Chapter 685
After picking Sean up, Nadine headed straight to the nearest hospital. She was aware that Adam would be extremely disappointed in her for choosing to end her unbearable marriage in such a way. Hence, guilt washed over her as soon as she walked out of the police station.
Even though Evelyn, Brad, and Gigi did not like her, Adam and Daniel did. No matter what happened in the past, they never blamed her. They always held Brad responsible, providing her with a sense of security. Unfortunately, she had let them down.
The moment Jean appeared, she should have ended her loveless marriage with Brad because she could no longer come up with excuses for why he didn't love her.
Every time he let her down, Nadine would find reasons and excuses for him, convincing herself that he wasn't intentionally hurting her, that he didn't mean to let her down. Every time they fought, she'd tell herself that she was going to give Brad one more chance, hoping he would reciprocate her love. Yet, her hopes were never met.
As the desperate pleas from her brain dwindled, she eventually gave up. In the end, she felt like she was drowning, sinking into her unfulfilled hopes like a stagnant pool of water.
When her hope finally withered, so did her love for Brad. Her heart slowly died, bit by bit. Now, she had lost the ability to love. All she wanted was to end this suffocating marriage as quickly as possible, to escape the dark, oppressive cage she was trapped in.
When she reached the door of the emergency room, Daniel was still there, standing next to Gigi. As soon as she saw Nadine, Gigi's temper flared and she was about to lash out at her. However, when she noticed the exhausted look on her father's face, she held herself back and instead asked coldly, "What are you doing here? Haven't you done enough?"
She had heard about what happened to Brad, and aside from resending Nadine
for her heartlessness, she loathed Jean even more. If Jean hadn't stirred up so
much trouble, their family wouldn't be in this situation.
Gigi's hostility had no effect on Nadine. In her eyes, Gigi was as good as dead, and there was no point in arguing with the dead. She came to a halt in front of Daniel, whose complexion was pallid, and apologized.
"I'm sorry for letting you down this time, Daniel. But please believe me, I only wantnoveldrama
a divorce. I never intended to hurt your family."
Sean followed suit. "My mommy and
I are both sorry, Grandpa Daniel. Please forgive her." The little guy had no idea what was going on. He only knew that his mother was in a bad mood and that they were in a hospital.
Daniel seemed to have aged over two decades in a heartbeat, standing there hunched over. His eyes were red and puffy as she looked at Nadine. He parted his lips, but he couldn't utter a word for a long while.
How could he not feel for Nadine? In this loveless marriage, she was the real victim. Neglected and ignored by Brad, she had struggled in a dead-end relationship. How could her heart not be heavy with sorrow?
What do you think?
