Chapter 20: The Icy Cold That Can’t Be Covered
“Tredan? You and him?” When Woodrow heard that the notorious iceberg, Tredan, was doing this for a woman? He let out a laugh, unable to hide his curiosity, and bombarded Octavia Gills with questions, until Domino gave him an unpredictable kick under the table.
“Octavia, ignore him! Tredan did what he was supposed to do, it’s fine! I’ve got my eye on you two!”
After a relaxing meal with Domino, and bringing the take-aways together to her brother and mother, she and Domino went their separate ways, and she walked back to the Group Davi house as if she had lost her mind!
Is he at home? Octavia Gills hovers at the door and does not enter. She hesitated, she was afraid that he would look at her with weak loving eyes that no longer looked at her as they used to, she was afraid of being Tredan treating her with indifference.
“Why don’t you go in?” Tredan’s familiar voice suddenly sounded behind Octavia Gills, who jumped and looked back, why was he here?
“I… I was just about to go in!” Octavia Gills, who was not a good liar, blushed, ah, what do I do? Why was her heart beating so fast! Watching Tredan open the door and go in, it was as if the sweetness of yesterday was just a personal dream of hers. Well, she had to wake up sooner or later!
As Tredan entered the house, he told her that he was tired, and told her to prepare the bath water for him.
Without another word, Octavia Gills took off his coat and hung it up for him, then carefully put his personal preference for hot water in the bath. She went to the bedroom and prepared the robe he loved to wear, handed it to him and told him the bath was ready.
Octavia Gills was a lost in thought, a little hard to love, a little resigned, there was an intricate confusion of thoughts in her head, when at that moment the mobile phone, which had been left in the hall by Tredan, rang and Octavia Gills rushed over to it, ready to take it down to him.
Lilian Drye calling
Looking at the words displayed on her phone screen, Octavia Gills froze! She…?
“Who’s calling?” Tredan, in his bathrobe, asked as he looked at the Octavia holding the phone. It was ringing, so she fidgeted with it to give to Tredan.
“… Ms. Lilian!” said Octavia Gills handing the phone to Tredan. She should have expected that this was bound to happen sooner or later! She was just a stand-in; she should not have expected much. Was she wrong?
“Did you miss me, baby?” Tredan spoke softly to Lilian Drye on the phone, not minding Octavia Gills in the slightest. Every word stung Octavia Gills.
“Honey, your birthday is coming up, what do you want for a present? I’m going to give you a big surprise! Lilian Drye’s voice came through Tredan’s mobile phone and Octavia Gills looked at the sweet, expectant smile on Tredan’s face, making Octavia Gills feel like a knife was piercing through her heart. She struggled to tell herself that she should have accepted all of this long ago, that she was merely taking Lilian Drye’s place for him, that she should not have been so greedy.
That night, even the finest silk blanket could not give her warmth from the bone-chilling cold.
Back at work, Octavia Gills didn’t allow herself a single moment to spare, preparing a huge pile of paperwork for herself, organizing it, tallying it up reports and never stopping, afraid that she might seize that little gap to latch on to an obsession that didn’t belong to her.
Eddison knocked on Octavia Gills’ office door. He got no answer and knocked again. This brought Octavia Gills, who was deliberately absorbed in her work, back to reality.
“Whoa, come on in!” Octavia Gills suddenly stopped working, and finally felt tired as she rubbed her eyes with both hands and pressed her temples.
“You look so tired! What’s wrong? Is the workload too heavy?” Eddison looked at Octavia Gills, who was a bit out of sorts, and asked worriedly. Octavia Gills jumped up from her chair at the sound of the general manager’s voice.
“Hello General Manager??, if you have anything for me to do, just ask me to come over to your office! How can I ask you to come over to me personally!”
Looking at Octavia Gills, who was a little more energetic than she had been earlier, Eddison teased her, “I was afraid I’d be stood up again. Do you remember that you owe me a meal?”
Octavia Gills had almost forgotten, with all that has been going on lately, she wouldn’t have remembered it if the General Manager hadn’t mentioned it.
“No… there isn’t!” Octavia Gills was one not of those people who was good at lying, but anyone with a little bit of heart could see how faint-hearted she was at the moment.
“Let’s go then! I’ve called and booked the place; I’ll take you there now, alright?” It was the intention of Eddison to give her a chance to make any excuse, or any opportunity to stand him up.
It was lunchtime, and Octavia Gills looked incredulously at her watch, which read 12:00 noon, and Eddison dragged Octavia Gills unassumingly out the front door of the office.
In a particularly elegant and romantic French restaurant, Eddison pulled out a chair for Octavia Gills and helped her to sit down, then happily introduced her to the restaurant, “The chef at this restaurant was once a top chef at Millet and was recruited by the owner of this restaurant for a lot of money. His steaks are world class and I brought you here to try them.”
Octavia Gills’ eyes widened as she listened to Eddison’s world class presentation, how could she, how could she afford this meal? How much money did she have left? She struggled to remember, to calculate. One hundred? Three hundred? Maybe five hundred? She hated herself for having dug such a hole and burying herself in it! What a way to die!
“Wait, GM… that I’m not hungry, you have the steak and I’ll just have a glass of plain water!” She lied to the point of losing her teeth. Octavia Gills wanted to grab the white square napkin and wrap it around her face.
“I brought you here specially to try it, how can you not eat it? If you’re not hungry, you can just take a bite! Waiter, serve the food!” It was as if Eddison did not see that the beautiful woman in front of him was anxious about the vacancy in her wallet.
“I’ve been losing weight recently, General Manager, you know that, isn’t this A4 waist popular now? I’m catching up with the trend!” Octavia Gills was still struggling to save the day. Eddison, who was about to be convinced, heard Octavia Gills’ stomach growl. Embarrassed, Octavia Gills gave an awkward smile.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Then you should just let go your waistline and eat! I’m paying for this meal, silly, what kind of man lets a woman pay.” Eddison laughed cheerfully in front of Octavia Gills.
In such a romantic atmosphere, the man smiling in front of her does bear a slight resemblance to a smiling Tredan.
“Octavia, you’re looking at me so intensely, can’t help but fall in love with me? If so, you must tell me, I’ll go home tomorrow and steal the account book to register with you at the marriage registry office!” Eddison said seriously to Octavia Gills.
