Chapter 317: Hand-in-hand
Chapter 317: Hand-in-hand
Cammy stepped out of the car with a heart so full it could burst. The booming beat of party music filled the air as they pulled up to the main entrance, making her grin instantly. Laughter and chatter buzzed in the background, echoing from the backyard.
Edward and Andrea were already waiting to greet them, standing tall and excited.
"All the guests have arrived, Madam," Andrea said cheerfully as she helped Cammy out of the car. "They’re all gathered in the back garden."
Cammy gave her a teasing smirk. "I just hope those two troublemakers didn’t turn the house upside down while we were gone."
Greg rounded the car, reaching for Dylan’s hand, full of energy and excitement. "Alright, you two," he said with a grin, "ready for your big welcome-home bash and the baby’s gender reveal?"
Cammy and Dylan exchanged an excited look and nodded at the same time, grinning like partners in a surprise mission.
Hand-in-hand, the little family walked toward the backyard, where bursts of blue and pink filled the space in playful swirls. Balloons bobbed in the breeze, baby animals in party hats decorated the jungle-themed setup, and long tables were filled with food and gifts.
"Dylan!" two familiar voices squealed in harmony. noveldrama
Cassie and Cole came sprinting toward him, arms wide. "Welcome home!" they chorused before grabbing Dylan and pulling him straight into their group—completely ignoring the adults in classic kid fashion.
Meanwhile, the ladies—Grace, Eve, Ellie, and a few more—flocked toward Cammy like a wave of warm hugs and glowing smiles.
"There she is! The glowing mommy!"
"Look at you, beautiful and radiant!"
"Congratulations!"
Cammy laughed as they enveloped her with affection, her cheeks aching from smiling so much.
"I missed this," she said honestly, her voice light with joy.
And just like that, surrounded by love, laughter, and celebration, Cammy finally felt like she was home—not just in a house, but in the life she had fought so hard to rebuild.
The party hit its full swing when Ellie and Eve clapped their hands to get everyone’s attention.
"Alright, everyone!" Ellie shouted with a gleeful sparkle in her eyes. "Let’s make this baby shower extra memorable with a few fun games!"
"Oh no," Greg muttered playfully, earning a nudge from Cammy.
"You’re not getting out of this," she teased with a smirk.
Eve pointed toward the lawn. "We’ve set up a little competition. Girls versus boys. Let’s see who knows more about babies and who’s got faster reflexes!"
Jenna, Lia, Hannah, and Grace stood tall and confident on one side of the lawn, while Harry, Ethan, Roger, and Ark formed a competitive huddle on the other.
The first game? Diaper Relay.
Each team had to diaper a baby doll—blindfolded.
Everyone burst into laughter as Ethan accidentally diapered the doll’s head and Roger got tangled in the baby wipes. Grace, surprisingly fast, nailed her turn and tossed the doll in the air triumphantly like a football.
Next came the "Guess the Baby Food" challenge. Each contestant had to sample mystery jars and guess the flavor. Ark gagged dramatically after one spoonful—"What is that, mashed sadness?!"—while Hannah casually nailed every flavor like a pro.
After a few more hilarious rounds, including a tug-of-war using baby blankets and a bottle-chugging race (with milk, of course), Ellie raised both hands. "Alright! I declare the girls the champions of the Cammy Baby Shower Games!"
Everyone cheered and laughed, sweaty and breathless from the games. Then came the much-anticipated dinner, a spread of Cammy’s favorites—baked salmon, truffle pasta, grilled vegetables, and a dessert table that could make anyone weak in the knees.
Once everyone was full and happy, Ellie once again gathered the crowd. "Now, it’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for..."
Greg rolled up his sleeves dramatically. "Time to meet the baby... via cake."
Cammy laughed and picked up the knife with him. "Let’s do this together."
As they sliced through the cake, the entire party held their breath. The knife glided through, and when Greg pulled the slice out—
"Blue!" Eve shouted. "It’s a boy!!"
Cheers erupted, and in perfect coordination, everyone pulled the strings on their party poppers. A cascade of blue confetti burst into the air like a glittering rain of joy.
"Congratulations!" guests shouted in unison, clapping and hugging the couple.
Dylan, still holding his cupcake, squealed. "I’m getting a baby brother!"
Cammy’s eyes welled with happy tears as she looked around. Greg wrapped an arm around her, kissing her temple.
"I guess our little prince is on his way," he whispered.
And with laughter echoing, music playing, and confetti falling all around, the moment couldn’t have been more perfect.
The party gradually began to wind down.
Guests hugged and kissed Cammy and Greg goodbye, offering their well-wishes and congratulations once again before heading out. Ellie and Eve helped pack the last of the leftovers, while Andrea and Edward guided cars out of the driveway.
Dylan, who had played nonstop with Cassie and Cole, finally collapsed in the middle of the tent they’d turned into a fortress of pillows, plush toys, and glow-in-the-dark stars.
Greg chuckled quietly as he crouched down and gently scooped the sleeping boy. Dylan stirred for a moment, sighed contentedly, and nestled his cheek against Greg’s shoulder.
"Looks like someone had the best day ever," Greg whispered as he carried him inside the house.
He pushed open Dylan’s bedroom door with his shoulder, laid the little boy down, and tucked him beneath his dinosaur-print sheets. Greg smiled at the soft snores coming from the small bundle and placed a gentle kiss on Dylan’s forehead before turning off the lights.
He walked quietly down the hall and into their bedroom, where he found Cammy already in bed, her hair still damp and fanned out against the pillows. She wore one of Greg’s loose shirts and had the blanket pulled halfway up her legs, one hand resting over her softly growing belly.
"You’re back," she said, smiling lazily as he walked in.
"Out like a light," Greg replied. "He didn’t even make it to dessert."
Cammy chuckled softly. "I don’t blame him. I feel like I could sleep for a year."
Greg stepped into the bathroom. "Give me two minutes. I’m sticky with party sweat."
"Clock’s ticking," she teased.
He returned not long after, hair damp and towel slung around his neck, wearing a clean shirt and boxers. The moment he slid under the covers, Cammy shifted toward him, letting her head rest against his chest as his arm wrapped naturally around her.
"I loved everything about today," Cammy whispered against his chest.
Greg kissed the top of her head. "It was perfect. And tomorrow will be even better."
Cammy grinned and said, "But we can still add more fun tonight, right? I mean, we still have a few hours left before midnight."
Greg sat up and faced Cammy. "Alright, I still have energy left. What do you have in mind?"
Cammy smirked, and the mischievous look in her eyes made Greg’s head tilt. "Good, because you’ll be needing that energy, Mr. Cross." Cammy didn’t break her gaze with Greg as she removed her shirt, showing Greg that she was not wearing anything underneath.
