Chapter 7: A Family trip
“Are you trying to wiggle‘ your way out of this? Daniel asked if he did not really believe that this woman wanted to divorce him.
“You said you are the only one who can control when we get a divorce. Well, I cannot wait for you to finally be ready. I may not have had any leverage before, but I have now. If you want the things Grandpa gave me back. Divorce me within a month. I will hand it over as alimony,” Anya said and nodded to him before walking away
The taxi she had hired arrived and she got in and left. Daniel, who had been left behind, felt stifled for some reason.
Daniel went back to the office to work after this. When he was done, he picked up the phone to call his lawyer. He informed him of the situation at hand and his lawyer referred him to at divorce lawyer.
In his office, Selene walked in and served him tea. When she heard the contents of his call, her heart raced wildly. She was getting divorced?
She was very satisfied with the situation. She suppressed a smile and said farewell to Daniel. It was already evening and time for her to get off work. Usually she would wait for Daniel, but she decided to leave him to his call today.
Over the phone, the lawyer was not optimistic.
“Are you saying that since marriage, you have ignored her, she has never lived in your home and used your property or your money?” the lawyer asked.
“Yes, is this a problem?” Daniel asked.
“It depends. Do you see her walking out of the marriage easily?” the lawyer asked. Daniel thought about it. Though Anya was the one who had asked for a divorce, she was also the one who pretended to be someone else just so she could marry him. He did not trust that she would just leave.
“No really,” Daniel answered.
“Well, that will be a problem, then. She could claim that what your grandfather gave was compensation for being neglected in her marriage, she could also ask for a large alimony on those grounds,” the lawyer said.
“What do you sugge
you suggest? I need to divorce her in a month’s time,” Daniel asked with a frown.
“You need to prove you have fulfilled your responsibility. Have her live with you for this month, to prove that you tried making the marriage work. Filling under irreconcilable differences would be favorable to you. Live as a married couple before your divorce. This would help fasten the process,” the lawyer advised.

Daniel ended the catt and sat in thought for a while. He was sure of one thing; that woman he married was stubborn. He could not see her refusing to move in with him. He may have to
threaten her.
He picked up the phone and called Anya.
“Come over to my office at Shaw headquarters today. Let us talk about the divorce. I am waiting,” he said and ended the call. Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Anya stared at her phone in shock. He wanted to talk at this time? She sighed, got up, and took a taxi to Shaw group.
When she got there, there was no one, but security. They knew she was arriving they just let her in.
it seems, as
Anya looked at the interior of the massive building. She could definitely feel out of place here. She took the elevator to the top floor, guessing that Daniel’s office would be there.
When she got to the top floor, there was no one. She immediately started looking around to find a sign that would tell her where Daniel’s office was. She walked past many offices till she got to a large oak door with Daniel’s name engraved on a plank on the door.
She knocked but no one answered. After a few more knocks, she opened the door and walked in. She found papers littered all around the couch and on Daniel’s desk. She had to push some documents aside to find a spot to sit.
After sitting, the words on the document caught her attention. She picked them up to look at. Where are these weapon schematics?
She read through a few before a voice startled her.
“What are you doing?” Daniel asked suddenly, she panicked and dropped the papers.
“Sorry, I just…” Anya started to explain.
“How much did you read?” he asked, stepping into the room.
“I… I…” Anya needed no confirmation that she had read something she shouldn’t have.
“These are government files. Files that she never leaks till the project is launched. Why would you read through them?” he asked.
“Please, I won’t tell anyone, “Anya promised.
“Anya, Do you think you are walking out of here after seeing that?” he asked and Anya went pale.
Anya dreaded this moment very much. She thought of all the things she had done wrong that got her to this point.
“I promise I will not tell anyone, Mr Shaw.” No matter how many times she promised he
remained paused, staring at her as though he had just discovered something interesting.
“And I shout, trust you? How can I be sure you would not tell anyone?”
“I am really tight lipped Mr Shaw, I will take it to the grave,” she said.
The way she addressed him made Daniel even more irritated. Mr Shaw? You would have thought he was a telemarketer.
“You are right, it will be safer in the grave; if not you, at least my secret,” Daniel said, and she fell to dread calm over her all over again.
Anya believed every word he said. She may not have been accepted much by the Shaw family but she knew that they had a lot of skeletons in their closet. People have disappeared without a word because they offended the Shaw family.
She racked her brain, looking for something to say to save her life at this very moment. She really believed he would kill her. She was not stupid, she had seen a lot and he knew it. Anya knew he
was a ruthless man and there was no explanation her mind could make up that did not reach that conclusion.
Even though they were married, Anya knew that she meant nothing in his eyes. His family would not bat an eye to remove her.
“So now what?” she asked, completely resigned to her fate.
When he saw the defeated look on her face, for some reason he was not pleased. He did enjoy her begging, but her look of defeat bothered him greatly. Feeling slightly uncomfortable, and definitely irritated, he felt agitation come over him as he paced around his office.
“I will do everything you ask, I will submit to being watched till the project launches if you wish it,” Anya bargained.
He turned around and looked at her small figure by the corner, and something about her demeanor irritated him. It was as though she was sure he would kill her. Was that what he looked like in her eyes?
Daniel was a predator, he could smell fear. He used it to his advantage to keep his enemies at bay. But when he smelled her fear, it annoyed him.
“You were brave to bargain about your inheritance. Not so brave now, are you?” he asked. For some reason, his words sparked a thought in her head; did he enjoy this? Did he enjoy watching her pain? At that moment, she stood and stared at him straight in the face.
“What are you going to do with me?” she asked. She tried to look brave. She did not want to expose her pain to him to enjoy.
“No more scared?” he asked.
“Are you going to kill me?” she asked him, and his eyes narrowed. Her emotions were not consistent; she was scared one moment, and brave the next. Sometimes she dared not look at
