Chapter 19
Morris beams a flirtatious smile at Evelyn.”I can’t believe that I will see my beautiful lady again, after the dinner date.”He rambles.
He winks at Jayden, giving him a look that probably says: “Look åsshole. You see, I’m still every woman’s dream.”
Jayden is burning in anger, he feels like throwing him out of the restaurant but he maintains his composure. He should not let the son of a bîtch get to him.
Evelyn stands up from her seat instantly and walks up to her crush.”Is it true that blue is my favorite color?”She asks.
Morris smirks.”Yes pretty. I love blue a lot.”
Her mouth opens slightly.”Wow! That means that we have the same thing in common. Blue is my favorite color.”
She continues asking her questions.”Are you really a fan of Colleen Hoover?”
Morris gazes at her in surprise.”Don’t tell me that you are a fan of her books.”
Her honey-brown eyes gleamed with surprise.”Of course. I am a fan of Colleen Hoover. I love all her books, especially CONFESS.”She says happily.
Jayden stares intensely at Morris and Evelyn as they continue to talk about what they have in common.
Somehow, he loves the conversation they are having. It is because of his benefits, he will be able to know what his secretary likes and enjoys doing. Another part of him doesn’t like the fact that Morris is the one having the conversation with her. He should be the one doing this with her, not the manwhore.
Jayden steals a glance at his wristwatch. It is getting late already, the time is almost 7pm.
It is understandable if he stops their conversation now.
He walks over to them.”I have to steal her from you, Morris. Let’s go, Evelyn.”He utters.
Evelyn’s eyelids drop.”We are discussing Colleen Hoover’s books. I hope this conversation won’t end.”
Jayden frowns, but it quickly disappears from his face.
“Follow Morris to his house then. Rubbish.”He blurts out.
“What do you mean, Jayden?”Morris asks.
Jayden ignores his question.”You can continue your conversation later. Do you want to sleep here, Evelyn?”
“I don’t mind. Just get me a bed and a pillow.”She mutters under her breath.
Morris faces her.”Save my contact. I will text you later.”
Jayden almost snatches Evelyn’s phone and smashes it on the floor, so that she won’t reply to Morris’s stupid texts. How are they able to exchange numbers quickly?
Evelyn waves at her crush and walks out of the restaurant, without waiting for Jayden.
“Why don’t you like Morris?”Evelyn breaks the silence on their way to her house.
“When did I mention disliking him?”Jayden mutters, stealing a glance at her through the rear mirror.
This time around, she has a smile on her face. Jayden guesses that the change in her mood is the effect of meeting Morris at the restaurant.
“You always have a frown on your face, anytime you see him. You just don’t vibe with him.”She rambles.
He shrugs.”I can’t be friends with everyone, Evelyn.”
“Try to be friends with him. Trust me, he is a nice and interesting person. You are going to like him.”
“Thank you. I am not a woman who has a crush on Morris Anthony. I am interested in being friends with him.”
She let out a loud hiss.”I even forgot that we had a misunderstanding. I will still give you the damn silent treatment.”
Jayden winks at her.”You just tried to convince me to be friends with your crush. Where is the silent treatment?”He whines.
“You said you will buy a cinema for me. I want it now.”
“The offer is gone, Evelyn Jones.”He laughs.

Jayden reaches Turner Mansion after a few minutes of dropping Evelyn at her house. He wishes that his mother will be asleep already, he doesn’t want her to disturb her about clueless Emily and any other girl.
Seems like God answers his prayers. The mansion is silent like a graveyard. Apart from the security guards and the maids, no one is awake.
He strides to his room. He almost shouts when he sees a figure lying on his king-sized bed.
“Idiot, what are you doing here?”He barks at Joe.
Joe is the one on his bed. Obviously, he entered Jayden’s room without his permission.
“Nothing. Where have you been, åsshole?”Joe asks his friend.
“I went for an impromptu meeting,” Jayden answers, ripping off his shirt.
Joe gazes at him suspiciously.”With who?”
Jayden throws him a glare. “My secretary, of course.”
He knows that Joe is about to say something silly because of the look he gives him.
“I see. I want to ask you a question and you must be sincere with the answer, Jayden.”
Jayden scoffs.”I don’t tell lies. Have I ever lied to you, dìckhead? What do you want to ask me?”
“Do you like your secretary?”Joe asks the one-million-dollar question.
Jayden takes a deep breath. He wears his t-shirt, then sits down on the chair in the corner of the room.
“As an employee? Yes.”He replies.
“Keep quiet, fool. You know I am not talking about that. Just reply to my damn question.”
“On a personal level? No.”Jayden replies bluntly.
Joe rests his head on the pillow, staring at the ceiling.”Skylar is back. She is in California.”
“Who is Skylar?”Jayden mumbles, pretending as if he doesn’t know the person his friend is talking about.
“Your ex.”
“Our ex.”Jayden corrects him.
He hates that Joe decides to make him remember his first love, after having a stressful day.
“That girl is a bïtch, honestly.”
“She is not a girl anymore. She is now a young lady.”Jayden corrects his friend again, his eyes not leaving the laptop in front of him.
Joe shook his head.” It was funny how she played with our feelings in school. She is a smart ass.”
“Let’s stop talking about her, Joe. We are also stupid for falling for her, anyway. I need to appreciate Skylar for teaching me not to fall in love with any girl.”
“All girls are bitches.”Joe mutters.
Jayden starts.”Except – ”
“Jayden’s Secretary, Evelyn Jones.”Joe interrupts him, choking with laughter.
“Keep quiet, fool.”Jayden snaps at him.
“Wait, why are you searching for Colleen Hoover’s books? I thought you hated reading stories.”Joe asks, glancing at the laptop in front of his friend.
Jayden shrugs.”None of your business.”
“Could it be that Evelyn’s favorite author is Colleen Hoover?”
“Keep quiet, åsshole.”Jayden barks.

Evelyn is about to drift to dreamland when her phone beeps.
She yawns lazily and picks up the phone from the bedside table.
Her eyes widened. The caller is her mother. It is unusual for her parents to call her, even though it has been a long time since they saw her. Why does her mother decide to call her tonight?
She takes a deep breath.”Mother.”
“Evelyn. How are you?”Her mom’s voice resounds in her ear.
Her mom didn’t let her reply before she continued.”Your cousin is back in California.”
Evelyn lifts her eyebrows. She knows that her mom didn’t call to check on her well-being.
“Which cousin?”She asks her mom.
“Skylar. Your Uncle Richard’s daughter.”
“So?”
“She will be staying with you for a while. Treat her nicely.”
“Okay.”
“Bye daughter. Take care of yourself.”Her mom hangs up the call.
Evelyn shut her eyes. Her life is messed up. She wishes that she has loving parents.
