“So, do you live here now?” Veronica asked with amazement. After a few weeks since Deasy got married, she decided to visit her friend for the first time after work.
Usually, they would meet at their favorite coffee shop, but this time Veronica intentionally went to Deasy’s new home, Lucas’s house.
She even brought Darwin along with her. When they arrived, Deasy immediately took them on a tour before finally sitting on the back terrace, not far from the swimming pool.
“Now that you’re married, you must be living with your husband, Ve,” Deasy replied casually.
“If you look at the house, you must be really comfortable, right? The facilities here are complete.”
Deasy nodded.
“Yeah, blessings for a righteous child. By accepting the trials of life, God has given me an extraordinary gift.”
“You’re so dramatic!” Darwin interjected, who had been observing quietly. “You act like you were the most oppressed person.”
“Oh, come on. So touchy,” Deasy pouted. For some reason, she always felt sensitive when she was around Darwin.
“Don’t complain, Des. I swear your child will be just like me, and then you’ll know how it feels.”
Deasy instinctively placed her hand on her slightly bulging stomach and began to whisper prayers repeatedly. “God forbid, a child like you, Win.”
Darwin raised an eyebrow, contorting his face and shaking his head. Was he really that bad that Deasy seemed frustrated at the thought of her child resembling him in the future?
“Why? What’s wrong? I’m handsome and dignified,” he argued, not taking it lightly. He couldn’t understand why Deasy had always disliked him. After all, she owed him her life and had a deep connection with him. Yet, to this day, she often seemed irritated and unfriendly.
“Yes, if the child looks handsome and dignified, that’s fine. But heaven forbid, if they have your wandering tendencies. That’s dangerous!”
Darwin sighed deeply. Despite his past mistakes, he had done many good things, but Deasy always brought up this issue.
“Come on, Des. I’m not a serial cheater. Even before we were arranged to be married, I already had a partner.”
“But after officially getting married, you should have broken up and focused on Veronica, who is your real wife. There was a diamond right in front of you, and you wasted it. If it weren’t for your repentance, I would have asked Sean to take Veronica abroad. So they could continue dating and then get married.”
“No way!” Darwin protested indignantly.
“Come on, Win. What was the point back then when Veronica loved you without being loved in return? You might as well have loved your intestines and drank Yakult every day.”
“Des!” Veronica exclaimed, feeling irritated as Deasy seemed to be advertising Yakult.
“I’m just stating the facts, right? It’s a pity how Veronica struggled alone for your marriage. You, on the other hand, were busy dating your vague ex, Win.”
“Deasy, that’s enough. Let’s not start this,” Veronica interjected once again.
Deasy sighed and then casually looked at Darwin, who appeared annoyed.
“Grouper, catfish. I apologize from the bottom of my heart. I didn’t mean to offend, Win. But if you feel that way, so be it.”
Darwin grew even more irritated, especially when the topic of Veronica’s ex, Sean, who was supposedly very handsome, came up. Deasy had always compared him to that seemingly perfect guy, and he was prepared to counter and protest. It was unfair how the conversation always revolved around infidelity and ultimately led to discussions about exes.
However, before he could respond, Veronica took control of the conversation. She probably knew that any debate involving her husband and her best friend would never end.
“Enough, you two are like cats and dogs. You always fight when you meet. It’s amazing!”
“Your husband always starts it,” Deasy quickly replied. Instead of blaming herself, she chose to respond first.
“Okay, that’s enough,” Veronica said again. “I came here to visit and discuss your life after marriage. Why are we talking about exes from the past? So, how’s Lucas? Has he been treating you well?”
Deasy nodded, not contradicting Veronica’s earlier statement at all.
“You can see for yourself, Ve. Even before it was official, his attitude towards me was already great. Now, it’s even better. He’s nothing like the guy next to you.”
Darwin, aware that he was being targeted, shot a sharp look, but before he could respond, Veronica signaled for him not to engage with Deasy’s sarcastic comments.
“Well, that’s good to hear. So, after officially becoming Mrs. Morales, are you planning to continue working?”
Deasy shook her head. After resigning from Qantum Tech and officially becoming Lucas’s wife, she hadn’t thought about returning to work. After some consideration, she decided it would be best to take a break while focusing on her pregnancy.
“I did think about going back to work initially. I was considering applying to your dad’s company, Ve, or to other foreign companies. But after discussing it with Lucas, he asked me to take a break and focus on my pregnancy. So, as a dutiful and exemplary wife, I agreed.”
“Yeah, that makes sense. Plus, there’s no need to stress about work. After all, your husband is quite wealthy.”NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.
“Don’t worry, no matter what, I’ll still be poorer than you, Ve.”
