My Mute Wife

Chapter 82 No Need to Stay Back

The white car sped past on the mountain road.

The windshield wipers rise and fall in a curtain of rain, and the four eyes met through the glass for just a moment.

Myles clearly saw that the person in the car was Lexie, but instead of stopping, she drove straight past.

Realizing that something was wrong, Myles immediately drove after her.

East Coast State Highway is the road with the fewest cars in J City, and even fewer cars on a stormy day, but Lexie’s heart was still hanging in her throat, especially after overtaking three cars in a row and getting soaked to the skin.

“Are you now in East Coast State Highway?”

“The police are already evacuating road traffic, so turn on your cruise mode, protect yourself and be prepared for a crash.”

Crash?

Lexie’s face went white as countless images of car wrecks swept through her mind.

“Don’t be afraid, it’ll be fine, drive a bit more and you’ll see the container of the truck stop in the middle of the road and crash straight through, the airbags will pop out first, that’s all you can do now.”

The man in the video had a calm, sure gaze.

Lexie nodded through clenched teeth.

It was the only way to go now.

She did not know how long she drove, but there were fewer and fewer cars on the road, until there was only a crazy rainstorm, and only one car left on the empty road, driven by Lexie, whose hands were already all sweaty and she could barely hold the steering wheel.

In the distance, a blue container truck stopped in the middle of the road.

With a loud bang, the front of the white car crashed hard into the side of the container.

Smoke and dust rolled as the engine caught fire and burned brighter and brighter.

The scene was happening in front of Myles’s eyes when he arrived.

And at that moment, a black car overtook him from behind and came to a stop across the road with a sharp braking sound, and the man got out and sprinted over, smashing the window.

“Lexie!”

The rain was pouring down, and through the windscreen, Myles saw Alan roaring for people to put out the fire and demolish the car.

At the moment of the crash, the airbag quickly popped out and lunged towards Lexie’s face. She felt as if all her bones had been washed away by the airflow, and the upper half of her body sank into the airbag, making it difficult for her to breathe.

The car shuddered violently before quickly coming to a halt, buzzing in its ears.

The sound of a smashing window broke through the blankness of her brain and hit her eardrums, pulling back her nerves, and when she looked up, she saw only a familiar face, not quite clear through the window and the rain.

The accident site was quickly cordoned off and the sounds of fire engines and ambulances were heard.

In the hospital emergency.

Alan’s expression was cold, and his fists were clenched to death, his veins rippling.

“She has a slight concussion, have some rest and she’ll be fine.”

When the doctor’s words fell, Alan’s face only improved slightly.

When the doctor had left, Alan asked Jack

“Where is Tina now?”

“She’s gone on a cruise dinner with a bunch of friends.”

A cold light swept through Alan’s dark eyes as he said coldly, “She sought her own death, so there’s no need to be mercy to her.”

“Mr. Alan, Tina is your cousin …”

Jack had not finished his words when his gaze suddenly touched Alan’s icy cold eyes and he jerked.

Throughout the night, Lexie threw up an unknown number of times.

The nurse was in and out frequently with the basin.

Alan looked extremely pale, “Didn’t you say she is fine? Why is she throwing up like this?”

The nurse had a frightened look on her face, “It’s normal to vomit as an after-effect of a concussion, when the brain is out of balance.”

[I’m fine.]

On the hospital bed, Lexie had a weak face.

It was a fluke that she survived, so it was ok to vomit up.

“Are you okay?”

Lexie shook her head and threw up so much that she barely had the strength to respond.

[I’m tired and want to take a nap].

“Okay,” Alan tucked her in, his big hands patting gently on the sheets.

Looking at the scene, Lexie always felt that it was unreal.

But she was so sleepy that she could barely keep her eyelids open, and it wasn’t long before she drifted off to sleep.

Early the following morning.

After waking up from a good night’s sleep, Lexie’s body recovered a bit.

Jack came in carrying a large bag, “Mr. Alan, Mrs. Howard, breakfast is here.”

Lexie leaned back against the bed, looking at the bags of breakfast that placed on entire dining table, incredulous.

[Why did you buy so many?]

“Mr. Alan ordered it, saying that he didn’t know what you like to eat, so he bought some of everything, and that he would buy what you like later.”

There came the sound of Alan coughing from one side.

Lexie was still in a daze when the small table on the hospital bed had been pushed up.

“What would you like to eat, Mrs. Howard? There’s soy milk and doughnuts, sandwiches and coffee, cake dough and spuds, and cold cakes …”

Jack counted the things he bought, not knowing what came to his mind, he suddenly smiled, “That, let Mr. Alan help you choose, I suddenly remembered that the company still has something to do, I’ll leave first.”

Alan coughed dryly twice, “What do you like?”

Lexie was stunned, and after returning to her senses, she casually pointed at it randomly.

[Just that one.]

The millet congee and buns, famous in J City, which tasted good.

[You eat too.]

Alan nodded slightly and took a cup of coffee, “Didn’t I tell you to pick you up yesterday? Why did you drive yourself down the hill?”

[I drove there, I couldn’t just leave my car there].

“It’s just a car, it won’t disappear if you leave it at the resort, do you know that even without brake failure, it’s easy to have an accident in that heavy rainstorm?”

Hearing that, Lexie was startled.

Alan frowned, “Don’t do such dangerous things in the future.”

Lexie nodded nervously.

Thinking of his anxious look all the way through yesterday afternoon, she couldn’t help but feel mixed emotions.

Alan had always been a man of few words, with little expression on his face, but on that journey yesterday, his voice echoed throughout the carriage, almost without interruption.

She could feel that he was anxious, but tried desperately to hold back and soothe her.

A knock came at the door.

“Hello,” the familiar voice fell on Lexie’s ears and she jerked her head up with a start.

Flora stood at the door and nodded towards Lexie before looking at Alan, “I’m a friend of Lexie’s, I heard she was hospitalised so I came to take a look.”Belongs to © n0velDrama.Org.

Alan’s eyes, however, went dark.

That day in the old town, he had seen Flora, standing next to Lexie with that man.

“Mr. Alan, right?”

“Yes, hello.”

“Flora Miller.”

“You guys talk,” Alan did not ask more questions and simply stood up.

But Flora shrugged and said airily, “I’m not here for her, I’m here for you, Mr. Alan.”

Lexie’s heart stuttered and she looked at Flora in surprise.

Alan also showed a puzzled look.

In the corridor, Flora showed her documents directly, “Sorry to disturb you at the hospital, I am here to ask you for confirmation of something, I knew Lexie before, and it was because of this matter.”

The words ‘Deputy Director of the Investigation Bureau’ were clearly printed on Flora’s document.

“What is it?”

“It is about the smuggling of drugs by the Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group.”

At those words, Alan’s gaze sank abruptly.
