Legendary Football Superstar

Chapter 066 Skill Package

Justin James Watt is a total beast, man! After two hours of grinding it out together, that was the only thing Luke could think. That dude is a straight-up monster! Two hours of hardcore, non-stop, high-frequency training, and Justin kept pushing Luke's limits on what he thought was basic training. It was like everything was cranked up to eleven, and it was just insane.

Before today, Luke thought his training was pretty brutal, especially with the system keeping tabs on him.

For this rookie camp and the upcoming draft, Luke hadn't skipped a single day of training. He was all about that grind, knocking out his daily workouts like clockwork. He even racked up three basic points and hit "4/14" on his latest daily task after today's session.

But after today, Luke realized he was still a rookie in the game. There's always someone out there hustling harder, and Justin was that guy. It just showed that talent is cool and all, but hard work is where it's at.

After they wrapped up, they left the gym and hopped in the elevator. Justin was all pumped, "Yo, wanna hit it again tomorrow? Finding a solid training buddy at rookie camp is tough." For real, not many guys were grinding like that during rookie camp.

Luke nodded, thinking about how rare someone like Justin was, "Yeah, I'm down." Then he laughed, realizing he needed a training partner to keep up with his daily grind too, "Camp officially kicks off tomorrow. How about we meet up at the gym after it wraps up in the afternoon?"

"Bet!" Justin snapped his fingers and started humming some tune. The elevator dinged on the eighth floor, "This is me." He gave a thumbs-up, "Good luck tomorrow!"

Back in his room, it was a ghost town. The bed was covered in unopened suitcases. Looked like his roommate Logan hadn't even unpacked yet and was probably off exploring, which was totally his style.

Instead of rushing to find Logan and the crew, Luke chilled on the sofa. Finally, he had a moment to check out the reward from that special task earlier.

"Physical Quality +1, Mental Quality +2, Tactical Awareness +2, Unknown Quarterback Training Skill Pack +1, Unknown Special Skill Pack +1."

This was hands down Luke's biggest score yet. His physical quality was now sitting pretty at sixty-three points, mental quality was up to eighty-three, and his tactical awareness had hit sixty-nine. Talk about leveling up across the board. Plus, after a month of grinding out daily training tasks and racking up three basic points, Luke had dumped them all into his observation vision, bumping that skill up to sixty-three points!

Since he got the system, this was the first time Luke had snagged a special task. In almost seven months, it was the only one. That just showed how rare and special these tasks were. And man, the rewards were sweet-boosting all his key stats!

But the real kicker? Two skill packs! Seeing those for the first time got Luke all hyped, wondering what kind of game-changers they'd bring.

Taking a deep breath to chill out, Luke decided to crack open the unknown special skill pack first. With a satisfying click, Seven's voice chimed in, "Congrats on snagging the special skill 'Absolute Step,' duration three seconds, usage 2/2."

This was the first time since the system got implanted that Seven had personally announced a task reward. Usually, rewards like the basic points from the special task just now came through as messages. But this special skill? Seven announcing it himself meant it was a big deal.

But "Absolute Step"? What even is that?

After more than half a year of dealing with the system, Luke was getting the hang of it. He didn't rush to ask Seven but looked around. Sure enough, there was a new icon in the upper right corner. Next to the "Basic Points" icon, there was a "Special Skills" icon.

Opening the special skills option, he saw the skill list. There were now two skills: "Absolute Step" and "Quarterback Training." Looked like both skill packs landed here. Focusing on "Absolute Step," there was a detailed description:

"After using the skill, during the duration, the quarterback's steps are absolutely invincible, able to dodge any form of tackle, collision, and encirclement, and complete the pass with a stable posture."

Holy crap!

That was the only thought in Luke's mind before he heard Seven say, "Please use civilized language."

Luke couldn't help but crack up, "Seven, are you for real? You're actually nitpicking my language now?" He didn't mind at all and laughed even harder, "This skill is insane! So, I can just ignore the defenders, trust my legs, and go all out with my offensive plays?"

If he didn't have to sweat the blitz, the quarterback's playbook could get so wild that the defense would be left scratching their heads. Best case? He could draw all the defensive heat, leaving the backfield wide open for a killer long pass to seal the deal! Luke was genuinely stoked, "Yeah, yeah, I get it, it's only three seconds, but in those three seconds, I'm untouchable! And I get to use it twice! This is a total game-changer! Man, this is unreal!"

Quarterback footwork was Luke's biggest weak spot right now.

Ball carrying: sixty-five; evasion: sixty; blocking: fifty-three; dodging: fifty-three; feinting: fifty-three.

Those were Luke's current footwork stats, all in the red. Forget being an excellent quarterback; he was still a long way from being a decent one, and it wasn't something he could fix overnight. But "Absolute Step" was like a cheat code, a trump card for clutch moments.

Three seconds could be a lot or a little in a drive. A short pass might not even need two seconds, while a long pass could take four or five. So, the trick was to pick the perfect moment to use it!

Just like in the Rose Bowl, during that last drive, if Luke had "Absolute Step," he wouldn't have been so cornered. Even if he was surrounded, he could still make the pass calmly, and the game wouldn't have been such a nail-biter. Luke couldn't help but wonder, under Justin's beastly pressure, what would it feel like to use "Absolute Step"? The special skill pack was already so dope, and Luke's expectations for the quarterback training skill pack were through the roof. He eagerly opened the training skill pack, and after a satisfying click, he saw the description. This time, Seven didn't give a verbal intro but provided a straight-up text explanation.

"Complete the following training: Quick short passes, three sets, fifteen reps each; Quick medium passes, three sets, fifteen reps each; Quick long passes, three sets, fifteen reps each.

Training rewards: Short pass accuracy +1, Medium pass accuracy +1, Long pass accuracy +1."

Judging by the training content and rewards, knocking out forty-five passes would bump up his short pass accuracy, medium pass accuracy, and long pass accuracy by one point each. It seemed way too easy, almost like a freebie. But the catch was, this wasn't a daily training task but a skill. So, what was the deal with these training tasks compared to the daily grind?

"Seven, how do I use this training skill pack?" Luke asked, scratching his head. "Training skill pack is a skill. Just click to use, and the system will complete the training on behalf of the host. It standardizes the host's skill actions and increases the host's skill proficiency," Seven explained in his usual no-nonsense way.

Luke suddenly got it. It was like the system was doing some high-tech auto-correct.

In regular training, even if Luke followed videos and tried to mimic the techniques, there'd still be some slip-ups, especially with stuff like muscle use and strength. Usually, you'd need a pro coach to fix those.

Now, the quarterback training skill pack was like having a virtual coach, correcting Luke's technique and boosting his skill proficiency.noveldrama

At first glance, the rewards from the quarterback training skill pack seemed less flashy than the special skill pack. But in the long run, the training skill pack could be a game- changer, laying the groundwork for Luke to become a top-notch quarterback. The special skill pack, on the other hand, was a one-time deal for clutch moments. Either way, these two skill packs were the real gems from the special task. You couldn't get them from daily tasks or game tasks. One could save your bacon in a tight spot, and the other could set you up for a stellar career. This was a huge win! Compared to the boosts in physical quality, mental quality, and tactical awareness, the perks from the two skill packs were so epic that Luke couldn't chill out. In hindsight, the task content seemed like a piece of cake. Even if it was a bit of a prank, it was totally worth it!

"Seven, got any more special tasks? Hit me with another one," Luke joked, but Seven went radio silent. Luke kept calling out, "Seven? Seven? Little Seven? Big Seven?" "No," Seven's cold, stiff voice finally replied.
