Chapter 136 We will have children again
Shortly after Patrick left, Lexie heard the doorbell.
She thought Patrick had left something behind and went to open the door before she saw the delivery boy.
“Is it Miss Lexie?”
Lexie nodded her head.
“Here are two express packages for you, you sign for them.”
Lexie froze, signed for it and then took a cake and a handbag from her little brother.
There is still half an uneaten cake on the table at home, that Patrick learned of his birthday and ran out in a hurry to order it at noon.
Who ordered this courier boy to deliver it?
Lexie places the cake on the table and takes a rectangular suede box out of her handbag.
“The box opened with a bang, revealing a silver necklace that glistened in the light.
The pendant is simple, in the shape of a small openwork sun.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Lexie put the box down and found the card on the cake, unsigned just ‘Happy Birthday’.
The phone suddenly vibrated while I was lost in thought.
Kevin texted, “Did you get the stuff?”
Lexie immediately understood, “Got it, I was wondering who remembered my birthday.”
“Don’t forget you’re my patient, so it’s not surprising that I remember your birthday, right?”
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome, are you free at the moment? I just got off work, let’s take a walk downstairs.”
Lexie glanced at the clock, “Good.”
The neighborhood was bustling, it was just after dinner out for a walk, all the lights were on, and the sound of children running around happily was everywhere.
Lexie put the cake on the stone table and unwrapped it, and without her greeting, a large number of children gathered around, each looking at the cake with bated breath.
“Auntie, this cake looks good on you!”
Lexie made a gesture of waiting and grabbed a knife and fork and a disposable plate, ready to cut up and share with the kids.
“Lexie, wait a minute.”
Kevin, however, stopped her and took the candles out from a box aside, “Auntie invited the children to eat cake, what should the children do ah, today is auntie’s birthday oh.”
The little girl at the head of the group, with two dreadlocks, immediately said, “Happy birthday to your aunt!”
“To sing the Happy Birthday song!”
“And let auntie make a wish with her eyes closed!”
“To blow out the candles!”
Lexie shook her head and gestured to Kevin that she didn’t have to go to all that trouble.
Kevin still lit the candles and the children gathered around sang the Happy Birthday song in unison, the children’s voices coming together with a healing effect.
“Make a wish.”
[Not used.]
“Auntie, you have to make a wish on your birthday oh, my mom said birthday wishes can’t be said, you have to think about it in your heart so it can come true.”
A milky voice came from Lexie’s side.
She looked down, only to see a little girl less than table height is tilting her head to talk to her, a pair of eyes like black grapes as beautiful and clean.
Lexie’s eyes were immediately much softer, and with the children’s eyes watching, she clasped her hands and silently made a wish in her heart, then blew out the candles and gave the children their cakes.
“Don’t thank your aunt yet.”
The parents next to them teach their own children to say thank you.
The children ran wild with disposable cake plates, smearing cream on each other’s faces, and it was as if strangers in the neighborhood were brought closer together for a moment and became very warm.
Under the streetlight, a smile finally appeared on Lexie’s face after many days.
[Kevin, thank you.]
“No need to be so polite with me.”
Kevin sent Lexie downstairs, “The most important thing for you to do now is to adjust your emotions and your body, don’t think much about anything else.”
“You have to think outside the box about children …”
I know, you don’t have to worry about me, I didn’t intend to have that child, let’s pretend that he never came.
Lexie’s look was bleak.
Kevin some regret mentioning the child, the conversation turned, “go up, the recent cooling, cold you have to pay attention to keep warm.”
Lexie nodded and turned to get into the building elevator.
When she arrived home, she was about to close the door.
“Bang”, the door was a large hand from the outside against.
Lexie jerked her head up and winced when she saw Alan’s grim face, set off by the centipede-like scar on his face that grew more and more hideous and frightening.
Didn’t he go on a business trip?
Alan sidled into the room, closed the door behind him, and coldly looked the room around, “You really seem to be doing quite well without me.”
Lexie took two steps back, her face pale.
[What brings you here?
Alan a sullen face, while walking towards Lexie, while ripping off the tie, casually thrown on the sofa, cold sharp pair of eyes as if two icebergs can not be melted.
“You’d hate for me to come and ruin your cozy day, wouldn’t you?”
When Alan steps closer, Lexie steps back.
She didn’t know what she had done wrong again.
Alan grabbed her hand and she stumbled, actually tugging Alan and her to crash into the couch, the man’s weight pressing down on her, making her grunt out.
The moment she reacted, she immediately struggled.
Alan, however, pinned her down and couldn’t move, his cold voice echoing in her ears, “Never intended to have this child from the beginning, did you?”
Lexie winced.
Could it be that Alan had been following when he and Kevin were walking and talking?
At this moment, Alan’s eyes are monstrous anger.
“I told you to stay in peace and quiet, and this is how you stay with me?”
He drove seven or eight hours back from L City to spend her birthday with her, and to ease the tension between the two, to tell her there was a long term future.
But he didn’t expect to see Lexie and Kevin surrounded by a group of kids singing just as they entered the neighborhood.
The scene was warm and harsh.
If seeing the scene was merely eye-opening, then Lexie’s later reply to Kevin’s words about the child was heartbreaking.
This woman never even thought about keeping the baby.
Thinking about it, Alan’s hand slowly used force.
Lexie’s shoulder tightened, hitting her with a shattering pain that twisted her pretty features into a ball.
Let go of me, let go of me!
She struggled desperately, but was rewarded with more vigorous shackling.
A hell-like echo came from overhead, “When those people broke into the villa and caused you to miscarry, did you actually feel very happy in your heart?”
Lexie’s pupils contracted violently, unable to believe what she was hearing.
Alan’s eyes were filled with intense anger, “You think you can have nothing to do with me because this child is gone, right? I’m telling you Lexie, you’re delusional!”
“Sting,” Lexie screamed, the fabric on her shoulder having been torn.
Alan grabbed her struggling hands and pressed them above her head, saying coldly, “I told you, we’ll have children again!”
Lexie’s face was ashen.
No, don’t!
