Rejecting The Alpha Twins (Regan)

My Twins Baby 42

Chapter 42 Chapter 42

Xavier POV

I should have known that my mother was planning something. I shouldn't have let down my guard and gotten so close to her. I put my life in danger. Not just mine, but Regan's as well. She pushed me out of the way and saved my life. She shouldn't have. I would have healed as long as my mother didn't reach my heart with her claws. I have a wolf, but Regan still doesn't. Why did she do that? Why did she risk her own life in order to save mine? I feel helpless as I run across the grounds, making my way directly to the hospital, unable to focus on anything but the feeling of Regan's limp body cradled in my arms and the smell of her blood as she rapidly lost it. I could feel myself beginning to panic, bursting loudly through the doors, a doctor immediately motioning for me to place her onto a nearby gurney.l put her down as gently as I possibly can, feeling my throat constrict as I see how pale and listless she is.

"What happened?" the doctor demands, immediately beginning to spring into action.

"She got claws rammed through her chest" I growled, shuddering at the memory, as the doctors and nurses began to look her over, my voice shaking "She pushed me out of the way."

I still felt ashamed of that. The guilt was overwhelming. My mate could lose her life because of this, because of my mistake.

"When?" he asked urgently "How long ago?"

"A couple of minutes ago. She doesn't have a wolf yet" I added, my voice tinged with hysteria.

They had to save her. I couldn't be the reason that she died. I couldn't bear the thought of it.

The doctor swore. A familiar one came running out, one that I recognized by sight. The one who had released her records to us before spoke about Regan's condition. He began to prep Regan for an IV. "She's got extensive damage. A lot of blood loss* his tone was grim. "Can you save her?" my voice is shaking now and I can feel fear beginning to creep in, consuming me.

I'll never forgive myself if Regan dies. I can already feel my wolf's distress as he begins to growl for his mate. Both of us are worried, unable to look away from what they are doing in order to try and save her. The doctor's eyes meet mine and he hesitates. "I don't know Alpha Xavier. We can only do so much. Perhaps" he hesitates again and I almost lose my temper out of exasperation.

"What? Whatever it is name it and you shall have it. Just save her I shouted out in frustration.

Couldn't they see how fast she was fading? She was so pale.....

He began to wheel her up towards the surgery. department as I stood there staring "She needs transfusions. Blood. Yours is stronger coming from an Alpha..." he began but there was no more need to elaborate as I knew instinctively what he was getting at..

'I didn't let him finish the sentence, I was so eager to help. "Hook me up then and take my blood. Hurry. Xander will donate as well. Just do it" I snarled.

They could have all my blood if it came down to it, so long as they saved Regan.

A nurse grabbed me, placed me on a chair, and began to hook me up to take my blood. I gritted my teeth, feeling the needle be pushed underneath my skin, barely acknowledging the sharp prick it made. Xander came rushing up, looking disheveled and out of breath. I wondered what had taken him so long to get here and then dismissed it. For now, it didn't matter. Ri, now, I needed him to step up and do the same thing as I was, in order to help our mate.

My father sat down and waved at a nurse, surprising us by volunteering his own blood. By some unspoken rule, none of us brought up Mother and what she had attempted to do. The paigf it all was still too fresh in our minds Xander and 1 knew she was dead. Father had shifted into his wolf and taken her out before either of us could react to what she had done to Regan I guess the fact that she tried to kill one of her sons was too much for him and he reacted impulsively. I am somewhat relieved when I am unhooked from the needle, as well as Xander, but Father continues to donate, causing me to look at the nurse questioningly. She looks hesitant as she gives lier answer.

"There's only so much you can donate before you risk losing too much of your own," she said in response, handing us a cookie and an orange juice each.

"What about our mate" I growled, eyeing her as she sighed, and gave us sympathetic looks.

"They are still giving her transfusions. Did the person who attacked her have wolfsbane in their system?" she asked quietly.

Shit. My mother would have been given some to make her weaker in the dungeon and prevent her from fighting too much when she was brought back out. None of us had thought about it until now.

"Yes" my father confirmed, "enough to keep the wolf weak when they shifted but evidently we did not give her enough" he scowled, thinking about my mother's attack on Regan and how easily she had managed to get her claws out.

"It's seriously affecting her body's attempt to recover. With no wolf, we have to be careful about how much blood loss there is. They are starting to slow down on the blood transfusions and the doctor is going to come out and speak to you" she promised, but there was a strange look on her face, that made Xander and me glance at each other, suspecting there was something she was not saying. I could feel my body tensing in anticipation.

The nurse slid her eyes away from us, rushing down the corridor, while another came and relieved our Father of his blood, quickly handing him some food to help him recover his vitality.

"Something is wrong. Father hardly donated any blood in comparison to us" Xander concluded grimly, frowning at me as silently agreed with him.

"Maybe that's a good sign" my father objected, trying to remain positive for our sakes, "maybe that means they gave her enough and she's now recovering."

I had a sense that wasn't it. I glanced at Xander and saw the same doubtful expression on his face that mirrored mine. My father tried to force a smile on his face, attempting to look reassuring for our sakes but we remained grim-faced. The docte came wandering down the hallway, pulling off his surgeon's mask and looking pale. His gown was covered in blood, and both Xander and I could smell Regan's mixed in with ours all over him. I flinched and saw Father stand up hastily, while we did the same. I had a terrible sense of foreboding as I took in the expression on the doctor's face. He had not come to give good news. I hitched in a breath.

"Alphas" the doctor bowed his head, his expression grave "we have done all we can. I'm sorry to inform you that..."

"No" I blurted out, shaking my head in denial "No, she can't be dead. She saved my life, she can't be dead."

God no, I would have felt her if she died. I would have felt the mate bond disappear. Why hadn't I? He was lying!

My hand shot out and gripped him around the neck, shaking him as the doctor's eyes widened and he began to claw at me, my father trying to release my fingers "She can't be dead" I snarled, refusing to believe it.

"She's not dead Alpha" the doctor spluttered as I dropped him, looking hastily at my father in thanks "but she's also not recovering. If she had her wolf, she would no doubt be recovering nicely, but unfortunately that's not the case in this instance. She's too weak" he explained, touching the back of his neck and then looking at both of us with flattened lips "there is only one way that you might be able to save your mate from certain death" he finished tightly "but it means possibly going against her wishes."

I glanced at Xander and saw the same resolution on his face. Whatever it took, whatever it involved, we would stop at nothing to save our mate. We owed her. We loved her. Our wolves loved her.

"What do we have to do?" I asked, bracing myself for the answer.
