Read My Past is Just Prologue By Louisa Dillon Chapter 51 – The Reason
At this time, Janet, who had returned to the room, was sitting in front of the dressing table, staring
at the photo on the table
in a daze.
The
photo was placed in the most conspicuous place on the table. It was neat, and because of frequent tou
ching and wiping,
there was no dust on it.
“Dad…”
Janet sighed with pain in her eyes.
There was a happy family in the photo. It was taken when her father gifted her a small zoo
on her seventh birthday.
She was young, and her father held her in his arms while her mother snuggled up to them. The family o
f three all wore bright
smiles. Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
There was also a small deer next to it. That small deer was sent to the Smedley family’s garden ten
years ago, and it should be
much taller than a human by now.
Putting the photo into her arms, Janet seemed determined. “Dad, don’t worry. I will definitely take back
your favorite set of
bowls!”
“No matter how much it costs, I will take it back!”
She slept restlessly at night, and when she woke up the next day, Janet was in low spirits.
Looking at herself in the mirror, she called a make–up artist.
She was already gorgeous. With just a bit of makeup, she would look stunning.
But at this time, she didn’t want to show anything inappropriate in front of Nathaniel, so she asked a pro
fessional to help her. As a result, she became even more stunning and attracted countless attention on
her way to the Webster Group.
“Are you Ms. Longfellow of the Longfellow Group?”
Stepping into the lobby on the first floor of the Webster Group, a well–dressed woman in her
thirties walked up to Janet with a gentle expression. Her eyes flashed with amazement, and she praise
d, “You are so beautiful!”
Nathaniel occasionally handled business matters at home, so Janet recognized the woman in front of hi
m as Nathaniel’s
secretary.
But the secretary didn’t know that she was Nathaniel’s wife.
How ridiculous?
As Nathaniel’s secretary for many years, she had never met her boss’s wife. It could be seen that Nath
aniel had never
mentioned her on any occasion.
“Thank you. I am Ms. Longfellow.” Janet nodded lightly.
Janet embarrassed Nathaniel so much when he visited the Longfellow Group,
so she felt that Nathaniel would not let her see him easily today.
However, to Janet’s surprise, Nathaniel did not arrange for a secretary to embarrass her. On the contra
ry, Leila was very polite to her.
Even if she
was leading the way, Leila had always been very careful. She always leaned sideways, about a step a
way from Janet.
“Mr. Webster knew that you had never been to the Webster Group and was worried you would get lost,
so he asked me to show you the way.”
Why did everything go on so smoothly?
Janet’s eyes narrowed slightly. She always felt that something was wrong.
Leila smiled. “Mr. Webster told me he didn’t enjoy his stay at the Longfellow Group. Therefore, he want
s you to feel at home when you come here.”
Janet lost her words.
Janet smiled. It turned out that Nathaniel was mocking her.
When they arrived at the door of the president’s office, Leila knocked on the door thoughtfully. After Nat
haniel let them come in, she left respectfully.
Janet walked in and saw the man’s
profile at a glance. He was concentrating on reading documents, and his shirt sleeves were rolled up to
his elbows, revealing a nice forearm.
Janet looked away. “Mr. Webster, what condition do you have? Can you say it now?”
Janet’s voice was full of alienation as if the two had never met before. They seemed like two
collaborators who had just met today.
Nathaniel frowned and put down his pen. Then, he took a sip of his coffee.
He looked up. “Why do you have to ask for this set of bowls? I don’t know you also collect antiques.”
Nathaniel leaned on his chair, squinting at the woman seated. His tone was indifferent.
Hearing Nathaniel’s question, Janet was silent for a few seconds. She leaned back and looked at Nath
aniel coldly. “Do you know me well? You can’t tell my preference just because you don’t know.”
Janet’s tone was a little aggressive.
Hearing Janet’s sarcastic tone, Nathaniel felt a little uncomfortable.
But he didn’t show it. His tone was still as calm as ever as he smiled slightly. “It’s just a matter of fact. J
anet, you want something from me, but you speak so harshly. Don’t you afraid that I won’t give it to you
?”
She lied to get married to
him, and she concealed her identity for years. She was a liar and even humiliated him.
Why did it seem like he bullied her now?
Janet pursed her lips. “I know you’re not this kind of man. You
won’t break your words just because I spoke harshly. I don’t have much time today. Tell
me what you want.”
She didn’t want to talk too much with Nathaniel.
During the time she and Nathaniel were divorced, she communicated with him more
than they did in a year when they were husband and wife.
Janet was afraid that if she said a little more, her defenses that had been built up with great difficulty w
ould collapse.
Nathaniel glanced at her unexpectedly
and brought out the set of small bowls that Janet loved so much from the cabinet under the desk. It wa
s still in the same package. Obviously, after Nathaniel bought it back, he didn’t open it at all.
He put it on the table and said softly, “I’m not short of money, so tell me your reason, and I’ll give it to y
ou.”
“You… Since you were curious, you could have opened it and studied it. Maybe there is a treasure map
engraved on it!”
Janet couldn’t help but bother him. She felt very depressed.
The more she talked, the more she felt aggrieved.
Nathaniel didn’t speak but stared at her.
Janet took a deep breath, calmed herself down, looked up at Nathaniel, and said seriously
and stubbornly, “This set of bowls was my father’s favorite item. It is full of my memory of my father, so
I want to buy it back.”
It belonged to her father?
Nathaniel lightly stroked the wooden table in front of him and had a strange feeling in his heart.
