Chapter 40
Chapter 40
Chapter 40 I Promise Emily stood by the door, looking straight at Elva. Pretending to be poised, Elva picked up the phone and walked over to help Emily by the arm. “If you need help, just tell me. Don’t bother yourself, please!” While speaking, she carefully observed Emily’s facial expression, wondering how much Emily had heard. Due to the men tal illness, Emily had a bad memory. But if Emily heard what Elva just said, she would probably disclose the secrets. Rosalie arranged for someone to make the car accident. Once the accident was clarified, Rosalie could be used as the scapegoat, but if the Friedan family found out that Elva was the plotter, she would be kicked out of the house before Seraphina came back. The Friedan family gave Elva status and money, and she was afraid of losing everything. Emily looked at Elva and asked anxiously, “Elva, what did you say about Waldron? Did something happen to him?” Hearing this, Elva was frightened with a chill all over her body She tried hard to steady her voice and comfort Emily, “Don’t worry, Waldron is all right. He made some troubles and Dad will solve it.” If Emily knew what happened to Waldron, she would not be able to withstand it. At the moment, Elva only wanted to make Emily feel at ease. “Um…Mom, what else did you hear?” Elva clenched her fists uneasily and her face gradually turned pale. She hoped that Emily heard nothing, otherwise… “What do you mean?” Emily naively glanced at Elva and replied, “Are you talking about the part you told someone to keep a secret?” Emily paused for a while and then asked cautiously, “Elva, who are you talking to? What’s the secret exactly?”
Elva suddenly froze. Emily’s hearing seemed to be extremely good today. “Did I say something wrong?” Sensing the abnormal atmosphere, Emily quickly hugged Elva in a flattering manner and comforted her, “I am sorry. It’s my fault.” A fright flashed in Elva’s eyes. She hugged Emily in response and asked softly, “It’s okay. But Mom, can you promise not to tell anyone what you heard today, even my father and brothers, okay?” Emily thought for a while and then nodded. “Okay, I promise.” “Thank you, Mom.” Elva looked relaxed, but her fingers firmly pinched into the skin.
Inside the courthouse. Claudia and Edmond sat together and talked with the divorce clerk. “Domestic violence?” The clerk, a middle-aged woman, looked at the materials again and asked Claudia. Claudia shook her head. “Affair?” the clerk asked again. Claudia said nothing. The clerk added, “Who cheated?” Edmond and Claudia gazed at each other in dismay and then looked away uncomfortably. “Sorry, I have to figure out the reason. Nowadays, young people tend to divorce as long as they have a quarrel, and then remarry after reconciliation, which has generated a lot of work for us.” The clerk raised her glasses and looked them up and down. “Guys, please treat your marriage seriously, and the fertility rate is already low now…” Unexpectedly, Edmond and Claudia failed to get divorced. Seeing that the two were unmoved and showed no signs of repentance, the clerk added, “There is a one-month cooling-off period for divorce, so please come back in one month.” “If you decide to divorce, just file for it and let the court decide.” With embarrassment, Edmond and Claudia came out of the
courthouse. The sun spread over them, a little bit warm but also dazzling. “Do you want to sue for divorce?” Claudia asked. “No, let’s wait till one month later,” Edmond replied. “Your marriage with Rosalie might be delayed.” Claudia thought that Edmond and Rosalie were ready to step into marriage. If the marriage was delayed by one month, Rosalie might get crazy. Edmond remained silent as Claudia talked about his marriage with Rosalie so calmly. Claudia reminded Edmond considerately, “I think you should file for divorce.” In her mind, Rosalie would not have enough patience to wait. Edmond asked with a bit of coldness, “You dislike her, don’t you?” Claudia replied in confusion, “It has nothing to do with our divorce, right?” Edmond clenched his jaw in unspeakable agony. Edmond thought it indeed had nothing to do with the divorce, but Claudia didn’t like Rosalie, so she should disagree with his marriage with Rosalie accordingly. “If you don’t like Rosalie, you should not support us to get married.” Edmond remembered that Claudia got irritated when he and Rosalie stayed together before. But now, Claudia’s calmness made Edmond feel sad and lost. It seemed that he had lost the most important thing. Hearing this, Claudia chuckled. “Yes, I was angry when I knew you two were together, but your mother is not in good health and she hopes that you two can get married and I don’t want to disappoint her. Besides, it’s my business to deal with Rosalie.” Edmond was about to marry Rosalie and divorce Claudia. It was natural that Claudia didn’t expect Edmond to stand on her side. In Claudia’s mind, if they two were in love, she was eligible to question him. However, he didn’t love her at all. All content is © N0velDrama.Org.
Therefore, Claudia had no right to ask him to follow her mind. More importantly, Edmond had already decided to side with Rosalie. Edmond and Claudia would definitely meet in court sooner or later. Instead of feeling uncomfortable then, it was better to cut off the relationship now. In response to Claudia’s words, Edmond wanted to explain but stopped in the end. What to explain? He and Rosalie were not together? In his mind, it was impossible to leave Rosalie behind. He gave Claudia a profound look and said softly, “You know clearly what Dempsey did.” He reminded coldly, “Once you divorce me, he will not let you go.” “I don’t mind!” Claudia replied with a confident smile on her face. She was fearless. Edmond believed that she was really not afraid. Thinking of the day she calmly walked out of the Clayton’s manor, Edmond said tenderly, “If you need help, feel free to tell me, after all…” He paused and then added, “We used to be a couple.” Claudia raised her eyebrows slightly and said, “I thought you and Dempsey were of the same batch.” Chapter 40 I Promise 11:40 wouchers “No.” Edmond frowned with a bit of discomfort as if he thought of something. Claudia didn’t know what had happened between Edmond and Dempsey. She didn’t care about it, so she didn’t ask further. “Okay, goodbye. I have something else to do.” Claudia glanced at her phone and waved goodbye to Edmond. ! Seeing Claudia leave without turning back, Edmond called her abruptly, “Claudia!” Claudia stood still, turned around, and smiled slightly, “Huh?” Her/elegant look was like a masterpiece of beauty, her black hair was glowed with a layer of soft
sunlight. Her blonde hair was coiled up and a strand of hair jumped out mischievously, rubbing against her collarbone. “Nothing…” Edmond replied. He lowered his head gradually and his low and h oa rse voice revealed some helplessness and unwillingness. He called her because he wanted to tell her that he didn’t want to get a divorce, but when the words came to his lips, he swallowed them again. “Bye.” He sta ggered and walked away in great embarrassment. Claudia lowered her head, put her hands on her chest, and smiled wryly. She became accustomed to the pains and indifferent to the complex feelings. She calmed down and contacted one person. Soon a male voice came out, “Claudia, finally you contact me!” “Help me check someone out when you have time,” said Claudia. “Who?” asked the man. “The truck driver who hit Waldron,” replied Claudia.
