Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 763

As she spoke, she pulled out a tiny taser from her pocket and handed it over to Selena.

"Here you go, ma'am. Keep this handy for self-defense. If any sleazy guy tries to mess with you again, just zap him!"

Selena chuckled.

"Alright, I'll hang onto it."

Later that afternoon, Holt came in with some great news.

It turned out that Kesler International backed out of their collaboration, which meant Jason wasn't going to pull the plug on the contract, and the project was back on track.

Holt was over the moon, praising her, "Miss, you're amazing! You even managed to sway someone like Abraham."

Selena was lounging in Blaine's office, leaning back into the comfy leather chair.

"It wasn't me who convinced Abraham. He just realized that his future was more important than his sister's petty jealousy. He wasn't about to gamble with that."

Yesterday, when Abraham played hardball by making her down a whole bottle of wine, she knew then he'd come around. That bottle was his way of making it up to his sister.

Deep down, people are selfish. No matter how much they care, when it comes to their own interests, they'll make concessions.

But regardless, Selena managed to keep the project alive, and that was a temporary relief.

"Go on, Holt, and get busy. I've got to give Blaine a call."

Holt nodded, "Sure thing, Miss. The big boss is going to be thrilled when he hears this."

Where there's happiness, there's also disappointment.

Joy, who was already fuming because of Selena in the morning, was told in the afternoon that the project had been axed, and her. brother was behind it. She stormed into Abraham's office, her heels clicking with fury.

She slammed the desk and cried out, "Brother, why are you siding with Selena? Who's your real sister here?"

Abraham barely glanced at her, his expression unchanged, as he continued reading his documents.

Only when Joy's voice was hoarse from crying and she was worn out did he look up, calmly saying, "Even if I didn't step in, Everett would have. Better I handle it first than let Everett use it to win Selena over."

Joy refused to believe it, "Everett and Selena are divorced. He wouldn't bother with her affairs."

Abraham chuckled, "Do you even believe what you're saying? I'm a man too, and I understand men better than you do."

Joy was even more upset, "So I'm just supposed to stand by, doing nothing? Watch Selena steal Everett away again? Brother, even you're not helping me?"

Abraham, being more than a decade older than Joy and having watched her grow up, cared for her like a daughter, and naturally wouldn't let her suffer.

"Don't worry."

Abraham gave a knowing smile, "How do you know that just because Selena landed this project, she'll be able to pull it off smoothly? It's a huge undertaking with a long timeline. Who's to say something won't go wrong along the way? By then, with all the money pumped in, if the project goes belly up, it'll be devastating..."

Joy's eyes lit up with realization.noveldrama

Right, she hadn't lost yet. No matter how hard Selena worked to secure the project, this was Newport, and her brother was set to be the top dog soon. Whether the project would actually take off was still in his shands.

Lift her high only to let her fall-that would be a real crushing blow.

...

That evening, Selena finished going through the documents and got up to leave.

She stood at the company's entrance, waiting for Holt to bring the car around. But just then, another car pulled up in front of her.

The window rolled down slowly, and a man's deep voice said, "Hop in."
