Chapter 3514 There's a Snake Above You
Nightfall crept in as the brilliant river of stars emerged in the sky.noveldrama
Matthew lay on the grass with his hands behind his head, quietly gazing at the starry expanse above. Back in Eastcliff, he had once stargazed like this with Sasha. But now, beside him were Tertius, adjusting his glasses, and Mack. As for Allyson, she chose to sit a little distance away, unwilling to share the grass with three men, her pride keeping her at arm's length.
"Tertius, do you ever think about going back?" Mack suddenly asked, breaking the silence.
Tertius paused, his expression flickering with surprise before he chuckled casually. "Go back? What for? Things here aren't so bad. Even if I did go back, I'd still be alone. Honestly..."
He sat up, grinning at Mack. "I think a dumbo like you need me more than anyone else."
Mack's face immediately darkened. "Oh, really? I knew you were badmouthing me behind my back, and now you've got the guts to say it to my face?! You're asking for it!" With that, Mack lunged, putting Tertius in a playful headlock.
Watching the two wrestle, a faint smile tugged at Matthew's lips. Nearby, Allyson looked on, a trace of envy flickering in her eyes at the camaraderie between the three men.
As Matthew observed their antics, his expression suddenly shifted. Rising from the grass, he said, "I need to step away for a moment. Wait here for me."
Tertius and Mack nodded cheerfully, while Allyson blushed faintly but couldn't help casting a curious glance at Matthew's retreating figure.
Matthew walked toward a small wooded area, the smile on his face fading into his usual calm demeanor.
In the forest, the sounds of insects filled the air, and mosquitoes buzzed relentlessly around him. Without so much as a flick of his hand, a wave of invisible energy radiated from his body. In an instant, the mosquitoes were reduced to tiny clouds of blood mist that drifted to the ground.
Matthew's pristine white shirt billowed slightly though there was no wind.
His indifferent gaze locked onto a shadowy figure behind a large tree. "Still hiding behind trees as always, but there's a venomous snake right above you. One bite, and you're done for."
At his calm statement, there was sudden movement behind the tree.
Hiss!
A pitch-black snake was hurled from the tree, landing on the ground with an angry hiss.
Matthew glanced at it briefly before flicking his foot. A single leaf shot forward with lightning speed, cutting through the air like a blade. In the blink of an eye, the leaf reached the snake and sliced it cleanly in two, severing it at the head.
Leaves and petals could be as deadly as weapons in the hands of a skilled martial artist. Infusing even a simple leaf with inner strength could turn it into a lethal projectile.
From behind the tree stepped a mustachioed man-Lenny. His eyes, hidden in the shadows moments ago, now reflected visible fear.
He had heard of that particular
snake, a species unique to the West
Montiria Islands, notorious for its deadly venom. A single bite would be fatal. If Matthew hadn't warned him, his life could have ended right there.
Lenny's previous hostility toward Matthew had all but vanished, replaced by grudging respect.
"Mr. Larden," Lenny began, his tone
far more deferential, "my master asked me to deliver a message. Your match with Shaun Mendoza will begin preparations tomorrow night at the Veiled Assembly's docks. We'll be waiting for you there."
Matthew nodded slightly. "I'll be there on time."
What do you think?
