“Why are you staring at me, Seraphina?”

“Fetch me your stupid Alpha!” I screamed, flinging the champagne flute at her. She was quick, dodging as the glass shattered against the wall.

I didn’t know where she ran to, but in no time, she was beside me, her slender arms grasping mine. I shrugged her off violently.

“I need a word with your stupid Alpha, the one who thinks he’s so smart,” I sneered. “I want him to know that I won’t be one of his women just like that. I’m not Isabel’s replacement, and I’ll never be hers—or anyone else’s—replacement,” I shouted at the top of my lungs.

“Please, my lady, don’t do this.” Seraphina’s voice trembled as she knelt before me, her eyes glassy. “The Alpha won’t be pleased about it. Please, I beg you,” she sobbed at my feet, but I ignored her.

Struggling to stand, I dragged my feet forward, desperate to deliver my message since she wasn’t willing to do it. But my vision was blurry…

The anxiety in me dissolved instantly as soon as my eyes fell on her. Seraphina had made me so damn scared that I ran before she could even finish telling the whole story. I had expected the worst, my mind swirling with pessimistic scenarios, all of them worst-case.

My eyes locked onto her face, and she, too, was watching me intently, a faint amused expression on her features. Her eyes were red—not from crying, but it looked like she was either drunk or angry. Regardless of what inner turmoil she was dealing with, I was glad she hadn’t done anything reckless in my absence.

“Here, sign it,” she slurred, her voice pitched higher than it should be, indicating a failed attempt at shouting. I was right—she was drunk.

“That was so cool, you know, that little stunt you pulled at my place,” she giggled in a high-pitched voice that grated on my nerves.

“You should recreate that… just kidnap me. You look so beautiful when you’re clueless,” she said lazily, her light brown eyes half-closed as she let out a soft sigh. “But you’re sexy when you’re angry.”

I felt my frown deepen. What the hell had she drunk that made her act this way? I scanned the room and saw the remnants of her rage—an almost empty bottle of white wine. Shaking my head in disbelief, I leaned toward her. I needed to get her off the floor where she was sitting, propped up against the wall. A sheepish smile was plastered on her face. This was the most relaxed I’d seen her awake.
