My Mommy Is A CEO

Chapter 37 You’re Dead Meat, Lucia!

The next day at work, Lucia went to Eduard to apologize for what happened last night. After all, she accompanied him to the party for business, but she left because of personal affairs. She felt that she had failed in her duty.

For Lucia’s apology, Eduard seemed polite but secretly felt lost. “It’s okay. On the contrary, if you’re in a bad mood, you can just rest at home.”

“What happened last night didn’t bother me.” Lucia smiled and said. After seeing Arthur’s confession, she felt like smiling at the thought of it. “I’m sorry, but if Jacob and the company turn against each other, I will take care of it.”NôvelDrama.Org © content.

Because Jacob was so narrow-minded, and he was humiliated in front of Lucia last night, Lucia guessed that he might include Eduard and Jibillion Inc as his enemies, which was the last thing Lucia wanted to see.

“He’ll do the same even without you. Do you remember why your predecessor quit?” A wicked man took a wicked path, and he did not care who he met on that path, so long as it was profitable. Eduard did have the same concerns as Lucia. “You can rest assured that Jibillion Inc is not something Jacob can move.”

Lucia, knowing that he was trying to reassure herself, smiled and nodded. She wondered if Poppy had heard of what had happened last night.

While Lucia was thinking this, Poppy’s flight returned to Athegate. When she got off the plane, she drove straight to the office.

On the plane, Poppy received a message from her friends that Jacob was seen grabbing a woman at Mr. Kaur’s birthday party last night, and arguing with Arthur, director of Davonnis Corp, and Eduard, president of Jibillion Inc. Poppy’s heart skipped a beat.

Jacob!

Poppy’s heart burned with anger. When she entered the company, she looked very unhappy. All the employees who met her bowed their heads, afraid that they might accidentally offend the hot-tempered Mrs. Taylor.

“Jacob!” When she arrived at Jacob’s office door, Poppy threw it open and angrily called Jacob by his name. Jacob, who is in the middle of a business meeting with a client, was embarrassed to see Poppy come storming in.

“Poppy, hey, you’re back!” Jacob guessed that Poppy had known about what had happened. But now that there were outsiders around, he hinted in a gentle tone that Poppy should temper herself.

Poppy, however, was so angry that she went over to the two men and stared at Jacob.

The client was so embarrassed that he smiled and got up to leave. Jacob had no choice but to escort him out first. After the client had left, and the door had just closed, he looked angry, too, and stared at Poppy.

“Poppy, aren’t you too grumpy? Can’t you show me some respect in front of outsiders?”

“Respect? Why should I? Just think about what you have done last night!” Poppy crossed her arms over her chest, and her red fingernails were like the anger burning in her heart. She asked Jacob with a sneer.

Jacob’s face darkened when he heard that.

“You were the one who told me to stay away from Lucia, and you were the one who pestered her on that occasion last night. Jacob, good for you.” Poppy was not afraid of the cold look in Jacob’s eyes, for she was even colder!

As soon as Jacob heard Poppy’s old story, he cleverly hid his disapproval and spoke in his usual helpless voice, “I did meet Lucia last night, but I didn’t badger her. Who did you hear that from?”

“It doesn’t matter who I heard it from. Just tell me if it happened!” Poppy’s voice dropped when Jacob softened it.

“You have to sit down.” After years of spending time with Poppy, Jacob had a way of keeping her down. He first asked her to sit beside him, and when she was ready, he continued.

“I did run into Lucia last night, but I didn’t take the initiative to talk to her. As soon as Lucia saw me, she began to question me about what I had done. I had to explain myself to her. But Arthur and Eduard showed up at that moment, and that’s why people notice us. You think I’d be stupid enough to go after her?”

Jacob was a master at turning right from wrong.

Poppy looked into Jacob’s eyes as he explained. What he said seemed to make sense, but she knew something was wrong.

Seeing that Poppy was still unhappy, Jacob made a helpless look and said, “If you had been there last night, I wouldn’t have been so humiliated by Arthur and Eduard.”

Poppy was still angry, but she looked better. She looked down at Jacob with an “I told you so” look.

“I told you to nip it in the bud, and it was no accident that she came home. If we had hit her at first, she would have run away again by now.”

Poppy said, with a great deal of jealousy. She didn’t expect Lucia to turn to Arthur and Eduard for support.

The mention of these two men was likely to thrill even married women. When Poppy went out with the ladies, what she heard most was their love for them. Especially when it came to Arthur, love would appear in every woman’s eyes.

Bah!

Poppy spit bitterly in her heart, jealous and speechless.

Jacob said something back to Poppy, and had to change his mind. Last night, he already had a confrontation with Arthur and Eduard because of Lucia. If they were going after him, if they were even working together, JTP Group wasn’t necessarily a match for them, so Jacob wanted to make a move first.

“Poppy, we can’t just sit here and wait.”

“I’ve been waiting for you to say that…” Poppy looked down at Jacob with a smug wink, her eyes full of intrigue.

Before Jacob could reassure her, Poppy hurried back to her office and spent most of the morning making phone calls. By noon, she had everything in order.

With a smug look, Poppy rapped the table with her five fingers. “You’re dead meat, Lucia.”

The next day, the same headline appeared in all the Athegate gossip magazines, tidbits, and even some of the small financial magazines desperate for a boost. The wording was different but the content was the same.
