Chapter 538 He's His Own Person
Michael got what Andrew was hinting at; there was no Mr. White, just a cover story he had helped create.
Now that Penelope had laid everything out, he had no reason to hide anything. "Ms. Blair, I get where you're coming from as a parent. I have a kid of my own."
Penelope was momentarily taken aback by his words.
Right, the baby was Michael's, and everyone in their circle knew it.
Michael was now a father, so what right did she have to stand here and tell him what to do?
"But in my opinion, even though I run the Smith family business now, I would never force my kid to take it over. He's his own person, from the moment he was in Emily's belly. Whatever kind of life he wants in the future, I won't interfere, just support."
"You..." Penelope hadn't expected Michael to push back like this, nor had she anticipated that the seemingly carefree playboy would now show signs of being a real father. She was at a loss for words and didn't know how to respond.
"Ms. Blair."
At that moment, Emily's voice came from behind. Penelope turned around to see her standing there.
It seemed Emily had heard Michael's words.
"Ms. Blair, the setup over there still needs your approval."
Penelope forced a smile and turned to leave.
Seeing this, Andrew wisely stepped aside, leaving Michael and Emily facing each other.
"I... I came here today because I was invited," Michael suddenly explained.
Clearly, he was afraid Emily might misunderstand and think he had come to bother her again.
Emily couldn't help but laugh at his words. "Yes, I know. My assistant sent the invitation."
So that's how it was.
Michael could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Emily's gaze softened, and her smile was evident.
Especially under the dazzling lights, her natural charm and allure were even more pronounced.
Michael had to admit, he was drawn to her, almost unable to look away.
"I heard what you said earlier. Michael, thank you on behalf of Harry. He has a good father, thank you."
Emily had been thinking about these words for a long time and finally expressed her gratitude.
Michael was slightly taken aback, then a gentle look flashed in his eyes. So Emily was thanking him.
At least, they could now coexist peacefully for the sake of their child. "There's no need to thank me. I'm the child's father; it's what I should do."
Watching the two of them talk, Andrew couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration. "Wow, this is the most harmonious I've ever seen Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith. What a great couple, Harry is so lucky to have such parents." Meanwhile, a cold voice questioned from a private room on the second floor. "Why are they together again?"
A figure emerged from the doorway, exuding a deep aura, with eyes as sharp as a hawk, staring down at the seemingly pleasant couple below.

It was Dean.
Dean was just an accomplice; he hadn't done anything too outrageous, just helped Sophia out. So the Emerald City police didn't give him a harsh sentence. After being detained for a bit, he was released.
The first thing Dean did when he got out was change his clothes, reconnect with his old buddies, take a refreshing shower, and head straight to the jewelry exhibition where Michael was.
Seeing Michael and Emily looking like the perfect couple, Dean snorted, a dark look flashing in his eyes, his fists clenched tightly, veins bulging.
"Why? Why do they get to be so happy and harmonious?"
Jealousy and resentment surged within Dean, especially when he thought of Sophia still being detained.
"They're parents now; they have to meet." One of his friends tried to calm Dean down, attempting to soothe his anger.
"Hey, Dean, you wouldn't be thinking of going after Michael again, would you? This isn't Everglade City where you can do whatever you want. Michael's a big deal in Emerald City. If you go after him, you'd be going against the entire upper society of Emerald City!"
"Yeah, Michael practically runs this place. You were only in the police station for a few days because Michael didn't hold a grudge. If he had, you wouldn't be out until next Christmas!"
Dean's face grew darker at their words.
These friends, always missing the point, only made him more agitated.
"So you're saying I should thank him for getting out early?"
The room fell silent, everyone exchanging glances, the atmosphere tense. "We're not
saying that, just advising you not to be impulsive!"
Dean sneered, his eyes growing colder. He knew what they were thinking.
But he refused to be manipulated by fate.
To him, Michael was just a lucky guy with a good family background. What did that matter?
If Dean had the same conditions, he wouldn't lose to Michael.
He had been suppressed all this time, and he even ended up with a criminal record!
Anger and resentment intertwined, Dean took a deep breath, his gaze like a knife, sweeping over everyone. "I don't need your advice. I know what I'm doing."
With that, Dean turned back to the private room, continuing to eat, drink, and play, but his thoughts were already focused on Michael downstairs.
Dean wouldn't let Michael off easily.
He had chosen this location specifically to remind himself that his enemy was right there. He had to endure and wait for the right moment to make Michael pay. Meanwhile, Emily had to continue working.
After talking with her, Michael felt much better, his face naturally showing more smiles.
He didn't even notice the danger slowly approaching.
At that moment, Michael saw a familiar face, Veda, accompanied by someone he used
to "dislike" the most, Daniel.
He used to dislike Daniel because Daniel had feelings for Emily.
But now, seeing Veda and Daniel walking hand in hand, Michael's thoughts changed.
He frowned, wondering to himself, 'When did these two get so close, close enough to be holding hands?'
What do you think?
