Chapter 849
Ava wiped away her tears again, "I'll go whip up some nourishing soup for the missus. It'll at least help her regain some strength."
Before they knew it, the sun had quietly dipped below the horizon, and the night had settled in.
Everett glanced over at Callum, "Want to stick around for dinner?"
Callum gave a slight shake of his head, "Nah, I've got plans tonight."
With a resigned smile, he added, "My family's set me up on a blind date..."
The meaning was clear without saying more.
Everett got it; Callum was subtly letting him know he'd moved on from Selena. It was his way of urging Everett to cherish her and avoid making any more foolish blunders.
Lifting his teacup, Everett said, "Here's to you, with tea instead of wine."
Callum graciously picked up his own cup and clinked it against Everett's.
Just before heading out, Callum's eyes swept over Everett's chest, "Everett, you've been through quite the emotional wringer today. You feeling alright?"
Not alright...
Of course, he wasn't.
His heart ached, and for a fleeting moment, he thought he heard something shattering inside him.
But the feeling passed quickly.
Right now, he couldn't afford to dwell on it; he needed to stay by Selena's side and didn't want to leave her for even a moment.
Everett managed a faint smile, "I'm okay."
"Alright then, but if anything comes up, you have to reach out. An artificial heart isn't like the real deal; if the machine acts up, it can be a real hassle."
Everett held his two children's hands as he walked Callum to the door, watching as his car pulled away.
Outside the police station, a line of sleek black cars rolled up and came to a stop.
Levi was the first to hop out, jogging over to the rear passenger door and opening it with all due respect.
Abraham stepped out, draped in a black coat, his face stern and commanding.
The place was already teeming with reporters who, upon spotting him, rushed over hoping to snag a comment about his sister, Joy. Yet, the bodyguards held them at bay, and Abraham walked in, unfazed.
Inside, everyone treated him with the utmost respect, quickly ushering him into a
room.
Joy was seated there, with food and drinks laid out before her. She looked composed, clearly being treated well, without any signs of distress.
Once the door clicked shut, Levi stood guard outside, making sure no one approached.
Abraham walked over, took a seat on the sofa, and cast a cold gaze at Joy, saying nothing.
At first, Joy felt a bit wronged, but after a long moment of eye contact with Abraham, she eventually gave in. She moved over to him, sat down, and wrapped her arms around his, resting her head on his shoulder.
As she spoke, she began to cry, "Brother, I was reckless. I'm sorry."
The whole scene today was her doing.
She hadn't waited for Abraham's go-ahead because her hatred for Selena was too intense.
She couldn't just stand by and watch Selena shine and enjoy a loving relationship with Everett.noveldrama
Abraham was indeed furious.
He's known for keeping his cool, especially in this world where recklessness and impulsiveness can lead to a swift downfall.
Without self-control, he wouldn't have climbed to his current position.
Joy was still too young.
But once she admitted her mistake and played the spoiled sister, Abraham's heart softened.
Truth be told, it was Everett who was being ungrateful. Had he just gone along and married Joy, giving
up Selena, things wouldn't have spiraled like this.
Abraham hugged his sister, gently patting her shoulder, "Don't worry, your brother can handle this little hiccup."
Half an hour later.
Joy, arm-in-arm with Abraham, casually strolled out of the police station.
The reporters stood there, dumbfounded, exchanging confused glances. What just happened?
Wasn't she just taken in? And now she's... walking out already?
What do you think?
