Chapter 87
Chapter 87
Derek noticed a trace of determination in Meredith's eyes, and he felt a sense of unease becoming
stronger.
But Meredith did not stop and she left quickly.
Derek walked into the study. Mr. Xavier pointed to the board. "Come on, continue playing."
Derek frowned. "Grandpa, what did she just say to you?"
Mr. Xavier looked at Derek and shook his head. "She had asked to talk to me alone. If I tell you what
she said, I'll become an unreliable old man. Just play."
Derek saw that the Old Master clearly did not want to say it, and he could not ask any more questions,
so he could only suppress his emotions and continue playing chess.
However, this time, he was far from as calm as before. In a short while, the advantage he had gained in
the early stage of the chess game was lost. Soon, the Old Master caught his weakness and forced him
to a dead end.
"Derek, living is like playing chess. Every step is very important. You must be careful."
The Old Master won the game without a doubt. He spoke to Derek earnestly when he saw that Derek's
mind was obviously not on the game.
Derek nodded and then he felt that this meant something else. However, the Old Master said that he
was tired and wanted to go back to rest. Therefore, Derek didn't ask anything after all.
The next morning, Meredith said she was unwell, so she didn't go to work.
Derek looked at the empty passenger seat and was inexplicably upset.
How long had she been suffering from gastroenteritis? Why hadn't she recovered yet?
Was the doctor she had seen a quack? Thinking about it, Derek called the family doctor and asked him
to come over tonight to check on Meredith.
The Old Master quickly asked someone to get the divorce certificate done. He worried that a long delay
may cause new troubles, so he handled it very efficiently.
However, the Xaviers certainly didn't intend to give her the divorce certificate. They were worried that
she would make a fuss about it.
Meredith naturally did not care. When she left, she only brought a small suitcase with her, which
contained a few clothes and shoes that she had brought out when she left the prison. She did not take
away the rest of her things.
Mr. Xavier wrote her a check. The number on it was extremely tempting, but Meredith refused to take it.
"I'm lucky to be able to get out of prison. I don't need the money. Grandpa Xavier, I just hope you will
remember your promise to me."
Mr. Xavier nodded. "Don't worry. That matter is over, and no one will pursue it anymore. My words still
count."
Meredith nodded and left.
Meredith's eyes darkened at the thought of that man. Presumably, they would not even have a chance
to meet in the future.
These days she had been living in the Xaviers as Derek's wife and it was like a dream to her.
Now that she had woken up, it was time for her to start her new life.

In the evening, Derek left work.
At dinner time, Meredith still didn't show up. Derek did not suspect anything. After all, she once said
that her stomach was uncomfortable and that she had not eaten with anyone else for a long time.
When Derek returned to his bedroom after dinner, he realized something was wrong.
Some of Meredith's clothes that were originally hanging in his closet were gone now, and the bedding
that she used to sleep on the floor was also gone.
Everything seemed to have returned to the beginning when Meredith didn't exist.
Derek seemed to have thought of something. He strode out and went straight to Meredith's room. He
opened the door. It was empty. There was no one in it. He couldn't even tell that someone had lived
there after the room was cleaned.
Where did Meredith go?
Derek suddenly understood what she meant by that look yesterday. She had already determined to
leave the Xaviers yesterday.
Derek went straight to the Old Master's room without hesitation. The Old Master was watering the
flowers. When he saw Derek, he shook his head.
"She left. This is your divorce certificate. Don't worry, I'll keep it well. No one will ever know that you
had such a relationship with her."
Derek stared at the dark red certificate and opened it. It had his and Meredith's names written on it, but
the words changed from "agree to get married" to "agree to divorce".
"Why didn't you tell me?"
Derek looked at the certificate and felt the urge to tear it up.
Who gave Meredith the right to divorce him unilaterally? She wanted to get rid of him so badly?
"I was the one who arranged your marriage, so it's reasonable for me to end it now."
The Old Master looked at Derek's gloomy face. In fact, he had long noticed the undercurrent of
affection between Derek and Meredith, but he did not point it out.
He thought that Derek would never have feelings for a female prisoner who had driven into him before,
but the truth was not the case. He saw slight changes in Derek's attitude towards Meredith, so he was
really afraid that the woman he insisted on bringing back would affect his heir he had trained for many
years.
Since then, he had been thinking about how to solve the problem perfectly.
Now, everything was over. Returning to the beginning would be the best choice for everyone.
Derek understood what he meant and did not speak again.
"Now that I'm old, I can't be in charge of so many things. However, you can be with your ex-girlfriend,
or any girl from a prestigious family or a humble family. But you can't be with Meredith."
"A woman like her can't be your wife. She'll be your vulnerability that other people will attack."
After the Old Master finished speaking, Derek fell silent.
He certainly understood that his grandfather had meddled in this matter for the sake of the Xaviers and
Derek himself, but this did not reduce his anger. Instead, he felt a little helpless.
"Don't meet her anymore. I'm sure you'll soon forget about this person."
Derek retreated from the room silently.
Back in his room, Derek smashed everything in front of him.
He was in no mood for anything but destruction. He wanted to destroy the woman who dared to leave
without saying goodbye in particular.
Why could she leave so easily after fooling him?
He swept the books on the desk to the floor angrily. Suddenly, he saw a card with Meredith's
handwriting on it. "You gave me this card. I didn't use it. Now I give it back to you."
It was the unlimited credit card he gave her in the beginning. She didn't even take it with her.
Derek tore the card and threw it into the trash can.
He took out his phone and called Asher and Jameson. "Come out. Let's get together. It's my treat."
They were shocked. Derek rarely came out to hang out with them. Even if they formed a gathering and
invited him, he would reject them nine out of ten times.
He did this once in a blue moon.
Derek was indeed not a person who enjoyed gatherings. He thought that this kind of entertainment was
boring and time-consuming. But now, he just wanted to drink and use alcohol to reduce his agitation.
Otherwise, he would have to search everywhere to find the damn woman, and then make her live a
miserable life.
