- Win the Rose Bowl: Task Requirement: None; Task Reward: Base Points +5."
A bunch of task prompts popped into Luke's head again. The Rose Bowl was a whole different beast, with base points jumping by five at once, and each task had its own twist. With just two minutes left in the game, the tasks had been tweaked to fit the crunch time.
But right now, none of that mattered to Luke. He didn't have the time or the headspace to read through these tasks because this was the biggest game of his life, the Rose Bowl, a stage for the whole country; because the game was on the line, and they only had two minutes left; because the crowd was going wild, and his adrenaline was already through the roof.
Luke needed to lock in, 100% focus.
"Guys!" Luke hollered at his offensive teammates to huddle up, but the crowd's roar was so deafening that even though he yelled his lungs out, it felt like shouting into the void. Luke had to keep it short and sweet, "We're passing! Medium and long passes!"
All game long, Luke had been on the sidelines watching, but he wasn't just a spectator; he was a player, and a quarterback at that. So, he zeroed in on the game's flow, breaking down his team's offensive moves and the opponent's defensive schemes. As an observer, stepping back from the action, he could always spot the little things.
He noticed that the Badgers' defense wasn't all that. Their cornerbacks and safeties were nothing special, and their coverage and marking of receivers were pretty weak. On the flip side, they loved to blitz, with heavy interference and control in the short pass zone, and their run defense was solid.
Most importantly, the Badgers had a game-changer: Justin James Watt.
The Badgers were all about using their number 99, Justin James Watt, to wreak havoc. Whether it was blitzing the O-line to rattle the QB or taking down receivers to kill plays early, he was a beast! Against the Bruins' offensive line, he was practically a one-man wrecking crew.
The Bruins tried to switch up their tactics, but Kevin's long passes just weren't cutting it.
Sometimes the O-line couldn't hold off the defenders, forcing him to throw under pressure and miss the mark; other times, his accuracy was just off, missing the receivers completely; and then there were times when the defense read the play like a book, leaving Kevin with no choice but to go for short or medium passes.
The two touchdowns in the first half came from medium passes setting up a run for the score. But for the rest of the game, Kevin's reads were off, his throws were shaky, and his completion rate tanked, leaving the Bruins' offense stuck in the mud.noveldrama
If they had more time, Luke could've slowly chipped away at the defense, but with only two minutes left, every second was gold. He tried not to overthink it, recalling the coach's halftime strategies, and quickly set things up.
"Nelson, Eddie, keep an eye on number 99!" Time was ticking, but Luke dished out the orders fast, "Your job is to contain number 99. Forget the other defenders; we'll handle them!"
Before the Rose Bowl, Luke had wrapped up another fourteen-day training routine yesterday, snagging another base point, which he threw into his field vision. Now he had fifty-five points there, along with sixty in ball carrying and sixty in evasion. He was banking on his legs to carry them to victory in these last two minutes.
Luke locked eyes with Nelson Rosario and Eddie Williams, the two guys in his left blind spot. He needed them to block Justin's blitz. After getting their nods, he finally looked away.
"Two minutes, let's get some touchdowns!" Luke said, using the plural, not the singular. This confident, almost cocky statement made everyone chuckle. They overlapped their hands, let out a low roar, and broke the huddle, ready to get back in the game. The Bruins started their drive from their own 20-yard line.

"Bambi! Bambi! Bambi!" The crowd at the Rose Bowl was going nuts, like their chants could pump up the team with energy and confidence. That unshakable belief was turning the stadium into a pressure cooker of momentum.
The noise was so intense and chaotic that it actually helped calm Luke's racing heart. It was like the shouts were settling into a rhythm. His vision sharpened, locking onto the defensive players across the line, studying their formation and patterns. Then he yelled, "3, 33."
This was college ball, not the pros, so the playbook was a bit more limited. With just two minutes on the clock, time management was everything if they wanted to score.
The Bruins still had two timeouts, but the clock was not their friend. The receivers needed to not only catch the ball but also get out of bounds to stop the clock. Otherwise, they had just two timeouts, and the rest of the time they'd have to go no- huddle, pushing the pace and hoping to punch it in.
Two minutes might sound like a lot, but in football, it's a blink. This wasn't basketball where a few seconds could change everything.
The crowd was so loud that Luke had to shout his commands to the left and right to make sure everyone got the play. Then he crouched down, ready to snap the ball.
The 2011 Rose Bowl, Luke's second official game, and he had two minutes to make magic happen. He was ready!
"Attack!"
Luke yelled, feeling the football hit his hands. He quickly backpedaled, creating space, his eyes darting around the field, looking for his receivers on their routes. But before he could spot anyone, he saw a black shadow charging at him from the corner of his eye.
Run.
That was Luke's gut reaction. He immediately bolted in the opposite direction. A split second? Maybe half a second? Instinct kicked in, and Luke moved as fast as he could, but it wasn't fast enough. His lack of ball-carrying skills was glaring against the opponent's raw talent. He barely took two steps before a gust of wind hit him from behind, slamming him to the ground hard.

All Luke could do was clutch the football tight to avoid a fumble. He hit the ground like
a sack of potatoes, even getting a mouthful of grass. His muscles screamed in pain.
But pain was the last thing on his mind. He scrambled to his feet, shouting at Nelson and Eddie, "Defense! Defense! Did you guys just vanish?"
The guy who just flattened him was number 99, Justin James Watt.
This was Luke's first close-up look at the star player. Justin's face still had a bit of baby fat, his cheeks were flushed from the effort, and even his eye sockets had a hint of color. With a square jaw, rugged muscles, and a beastly build, he was a force of nature. His reaction speed was way beyond what Luke had expected, leaving no room to breathe and nailing the sack.
Justin! Justin! Justin! Luke had warned his team about him before the game, but on the first play, Justin broke through and got the sack! Luke was fuming!
Nelson and Eddie didn't say a word, just hung their heads, silently owning up to their mistake.
But Luke didn't dwell on it. He waved his teammates to line up again. Time was ticking. Luke realized his backpedal had taken him six yards back. Even then, Justin had rushed in immediately. His short-range explosiveness was insane!
Now, the Bruins were pushed back to their own 14-yard line. This not only meant a crappy starting position but also that they had to gain 16 yards on this play. The odds of a failed drive were climbing.
No time for regrets or frustration. Every second was precious. Luke reorganized his team and lined up again. His eyes scanned the defensive players in front of him. He didn't focus on Justin, acting like nothing had happened, calmly and objectively assessing the situation.
Luke knew Justin would blitz again. He needed to get the ball out fast. A short pass seemed like the best bet, but a short pass...
Focus. Luke's attention hit an all-time high. A flash of inspiration struck him, and he shouted, "Orange Marmalade! 5, 24, Orange Marmalade!" He yelled with all his might to his teammates on both sides, "Orange Marmalade!"
