The Billionaire’s Ex-Wife (Her Ex-Husband’s Regret) Chapter 37

Megan.

‘Goodbye, Megan. Please close the door when you leave.

Kayden’s words echo in my mind over and over as I sit on the bath tub, drinking and crying my heart out.

“How could this be? How could he break up with me? Did he only love me because he thought I was the girl who saved him in the lake house?”

I could barely remember that day. There was a boy who was stupid enough to jump on the lake. I told Cassie to just leave him. He’s none of our business. Let the adults rescue him. But Cassie was being a busybody, as always. Always sticking her nose on other people’s business.

But I’m thankful for her, at least. Who would have known that the boy she saved was the heir of the richest family in the city? My mother saw an opportunity in this immediately. Me? I was just curious about him. What did Cassie see in him that made her jump and risk her own life just to save him?

The resort manager insisted that he be taken the ER. My mother volunteered to come in the guise of being his savior’s mother. And when we got to the ER, my mother just announced to everybody that I was the one who saved him.

“But it wasn’t me, Mom!” I remember telling my mother that day.

“But nobody knew that! I’ll take care of the holel staff.”

“I don’t understand. Why do I need to act like the hero?”

“Because he’s rich. And his fi

father would probably want to give a reward.”

“I don’t care about a damn reward!”

My mother glared at me. “But I do! We could use the money.” She bent down until she was at eye level with me. “And did you want anyone to say that you knew your sister and that boy were in the lake and you did not even care to report it?”

I gasped. “Mom!”

“Oh, yes! If they died, then you would be taken away in some girls’ institution, where they keep underage criminal girls.”

It was a threat, and immediately, I cowered. I didn’t want to go to some institution. “No, Mommy, I don’t want that.”

“Good. Just do everything I say.”

In the end, Mother was able to get a considerable sum as a reward. His father was so guilty. He should be. He neglected his. son, that’s why he took a stroll in the dangerous part of the resort. So, his father was happy to give my mother some

payment.

As for me, Kayden really believed that I was his savior. Funny, how he forgot Cassie’s face. True! I was really prettier and more memorable than her, even when we were kids. Kayden and I exchanged numbers then, and we kept in touch over the years. I always thought he’d be the one I’d marry.

It was no secret that I hated Cassie. And back then, she seemed to be scoring points with our father because she was showing talents in drawing and design ideas. I hated it. I hated that she got the spotlight. I hated her… period!

One day I met a guy at the bar. We immediately hit it off, and I told him about my problem with my stepsister. I said I

“I don’t know. Make her have a scandal or something. Maybe she gets pregnant, I don’t care! I just don’t want our father to think the world of her.”

He smiled. “I think I have an idea,”

“What?”

“You want her ruined? Well, I have just the perfect scheme. I wanted to do the same to someone anyway.”

“Who?”

“You don’t need to know. Just someone I want

it out of my way. Someone, MY father thinks the world of.”

“And what do you have in mind?”

“Send your sister to this address, I’ll make su she spends the night there. And tomorrow, I will tip off media. The whole city is going to feast on them.”

His plan seemed foolproof..

“Is she going to be with an older guy?”

“Sure. This man’s reputation needs to be tainted.”

“How old is this man?”.

some friends in the

“A lot older than me! Don’t worry. What’s important is that their one-night-stand is going to be the talk of the town.”

“But you have to know, Cassie is a tough nut to crack! She could be frigid! I don’t think she’ll just sleep with anybody.”

“She doesn’t have to. The fact that she’s going to walk out of some guy’s hotel room is enough for filthy mouths to keep talking.”

How the fuck would I know that the older guy he was talking about was not really much older than Cassie? How was I to know that he was referring to Kayden? MY Kayden?

Kayden and I weren’t dating then. But we kept in touch. Somehow, we always thought we’d marry each other someday. He kept saying that he was a man of his word. And he promised me that he would marry me, take care of me for the rest of my life… in exchange for me saving his life.

Well I guess that promise was always meant for Cassie, And I was a fool for thinking that it was meant for me! Or that Kayden would never find out the truth. Or even if he found out, he wouldn’t care anymore because he was already in love

with me!

I took a sip of the wine again.

I cannot lose Kayden! I cannot let Cassie win! There is no universe where she will win over me! And I will do anything-

I stare at the razor in my hand. I swallow hard, thinking if it is worth the risk.

Anything…

My heart races with a mixture of determination and desperation as I gaze at the gleaming razor in my hand. With trembling fingers, I bring the razor to my wrist, the cold metal sends shivers down my spine.

Just a small wound, deep enough to bring some blood out. And will go to the ER. If Kayden sees me in a hospital bed, maybe he will have a change of heart about leaving me. Maybe seeing me hurt will spark some remaining feelings he has for

In one swift motion, I drag the razor across my wrist.

“Ouch!”

A thin line of blood wells up from the wound. Blood starts oozing out, faster than what I had intended.

“Oh no!”

I think I cut deeper than I intended.

Panic grips me when I realize this. I grab the towel beside me, and press on the wound, trying to stop the bleeding. I manage to get out of the tub. Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.

“Help!” I cry out. I hope one of the maids will hear me

A wave of dizziness washes over me. The room spins, and I feel myself growing weaker and weaker.

“Help!” I call again.

I fall to the floor.

“Hel

My body grows limp. The last thing I hear is the sound of my shallow breathing and then everything else fades.

The hospital room feels cold and sterile as I slowly regain consciousness. The white walls seem to be closing in on me, making the room feel smaller. My eyes flutter open, the pain in my wrist reminding me of the night before.

“Right! I wounded myself with a razor blade.”

Accidentally, I cut too deep!

“She’s awake,” the nurse announces.

“Oh my God, Megan!” my mother squeals. “Are you okay?”

Slowly, I nod

The doctor approaches and checks on me

“You lost a lot of blood,” he says. “You’re lucky somebody found you just in time. Ten more minutes, and you would have been beyond saving” He gives instructions to the nurse and then he leaves.

I can sense the anger in him. Who can blame him? They all think it was suicide. But it isn’t a suicide attempt! It’s just

supposed to be a show. A plot to make Kayden come back to me.

My mother rushes to my side, brushing away the tears on her checks. She holds my hand gently.

“Sweetheart, whatever it is, we will get through this together. We are here for you. Always remember that. You will never go through this alone.”

“I will kill that bastard Kayden!” my stepfather says. “Does he even consider himself a man? He’s going to let you go through.

this alone?”

My eyes widen in disbelief. “How did you know that Kayden and I broke up?”

“Well, he called me.” my father responds. “He told me that he’s no longer interested in all the money he invested in my business. I can keep the investment. He doesn’t even want it.”

So, he hates me that much, he doesn’t even want his money back? As far as I remember, he invested millions in my

“What? And he thinks he can escape his responsibility?” my father asks angrily.

“What responsibility?” I ask, sitting up from bed.

“Well, the baby, of course!” my mother answers

“What baby?” I ask in disbelief.

Both my parents look at me with a bewildered expression on their faces.

“You didn’t know?” my mother asks. “Sweetheart, you’re pregnant”
