Chapter 1
“Dom, believe me. I didn’t push her!”
The relentless downpour drenched Lola Mitchell as she slumped on the ground, pleading with the man looming over
her.
Dominick Sinclair stood stoically in the cold rain, gazing down at the woman at his feet. His eyes were as icy as the downpour, filled with both hatred and a deep, unspoken grievance. His lips, as if chilled by frost, parted slightly. His voice was cool and detached.
“You didn’t? Then how did Jessie fall down the stairs? Are you saying she pushed herself down?” Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
She pushed herself….
Lola paused and felt a mix of tears and bitterness welling up, her gaze piercing the person in front of her.
“Yes, she did it herself!”
Lola urgently clarified as if suddenly remembering what had happened.
“It was her… She was in front of me, walking. Then, for some reason, she turned to face me. I saw her falling towards the stairs. L… I reached out to catch her, and she could’ve grasped my hand, but she didn’t. She just…
Lola was somewhat stammering, eager to make Dominick believe her.
Dominick responded with a scornful laugh, his eyes piercing through Lola with a chilling intensity.
“Lola, I always thought you were that naive, simple girl you used to be. But I never thought jealousy could make a person so hideous and disgusting”
Lola looked up. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she struggled desperately.
“Dom, you have to believe me. This is all Jessica’s scheme. Ever since Landon died, she’s been like this. She never intended to keep the baby. Keeping the child was just a ploy to tear us apart…
A harsh slap abruptly silenced Lola.
As she lay on the ground, her ears rang sharply, and her mind buzzed into chaos. The taste of blood, metallic and sweet, flooded her mouth. Before she could gather her thoughts, a firm hand clutched her neck. Lola raised her to meet a cold, indifferent gaze.
eyes
“You know that Landon just died, and the child in Jessie’s womb is his only bloodline. And yet, Lola, you dare to use that child as your excuse. I never thought you could be so heartless, so cunning and evil.”
As Dominick recalled the blood in the stairwell, his grip tightened.
Tears streamed down Lola’s face as she fought against the fingers around her throat, her breaths growing shallow, She looked at the stern face before her, silently asking why he was doing this to her and what her mistake was. Her only fault was…loving him.
Suddenly, a sharp pain surged through her lower abdomen. Lola’s expression twisted in agony, her resistance against Dominick growing more desperate. She gasped, trying to utter a few words.
“The baby… Dom… The baby!”
Dominick froze, his gaze instinctively drawn to Lola’s abdomen.
436 PM D
Lola was wearing a long white dress today. The rain made it cling tightly to her body, revealing her four–month pregnant belly. Now, a vivid red stain spread through the fabric beneath her, mingling with the rainwater, intensifying with each passing moment.
The sight of the blood jolted Dominick back to reality, prompting him to release his hold and stand up.
Lola, gasping for air, looked down at the blood beneath her. A wave of panic washed over her. The sharp pain in her abdomen grew more intense. She pressed against her stomach with one hand and reached out desperately, grabbing the hem of Dominick’s pants with the other hand.
“Dom, my stomach… It hurts…
Dominick cast a cold glance at the blood under Lola and remained motionless.
“Dom, my stomach hurts, the baby… The baby might be in trouble. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Lola bore the pain as she tugged at his cold pant leg, pleading desperately. At this moment, Lola could only pin her hopes on Dominick, the man she had loved for ten years, now her husband, and the father of her child.
“Dom…”
Lola looked up, only seeing his indifferent eyes.
At that moment, she realized that Dominick wouldn’t help her, not after what happened with Jessica.
She let
go of his trouser leg and instinctively clutched her stomach while she tried to stand. Jessica’s fall down the stairs had resulted in the miscarriage of a six–month pregnancy, extinguishing the only heir of Landon, who had tragically passed away three months prior. Lola now had become the sinner of the entire Sinclair family.
She had no one to rely on but herself.
“Hang in there, sweetie. Mommy’s going to the hospital right now…”
Lola murmured, facing the relentless rain from the sky. Her sole focus was reaching the hospital. She believed that as long as she made it there, her baby would survive!
“Make sure she stays on the ground!”
His voice, cold and unforgiving as if echoing from the depths of hell, sent shivers down Lola’s spine. It struck her heart with a frigid, piercing pain.
Lola paused and turned around to see Dominick standing in the rain, his expression stone–cold, his eyes devoid of any warmth. A few servants rushed out from the villa, their eyes filled with resentment. Lola, having witnessed this, dashed towards the gate without hesitation.
But before she could reach the gate, they seized her and dragged her back in front of Dominick.
A heavy kick to the back of her knees sent her crashing to the ground with a thud. She knelt there, like a prisoner, held down by two people before Dominick. The pain in her abdomen intensified, blood flowing down her legs, mixing with the rainwater as if something was being ripped from her body.
Lola’s face gradually turned pale, and she looked up at the person before her with the last bit of her desperate love.
“Dom, I swear I didn’t push Jessica. Please, take me to the hospital. My stomach hurts so much, the baby… The baby can kick now. He’s our child. Please, I beg you, save her. I’ll do anything, just save our baby”
Dominick stood resolute, his lips parting just enough to let a stream of icy words flow
曲
4:36 PM
“Lola, since Jessie’s child is gone, let your child make up for it!”
Lola looked up in disbelief as tears cascaded down her cheeks. She wanted to save herself, to struggle, but her arms were pinned behind her by two servants. There, she knelt in humiliation, watching as the blood beneath her mixed with the rain, forming a small stream that flowed away.
A clap of thunder seemed to tear the sky open right above them.
A piercing, mournful, desolate, desperate, agonized, resentful, hateful, and terrifying scream erupted from Lola’s mouth, like a beast breaking free from its cage. It seemed to gather all the pain
in the world into one cry that filled the night sky, causing the two servants restraining Lola to abruptly release her.
A mouthful of blood spilled from Lola’s lips.
Dominick’s brow furrowed. Just as he was about to step forward, a servant rushed out from the villa in a hurry
“Mr. Sinclair, Mrs. Jessica Sinclair is in distress, she wanted to kill herself”
Dominick’s expression changed abruptly, and he quickly strode towards the garage. But just as he took a few steps, a cold, almost unfamiliar voice echoed from behind him.
“I shouldn’t fallen for you, Dominick!”
As Lola’s words lingered in the air, she slowly slumped to the ground….
