Chapter 124
He instinctively threw his arms around me to catch me. I placed my hands on his chest and pushed myself up slightly. His eyes met mine.
“What in the…” I looked around and realized I was in the bedroom. “How did I get here? Why are you on
I the floor?” I asked groggily.
“You looked uncomfortable on the couch, so I brought you in here instead,” he explained, yawning. “I tried the couch but it is not good for sleeping.”
I shook my head. “It’s really not,” I said.
Neither of us moved. His strong arms felt nice around me, like I was safe and nothing in the world could. harm me here:
I studied him. His hair was just the perfect amount of tousled. He was wearing a plain white t–shirt and a pair of boxers, and he looked damn good in both of them. He noticed me looking him over and he gave me one of his heart–melting smiles. I bit my lip. I was swooning.
“Hi,” he said, causing my stomach to burst forth with a million butterflies.
“Hi,” I said quietly. My god, I thought to myself. Am I still dreaming?
His eyes moved to my lips, then back up to my eyes. It would be so easy to kiss him right now. I wanted him to roll me over onto my back and….
I closed my eyes and lowered my head towards his. My lips met his cheek. I opened my eyes and saw he had turned his head to the side..
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly. “I want to, but…”
My lips tingled with anticipation. I knew it was wrong. I knew we shouldn’t. But damn, did I want it. I gave
him an understanding nod.
I pushed myself out of his arms and rolled off of him. I moved to kneel next to him. He pushed himself up to sitting. We stared into each other’s eyes. He reached out a hand to push a strand of hair behind my ear. I reached up and held his hand in place on my cheek. His touch was warm and soothing. I closed my eyes. for a moment then released his hand.
Without another word, I stood and started to walk out of the room. I closed the door behind me and leaned against it, letting out a long sigh.
Logan watched Hazel as she left the room and closed the door behind her. Even in just a t–shirt and sweats, she was beautiful. Maybe even more so than she was at that dinner party. Her slightly mussed hair and her long, thin legs and that ass. My god that ass, he thought.
Logan closed his eyes, keeping that image of her walking away from him in his head.
Man had she felt good, he thought, lying in his arms like that. It had taken everything in him to not throw
her onto the bed and….
Logan shook his head to stop the train of thoughts before they derailed. She was still nearby, and if he let himself think too much about the ways he sometimes fantasized about her he wasn’t sure he’d be able to stop himself again
He stood and moved to the bed. Maybe this was a sign that things were becoming a problem with having Hazel working so closely with him.
Maybe he needed to make some changes within the office.
No way was I sleeping after that, even if the couch had been somewhat comfortable. I laid awake, tossing and turning, wondering when my phone alarm was finally going to sound.
w what was i
I couldn’t believe I had almost kissed him. Again. It was hard enough after the first two, what thinking?
I closed my eyes and the scene came back into my head. Logan beneath me, looking at me with those eyes, his soft, supple lips just asking to be kissed.
Oh yeah, that’s what I was thinking.
I forced my eyes open. If I kept up with those thoughts, I was going to barge back into that bedroom and jump on top of that man.
I threw my legs over the side of the couch and walked into the kitchen. I splashed my face with cold water and patted it dry with the nearby hand towel. I had to find a different hotel room for the rest of the trip. No way could we stay together after that.
I put my shoes on, grabbed the room key from the counter, and made my way down to the front desk. The same clerk from earlier greeted me. “What can I do for you?” He asked.
“Did you have any luck finding a different room for me? I asked.
“No luck, I’m so sorry,” he said with a frown. “There are a couple different conventions going on this week, everything seems to be booked up.”
Super. “Okay. Thanks for checking,” I said.
I decided to take the stairs to kill some more time. Maybe I could talk Ralph into trading with me for the rest of the week.
“Hazel, what are you doing out here?” I heard from above me. I looked up to see Logan sitting on the stairs.
“I went to see if the clerk had another room for me,” I said. “No luck.” I paused, then asked, “What are you doing out here?” Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
He lowered his head. “…couldn’t sleep. Do you want to talk maybe?”
I shrugged. “Sure.”
I wasn’t sure what else there was to say to each other, but I climbed the stairs up to him and sat next to him anyway.
We sat in an awkward silence for several minutes. Unable to take it anymore, I decided to go first. “I’m sorry, I should not have tried to kiss you,” I said. “It was just…I was still waking up, and…” And you looked so hot and how could I not? I thought. “…and I’m sorry.”
“No, you don’t have to…I mean, I get it…” Logan seemed flustered. He looked down at his hands. “Truth be
told, I would have let you if, you know, the fact that you’re married now.”
“Oh,” I said, stunned by his confession. He must think I’m the worst, flirting with guys and trying to kiss him while he also thinks I’m married. “Logan, I…”
“I’m sorry,” he said at the exact same time. “I shouldn’t have even said that. You’re married and I need to… accept that.”
My heart skipped a beat at that. “I need to tell you something.”
At that moment Logan’s phone began to ring. He looked at it, confused since it was so early in the morning. He hit the accept button. “Hello?…Oh! That’s that’s great news, thank you.” He hung up. “That was the front desk. Another room has opened up here, you can move into it tomorrow.”
I couldn’t help but notice he had looked and sounded a little sad to receive that news. “Oh, that’s great!” feigned excitement.
“What were you going to say before they called?”
I bit my lip, hesitating. “Oh, nothing. It’s nothing.”
He stood and helped me up. “Your husband is a lucky man, Hazel.”
