, and Cassie wasn't even his biological daughter. And worst of all, he had seen with his own eyes, the irrefutable proof of Vivian in bed with another man.
Charles' world collapsed at that moment. He suffered a complete breakdown.
"Why couldn't you just lie to me forever? I would've rather been lied to and never knowing the truth." Charles sobbed uncontrollably. "Yvette, you shouldn't have appeared. You shouldn't have come back. Why didn't you die in the fire? Everything would've been fine!"
"Charles, listen to yourself. Do you even realize what you're saying?" Yvette couldn't help but chuckle mockingly.
She added, "Because of the lies Vivian told you, you'd actually say something like that. I consider myself lucky to be alive. I'm lucky to be able to show these proofs to you and see you suffer like this.
"To you, Vivian was pure and flawless. So tell me, how does it feel to see your wife turn into nothing but a whore?"
"Shut up! Shut up! Shut your mouth!" Charles roared angrily. "I hate you, Yvette! I hate you!"
Suddenly, Yvette slapped Charles across the face. "Charles, what right do you have to hate me? The Jenkins family lost so many lives in such a miserable way, but you and Vivian lived a good life with your children.
"For years, I swallowed my pride and endured countless humiliations and hardships, just to ensure this revenge succeeds. If I hadn't been diagnosed with cancer, I would've continued watching from afar.
"I wanted to watch how you and Vivian's children would tear each other apart. Unfortunately, I won't get to see that."
Suddenly, Yvette coughed up a mouthful of blood. Every bone in her body ached. Every day, she had to rely on heavy doses of painkillers just to get through the day.
"Charles, I'm satisfied with how things have turned out." Yvette's mouth was covered in blood.
"You lived a lifetime of happiness, but now that you're at the end, you finally get to experience that agonizing pain. That's enough for me.
"As for the Walkers, what I did couldn't be undone. They can't do anything about me. I'm dying anyway. I just want them to know that I fear nothing."
"Yvette, you're truly vicious and evil." Charles lay crumpled on the ground, his body curled up, sobbing like a child.
"Evil? So be it. I'm nothing compared to Vivian." Yvette wiped the blood from the corner of her lips. "Charles, if you must hate someone, hate Vivian.
"She took the entire Jenkins family down with her for her love. She also used your love toward her, making you raise another man's child.
"If you want to talk about being evil, none of us come close to her. She destroyed the Jenkins family, and I destroyed her children. That's only fair."
As Yvette spoke, she spat out another mouthful of blood. Once she was done, she casually took out a tissue and wiped her lips.
She glanced at the bloodstained tissue, then tossed it into the trash. Then, she shouted, "Charlene!"
"Grandma, I'm here." Charlene rushed in.
"Let's go," Yvette said as she extended her hand.
Charlene quickly held her and asked, "Grandma, where are we going?"
"Home."
"Okay"
"You're not leaving." Marcus stepped out from the shadows, blocking the path in front of Yvette and Charlene. "Mrs. Jenkins Senior, you've thrown the Holden family into chaos, causing so much pain to myo Grandpa in his old age. Do you think you can just leave like that?" noveldrama
"If that's the case, I'll just stay then." Yvette smirked, taking a seat fearlessly. "Marcus, you can't threaten me. It's fine by me. I have a terminal illness anyway. I don't have much time left. I might as well spend my remaining days enjoying my time here at Holden Residence."
"Marcus, let her go." Charles, still curled up on the floor, suddenly spoke. He was still sobbing, but his tone was firm. "Let her go. From now on, don't cause her anymore trouble."
"But Grandpa-"
"Just listen to me," Charles cut him off. "Marcus, just do as I say."
Marcus stepped aside. Yvette chuckled and walked right out of Holden Residence with Charlene holding her.
"Grandpa..." Marcus stepped forward and lifted Charles from the ground.
Charles' face was soaked in his tears, his eyes bloodshot. He reached out and grabbed Marcus' hand.
With trembling lips, he said, "Marcus, back at Nattie's welcome party, I had given her a gift. Go take it back and destroy it."
"Yes, Grandpa."
"Grandpa Charles, that gift is valuable. Instead of destroying it, why don't we sell it?" Natalie suggested as she stepped forward.
She had already known what that gift meant. But now, that gift had turned into a dagger, stabbing straight into Charles' heart.
To Charles, that gift was tainted and no longer suitable for Natalie.
"Nattie, I'm sorry. I really didn't know." Charles' voice trembled. He reached out his hand, and Natalie quickly grabbed it.
Charles held both Natalie's and Marcus' hands together.
"Only now do I realize that I've failed as a person in this life. Nattie, I've always cherished you. But I have one last request."
"Go on, Grandpa Charles."
Charles' voice choked up. "I hope that you won't hold Marcus accountable for what his grandmother and Cassie did.
"I raised him myself. Just like me, he's a fool for love. If you think the Holden family is a mess, let Marcus live with the Walkers.
"It's all my fault. I should've seen the truth earlier, but I didn't. I missed the opportunity to investigate the truth.
"Still, Marcus is innocent. So is his mother. Nattie, I'm begging you. I hope you
and your family will take care of Marcus and love him too."
Natalie looked at Marcus, and his eyes were already red-rimmed.
After a moment of thought, she answered, "Grandpa Charles, don't say anything else. I'll take you to The Herbalist's Sanctuary."
What do you think?
