Chapter 1312
Chapter 1312:
At the Stevens residence.
Melany’s phone buzzed incessantly with Hoyt’s calls, each one grating on her nerves. Clenching her teeth, she hissed under her breath,
“I told you to stop calling me!”
Lately, exhaustion weighed on her—both mentally and physically.
She hadn’t been able to reach Colton in two days, and with the Stevens Group’s collapse, she was desperate to find another safety net.
Morning sickness was bad enough, but scrambling to secure her future drained what little energy she had left. The last thing she needed was Hoyt adding to her problems.
On the other end of the line, Hoyt sounded just as impatient.
“Cut the crap. Transfer four hundred thousand to me right now, or I’ll spill the truth about your baby.”
Melany’s pulse spiked.
Her grip on the phone tightened as she let out a cold laugh.
“The baby has nothing to do with you. Everything I said before was a lie, just to make you willingly help me. Stop talking nonsense.”
Hoyt remained unfazed.
“So what? We both know we slept together. Do you want to see our pictures plastered all over the Stevens Group building? Surely, your man will be ‘surprised.'”
If he weren’t so desperate, he wouldn’t have even bothered calling her. But now, the Lloyd Group was entirely under Kellan’s control. His father was in police custody, and if he didn’t get the money and flee the country, he was done for.
Melany knew the truth—this child wasn’t Colton’s.
Grinding her teeth, she finally snapped,
“Fine. For old times’ sake, I’ll send you the money. But once you get it, you’d better vanish from my life.”
Men were nothing but trouble.
And more than anything, she loathed Allison.
If it weren’t for that wretched woman, how could the Stevens Group have fallen apart?
That girl had everything—her father was the richest man in the world, and her mother was a top researcher. It was downright unfair.
Hoyt chuckled, making his…
Empty promises.
“Relax. Once I have the money, you’ll never hear from me again.” Right now, all he cared about was cash.
After hanging up, Melany wasted no time. She immediately dialed the driver.
“I need to go to the company. Pick me up from the house.”
“But Mrs. Stevens…” The driver hesitated. “Mr. Stevens said you’re not allowed to leave.”
Melany let out a pitiful sigh, her tone laced with practiced vulnerability.noveldrama
“I’ve given you plenty of money these past few days. Now that the Stevens family is in crisis, do you really think I can just sit at home and do nothing?”
She sighed again for good measure.
“I’m doing this for the family. If you’re really loyal to Colton and don’t want to see him in trouble, just drive me there.”
The driver relented with a begrudging,
