Chapter 2149 The Ant on the Scale

“Your Holiness, our warriors are still searching. I will report it to you immediately as soon as we have news!” Anna said again.

Mackenzie replied firmly, “No, I need to see for myself also need to assess the battlefield situation and check on the innocent civilians there!”

Anna looked to Rhett, hoping he could dissuade her.

However, Rhett knew Mackenzie better than anyone. Every generation of the Saintess had a pure and compassionate heart.

Though this generation’s Saintess appeared colder than the last, she was still warm–hearted beneath her icy exterior.

Given the involvement of so many innocent lives, she was bound to inspect the scene herself, especially under her direct order.

Besides, he was curious to see the Serpent Altar for himself. So, he nodded to Anna, signaling his

agreement.

“Understood, Your Holiness!” Anna could only comply. Then, she gathered a small guard unit and escorted

Mackenzie and Rhett to the battlefield.

The scene was harrowing upon arrival. Corpses lay scattered across the ground, the air thick with the lingering heat of gunfire, surrounded by the ruins of buildings.

“So, this is war.” Mackenzie’s heart was heavy with sadness.

This was just a localized skirmish, yet it had resulted in thousands of casualties, and rivers of blood staining the ground.

She couldn’t imagine the devastation of a full–scale war between nations–mountains of corpses and seas of blood.

A profound sense of responsibility overwhelmed her. She finally grasped the weight of the saying, ‘With great power comes great responsibility.‘

Or rather, the greater one’s position, the greater the responsibility.

Those seated at the pinnacle of power must ensure peace and prosperity for the countless citizens under their rule. Otherwise, they had no right to occupy that position.

For the common people to enjoy peace, they must choose their leaders wisely.

“Anna, I order you to rescue every innocent survivor here who isn’t part of the Five Poison Sect!” Mackenzie suddenly commanded. noveldrama

“Your Holiness, but…” Anna hesitated.

They were short on manpower as it was and needed to remain vigilant against potential counterattacks from the Five Poison Sect. How can we spare resources to rescue noncombatants?

As she walked, she raised her voice. “Everyone, my name is Mackenzie. I am leading the Wolf Warrior Unit against the Five Poison Sect to eradicate this cancer from the West End and bring peace to its people!

“In war, sacrifices are inevitable. To win this war, we cannot hesitate or hold back! I take full responsibility for the casualties caused by my order to attack.

“Now that the battle for the Serpent Lair is over, I assure you that I will not abandon any innocent survivors. You must hold on and live! A beautiful, free world is waiting for you beyond this tragedy!”

Her words struck a chord with everyone present. Though their reactions varied, each person was deeply moved in their own way.

Observing her speech, Rhett couldn’t help but admire her. This generation’s Saintess was a true leader- merciless when necessary and compassionate when appropriate.

She was a legendary woman of both heart and strength

“Rhett, come with me to the Serpent Altar. We must find Quintus and Solana and not let anything happen to them!” Mackenzie instructed.

“Okay!” Rhett readily agreed.

After two nights of recovery, his injuries and poisoning from the fight with Aora and the Toad King were nearly healed.

Meanwhile, Anna stayed behind with some soldiers to assist the injured, while Rhett and Mackenzie made their way to the Serpent Altar.

Outside the altar, the signs of battle were unmistakable.

“These large craters were caused by Quintus, and the damaged stone walls must have been smashed by his fists!” Rhett analyzed the battlefield from the remains.

“The burn marks on the stone walls are Solana’s doing. There are no fire traces outside, likely because of the heavy snowfall.”

Rhett continued his analysis, carefully surveying the surroundings. He crouched down to examine some bloodstains and remnants of snake scales scattered on the ground.

“Your Holiness, the blood here is mostly serpent, with very little human blood. This suggests no one died outside.”

Hearing his analysis, Mackenzie deduced that Quintus and Solana must be inside the Serpent Altar.

After inspecting the area, Anna added, “Your Holiness, Solana is a tactical fighter. Knowing the snowstorm would suppress her flames, she would’ve lured the battle inside the altar. Most likely, it’s a two–on–two fight!”

“Let’s go inside!” Mackenzie decided without hesitation. She suspected the battle between Quintus, Solana, and the Serpent King was still ongoing.

All she could do now was pray for their safety and hope it wasn’t too late.

Rhett and Anna quickly followed her lead.

Meanwhile, Ken was waiting at another camp in the snowy mountains.

Weary of the harsh conditions, Lenore stormed into the tent, complaining, “Look at this! We came all this way to support Mackenzie, and she just leaves us out here in the cold!”

Ken replied irritably, “Isn’t that better? We don’t even have to lift a finger and just sit back and enjoy the show. Besides, no one can accuse us of doing nothing when we return. We brought reinforcements, didn’t

we?”

In truth, he knew full well that Lenore still had a soft spot for Teddy.

They were well–fed and content back when they served Teddy. Why stir up trouble now?

Besides, they knew that their perks and privileges would diminish with Mackenzie as the new chairman of the Chamber of Commerce as she would handle matters impartially and by the book.

When leaders were upright, the people prospered, but those in power might have felt the squeeze.

Lenore didn’t argue further as it was clear that the Five Poison Sect was losing this war.

Even if she didn’t want Mackenzie to become the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, she couldn’t deny the woman’s strength.

Just then, a flash of red streaked into their tent.

“Who is it?” The couple jumped in alarm.

Their camp lacked any real defense, and a top–tier assassin could easily have killed them on the spot.

The intruder quickly covered their mouths, signaling for silence.

Seeing who it was, Ken removed their hand and frowned. “Envoy Aora, it’s you!”

Aora spoke, skipping the pleasantries. “Yes, the queen of the Five Poison Sect sent me to find you. She said only you can help us turn the tide of this war!”

Ken and Lenore shuddered at the statement.

Then, Ken let out a bitter laugh. “Envoy Aora, don’t flatter me! Mackenzie is leading Magnus, equipped with planes, artillery, and top–tier soldiers.

“With her and Magnus, two strategic masterminds in command, someone like me is no more than an ant. I’m not even worth mentioning!”
