The Divorced Heiress Is Entering a New Marriage

Chapter 158

Chapter 0158

Logan’s grip tightened on the reports he held, crumpling them. My blush only deepened, and I glanced down, trying to hide it.

Was he angry that I had a date? “It’s after work,” I said. I wasn’t slacking off during work hours or anything I didn’t know why else he would be angry.

“With anyone I know?” he asked, voice tight.

“Oh.. Well, yeah,” I said. I never should have brought this up. The last thing I wanted to do was drive a bigger wedge between Dylan and Logan. It wasn’t lost on me that Dylan didn’t come around for lunches “with Logan anymore.

Ever since Dylan found out about Logan and my kisses and near kisses, their friendship had taken a turn for the worse.

But Logan had since made his feelings for me clearer. IE, he had none. Everything that happened between us was a mistake. Shouldn’t he be happy that I was moving forward, moving on?

“Dylan,” I finally admitted.

Logan went very still and he didn’t reply for a long moment. When he finally did, his voice was detached and monotone. “Don’t let this affect your work today.”

“It won’t,” I assured him, and turned to leave. I cursed the disappointment that gripped me. How had I expected him to react? Did I want him to be upset or angry or anything else? He was being professional. That was the nature of our relationship. Nothing else.

To want for more was a foolish notion.

“Hazel?” he said.

My heart leapt, my whole disposition brightening as I turned to face Logan once more. “Yes?”

“Close the door on your way out,” he said, then dropped his gaze down to his paperwork.

My heart fell straight back down to the floor. “Yes, Sir,” said, and closed the door..

The day moved slowly, my skin itching with nerves. Every time I had checked the clock, only a few minutes had passed. I cursed. It had felt like an hour at least.

Logan didn’t talk to me for the rest of the day. He did give me assignments, setting notices on my calendar and a few brief messages. But as for actually speaking to me? Nope. Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.

Even when he left his office to go to a meeting or lunch, he didn’t even acknowledge me.

I was starting to wonder if I was invisible, so I purposefully passed by Maria’s desk on my way to the bathroom just so she would wave at me.

Not invisible, then.

He had to be acting weird about the date, right? Or was this more evidence that he didn’t think I was capable?

As I stewed with my thoughts and worries, my phone buzzed with a text. When I reached a good stopping

point in my work, I checked . It was from bylan

Looking forward to seeing you. He ended the text with a flirty wink anaji

smiled, the first time all day, and typed my reply

Me too

I thought for a moment of adding a line or two complaing about work, or about Logan. But I stopped myself at once Until the two repaired their relationshid best stop mentioning one to the other

Dylan sent another text, which I eagerly checked.

Did you tell Logan about our date?

My smile fell right off my face: How did he know? Did Logan say something?

No way Logan was acting aloot, and he didn’t care about me romantically. Those kisses had been mistakes. Dylan was probably just innocently asking

As I debated how to reply, Dylan sent another message.

Don’t answer that None of my business

1 replied

“It’s fine. I did tell him. He was curious about my outfit

I hoped

wasn’t too much. I conveyed that Logan knew but also expressed his possible reasoning for

being curious. Everything was very innocent. Logan was the one acting strangely here.

waited a moment more, but when no new messages came in, I set the phone to the side and returned to

An hour later, Dylan finally replied

Til swing by your work and pick you up when you are done

That didn’t seem like the greatest of ideas. What if Logan and Dylan ran into each other? Were they ready to fix things between them?

Why did i get the sinking suspicion that Dylan wanted to force that kind of confrontation.

Another message

TV wait in the lobby for you when you are done

On Okay That made more sense. Dylan was just being a gentleman, not trying to start something with Logan. That was very thoughtful

Al

uick reply, confirming and thanking him, then focused back on my work for the rest of the day. At 5. I was mostly ready to go. Logan was still in his office, working away. It didn’t seem right to just disappear on him, especially if he needed help with something This was my job after all. So, before i shut down my computer or put all of my things away. I walked to his door and knocked

Logan had been hoping that Hazel would just leave without telling him. He didn’t know if he could handle any kind of conversation with her right now, not when he was about ready to explode.

All of her nerves felt so agitated. Had he had too much coffee? What was his problem today?

Ever since Hazel told him she was going on a date with Dylan after work, he’d felt like he was ready to crawl out of his own skin. It was a strange, unusual feeling. He’d never been so ready to punch a wall in his life.

But he couldn’t for the life of him figure out why.

That’s a lie, he grumbled to himself. If he stopped actually lying to himself, he would be able to face the truth

With each passing moment, he had been filled with dread, because every time that second hand ticked, “was one second closer to Hazel’s date with Dylan.

When he thought of Dylan wrapping his arms around Hazel, maybe even kissing her

A knock sounded at the door. Logan’s nerve snapped, and he broke the pencil he’d been holding clear in half.

“Fuck,” he grumbled, and shoved the evidence of his frustration off of his desk and onto the floor by his feet, before calling, “Enter.”

Hazel came through the door, looking no less stunning that she had this morning. That pencil skirt hugged her curves. And that button down shirt and just enough buttons undone to be tasteful yet also teasing.

And soon–too soon, now, at the end of the work day Dylan would be the one to enjoy this outfit and her company. While Logan sat her in his office and tried desperately not to think about what they could be up to.

“I’m heading out for the day,” she said. She worried her bottom lip with her teeth. “Unless you need anything else…?”

“No,” Logan replied too sharply. He tried again. “No. Go. Don’t be late for your… date.”

“Oh, he’s not here yet. I can stay a bit longer if you need.” She laughed a little, nervously. “You know how he’s always running late.”

“I do…” Logan said. What did she mean he’s not here yet? “He’s coming here?”
