Chapter 105 Meeting
Chapter 105: Chapter 105 Meeting
"I know. I’m leaving, take care of yourself, wait for me to come over." He finished speaking and took her hand.
"Alright, you take care too. Don’t worry about me." Sun Chan laughed.
When Gu Junming turned his hand, she felt a coolness on her wrist, looked down and saw that it was a watch, identical to Gu Junming’s. She couldn’t help but smile, remembering how she had used the watch to make Zhao Xiuxia think she made money selling monkey-head mushrooms. She wanted to say something, but unfortunately Gu Junming had already walked away.
Sun Chan touched the watch, her heart filled with a sweet feeling, knowing when someone truly cares for another, it’s palpable. Knowing that Gu Junming was thinking of her, her heart was full of happiness, and even her steps on the way home became lighter.
In the afternoon, Sun Chan tidied up a bit, packed up some fruits, and continued pushing her cart to sell them. The business wasn’t great in the afternoon, with few buyers. Sun Chan wasn’t anxious, as she walked around the streets and alleys. Her voice was clear and crisp.
Almost every household had their doors open, drying autumn vegetables. This time, she paid attention to see if the other families had scrap metal, if they did, she would ask if they wanted to trade it for some fruits. Just like in the morning, many people were pleased. Fruits were rare back then, and scrap metal could easily be brought from work, but it was heavy, took up space, and didn’t sell well, not as much as wine bottles.
So Sun Chan’s business improved, pushing out dozens of pounds of fruit, and returning with a heavier load. The back seat of her cart was filled with iron wires and iron pieces.
Guihua had already returned, washing clothes in the yard. Seeing Sun Chan pushing her cart back, she was startled, wiped her hands on her pants, and quickly greeted her, "What are you doing with this? It’s so heavy, can your small frame handle it?"
Sun Chan giggled and said, "It’s fine! Just leave these iron pieces for now, they’re bound to rise in price."
Guihua didn’t mind the small money, "You sure know how to make deals. You’ve become a scrap collector."
"I’ll only do this once," Sun Chan thought to herself, once everyone knows these are going to rise in price, they won’t sell to her anymore.
Sun Chan helped Guihua finish washing the clothes and hung them in the yard, then went inside together. She had already cooked at her mother’s home, with leek boxes and some brought chili sauce, the taste was great.
The two just ate like that.
Guihua told Sun Chan, "I looked around a few places and none seemed right, a bit pricey. Tomorrow I’ll go check elsewhere, maybe near the train station. If not, the bus station."
"Alright, if you need my help, just say so." Sun Chan was also hungry, devouring several leek boxes.
Guihua was quite satisfied, smiling, "You, girl, seem easy to please. If I still had a brother, I’d introduce you to him. Wouldn’t it be nice to have you as a sister-in-law?"
"Don’t joke around, Guihua. I know nothing, you’re always helping me, sis."
Guihua noticed the watch on Sun Chan’s wrist, but didn’t mention it, changing the subject instead.
At night, when she was resting, she remembered she forgot to send a letter to Yang Liu, what a mess! She quickly took the envelope out, placed it by her pillow, planning to send it for sure the next day.
That afternoon, Gu Junming returned to the barracks, in high spirits. His feelings for Sun Chan had grown stronger. But his good mood ended at the barracks’ gate when he saw an uninvited guest.
Gu Junming’s brow immediately furrowed. It was Bai Fanglan. He disliked this woman; he was indifferent to her before, but now he was somewhat repulsed.
Bai Fanglan looked thinner, dressed in a beige trench coat, appearing very elegant and with poise.
But Gu Junming saw in her eyes a sort of indignation; he had rejected her, someone with good conditions, for a country girl, and she had never been happy about it. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have repeatedly shown animosity towards Sun Chan.
Seeing him, Bai Fanglan walked over with a smile, "Hello, long time no see, how have you been?" She tried to act dignified, but her voice shook; she was now engaged and hardly saw Gu Junming, but he was still doing well, proving she meant nothing to him.
Not acknowledging it at first, she now had no choice but to face reality.
Gu Junming replied coolly, "Pretty good. Is there something you need?"
"I actually heard you’re bringing your girlfriend home, so I came to ask. Is it true?" Bai Fanglan knew Gu Junming was direct, and talking nonsense would only make him more annoyed.
Gu Junming nodded, "Your information is quite up-to-date, was it Wang Hu who told you?"
"Not him, my grandfather knew. Anyway, we’ve grown up together, it’s inevitable I’d be concerned about your matters. Is it Sun Chan?" she forced a smile, questioning why she had to mention her in front of me?
Are you afraid I have any intentions towards you?
Gu Junming said, "Yes, it’s Sun Chan. I really like her and want to marry her. I always have to bring her to meet my parents." noveldrama
Although Bai Fanglan was mentally prepared, hearing him say it aloud, her heart ached. She bit her lip, clenched her fists, asking herself - why? What’s so good about her that makes you do this? Where am I inferior to this poor and lowly person?
But those words, Bai Fanglan couldn’t bring herself to ask, only showing a faint expression of worry.
"Is that so, but your parents won’t agree. Gu Junming, I know you’re not one to listen to advice, but I must say, you should give up. Think about it, what kind of person is Sun Chan? What kind of family are you from? How could they agree to this? This action will only humiliate Sun Chan."
Gu Junming smirked, looking at Bai Fanglan, "And? Are you suggesting I break up with her?"
"Prolonging the pain isn’t better than enduring it for a short time. Despite being from the countryside, Sun Chan isn’t simple-minded. I’ve noticed it many times, she gave up on her village suitor, clinging to your good prospects. She’s indeed a scheming person and will do anything to stay by your side this time! You really can’t continue like this, listen to me, it’s for your own good. We’ve known each other for years, would I lead you astray?"
Gu Junming’s heart was burning with anger. She was the one who revealed Sun Chan’s whereabouts yet spoke self-righteously! She almost got her killed, and now has the nerve to speak ill of her! Sun Chan, though, hadn’t said a word about her.
What do you think?
