Chapter 27

Chapter 27

Alex spared no glance at Candice. He took Sonia’s purse for her and sald coldly, “Beats me. Let’s just

bring the stuff up first.”

He lett Wing City last night and parted with Candice on bad terms, so he was not in the mood to talk to

her.

Sonia hummed. She was obviously tired. She said, “Candice, my father has just completed his

operation this morning and he’s still in the ICU. No visitors allowed.”

Candice looked at them with slightly narrowed eyes and explained, “I’m going to the nursing home.”

Sonia was embarrassed when she heard Candice. “Oh, I’m sorry.”

Candice then walked past them and headed to the nursing home.

A few steps later, she heard Sonia grumbling to Alex. “That was so embarrassing! Why didn’t you tell

me!”

Alex whispered something to the girl but Candice could not hear this time.

The couple went into the hospital with a few bags in their hands.

Candice would visit the nursing home once a month, but she got so busy lately that she had not visited

for two months.

Candice’s grandfather, Joe Sundance, was a retired teacher.

When she arrived, the old man was reading a newspaper under the tree with a pair of glasses hanging

over his nose.

When Joe saw her, he removed his glasses smiled, and said, “You’re here.”

Candice gave him the cake she bought. “I brought you some cake I got from La Pastiere.”

“Candice, you are not much of a talker but you really remember everything.” he said as he laughed.

Joe looked like a kind old man who loved to joke.

He then looked at his granddaughter and asked, “Where’s Alex? Too busy?”

Candice and Alex started off their relationship on good terms and Alex would occasionally come along

with her to visit her grandfather at the nursing home.

Elderlies like Joe were never complicated. He had always thought Alex was Candice’s boyfriend, so

even when Alex stopped coming, the old man would often ask about him.

As usual, Candice said, “He’s busy working.”

She had used this excuse many times but Joe believed her every time.

“It’s good that he’s busy. He’s still young and he should focus on his career.” Joe sighed and added,

“Don’t be like me, an old man with nothing to do.”

“You actually can have something to do. The director told me that the teachers from the local Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

elementary school often asked you to help with their students‘ homework,” Candice said as she

squatted beside him.

Candice stayed at the nursing home for around two hours before she left. When she returned to the

parking lot, Alex’s car was still t

She looked up at the hospital with a complicated gaze, wondering if Alex still remembered that he used

to accompany her to visit her grandfather at the nursing home.

The news of Sonia’s father getting into a car crash spread in the company.

Sonia was barely herself for days and no one dared to offend her.

“Candice.” another intern from the Secretary’s Office called out.

Candice looked up and saw a hesitant–looking girl holding a document.

She asked, “What Is It?”

there.

“This document is wrong. The format and the data are all wrong. It’s done by Sonia,” the intern said

worriedly.

Candice understood it right away.

Everyone in the company knew Alex was behind Sonia, so no one dared to give the girl a hard time, let

alone a mere intern.

Candice took the document and said, “I’ll take it to her.”

The intern felt relieved and immediately returned to her desk.

Candice headed to the Secretary’s Office.

She skipped the chatters and put the document on Sonia’s desk. “The format and data are wrong. Take

a look and amend.”

As soon as her words subsided, Sonia’s eyes turned watery and tears immediately dripped from her

eyes as it Candice just scolded or

bullied her.
