Chapter 49
Angel Leffman
I am devastated. I told Sofia that I don't want lies between us anymore, that we should trust each other, and now she did this.
Why aren't you telling me anything, Sofia? What are you trying to do? Where are you? I went to Lee Andrew's, and you weren't there either. Where are you, Sofia? I want to trust you, but you're hiding something from me. "Angel, what are you doing here?" I have been at the door of her apartment for almost half an hour waiting for her.
I straightened up and faced her. "I was waiting for you. I would have gone in, but I don't have a key. Where were you?"
"I was at the company." She replied and opened the door and I followed her inside.
She's lying. I was there earlier and she wasn't there.
"In the company? Are you sure?"
She looked at me with a frown. "I think I know where I was, Angel."
"I looked everywhere for you and couldn't find you. I called you and you didn't answer."
"Sorry, I barely checked my phone. There is just too much work and I was at the factory. I had to distract myself and I started designing. Whenever I'm there, I get lost and forget the time." She shared in excitement but exhaustion. "Sofia!"
I caught her before she could hit the ground.I held her and noticed that she was pale and sweaty. I carried her to the bed and tried to wake her up. She's obviously not pregnant despite what she told the doctor, so it must be her sugar. I immediately called her doctor and he came from the countryside, and examined Sofia.
"What was she doing when she passed out?"
"She just arrived from somewhere and she fainted."
"Is there anything that stressed her out?"
"This morning, she had a good breakfast, but I'm not sure if she had lunch and I don't think she had had dinner yet. As for stress, maybe because she has a lot of work. But she was tired because of physical exercise last night."
"Angel, it's not the s*x," Paul refuted my claim. "Actually, her sugar is good, a little low, but not enough to make her pass out."
"Then what could have caused it? Do some tests if needed."
"That would not be necessary because I think she's just under a lot of stress."
We both looked at Sofia and saw that she was starting to wake up.
"Hello, handsome," she greeted me when she saw me and winced. "My head hurts so much."
"Sofia, how are you doing? Have you experienced anything unusual in your body or are you stressed?" Paul asked her.
"He made me a delicious breakfast," she points out sleepily, "There was a lot of news that was not good, and it was very stressful."
"Did you have lunch or dinner?" He asked and Sofia denied so Paul turned to me. "I told you, I know her. If you feel like she's having a meltdown, it's time to worry about stress."
"Is that certain? Are you sure she's not feeling anything unusual?" I asked and Sofia laughed.
"Angel, I don't think you could get me pregnant in a day, and I don't think I'll have symptoms after twenty-four hours."
"Don't worry, it's just a crisis. I'll give her a shot and it should take effect in a few hours. Make sure she eats something." He gave her an injection, gave me instructions and left.
She stared at me and I said nothing. I went to the kitchen to prepare a light dinner for her and it was ready after twenty minutes.
"It smells good," I heard her say behind me. I didn't say anything. I was still mad and upset by her lying, and her carelessness. "Are you mad?" She asked and I still didn't answer. "I thought I lost consciousness, and the last thing I remember is when I entered the apartment. I heard your voice in the distance and then I woke up in my room. Did you ask if I'm pregnant. or was it a dream?" She whispered the last sentence, but I heard her.
"You told me you know how to take care of yourself. I believe you, but you don't even eat."
"I had slight anxiety between meetings, meetings, discussions and a little of everything. I told you, I wanted to rest, I went into the workshop and forgot about the time."
"You can't forget, Sofia, because these things happen and you scared me."
"I don't want to say "I told you so," but "I told you so" it's your fault," I turned to her and gave her a blank look. "I told you I didn't want to get out of bed, and I wanted to stay in bed with you, but you don't want to."
"It's not that I don't want it. We have work to do, although with what happened today, I would have slept too. Sofia, what did you do yesterday before you saw us? Why were you in a bad mood?"
"I resolved something from the past, so to speak." She answered and looked away from me.
"What about the past?" I asked and she looked skeptical. Sofia, you can trust me.
"Something rather delicate," she answered in avoidance. "What are you going to do tomorrow?"
"Work, like every day." I said coldly, I am mad because she doesn't open up to me.
When the food was ready, I prepared her dinner. "You won't eat?"
"I'm not hungry, you better eat."
I watched her and she devoured the plate in no time.
"Angel, I could tell that you are in a bad mood. You have a cold and distant attitude towards me again."
My jaw clenched and I sighed. "I told you that I hate lies, that I want to trust you, but if you lie to me like this, how can I do that?"
"What did I lie to you about?" She asked and I can't believe she asked me that.
"I'd better go home, we'll talk later."
"No, Angel, don't go," she asked and hugged me from behind. If I stay, we might argue. "What do you want to know?"
I removed her arms and faced her. "Will you say it? Will you tell me what happened to you? What you're hiding? What you're not telling me? What you're planning?"
I saw doubt in her eyes and looked everywhere but me. "I asked for forgiveness. I opened my heart to you. Sofia, what do you feel about me? Why are you doubting me?"
Sofia let out a deep breath. "Angel, I know you are a man of actions and not of words, that it is still difficult for you to believe me, in what I tell you."
"And if you lie to me, how can I have no doubts, Sofia?"
"But I don't know what I'm lying to you about." She said in frustration.
"What were you doing yesterday before you saw us?"
"I told you, I was solving something."
"And what is exactly that something?!" I exclaimed, finally losing my patience, and she went silent. I knew she wanted to tell me, but something is stopping her. "Okay, I'll help you. What did you do at the gynecological fertility clinic? Or rather, when did we get pregnant and you didn't tell me?"
Sofia looked shocked. "How did you know I was there? Were you following me?!"
"Is that really your answer, Sofia? I asked you last night if you didn't have anything to say to me, and you didn't say anything. And now you're in a clinic with a supposed pregnancy that obviously isn't there and you're here lying straight to my face."
"Don't yell at me, Angel! It's not easy to trust you!" I admit, that hurt me. "Try putting yourself in my position. I want to believe you and last night was magical, but then I started to remember the man who hated me for five years, and now he's telling me he loves me and wants to believe me? I'm afraid to trust you and then you'll treat me like before or worse. This time, you might destroy me because..." She cut herself off and tried to calm herself down.
"Sofia, I told you that I wanted to forget about the past. That I was looking for the truth, but there should be no more lies between us and you agreed, yet you still lied to me."
"But it's your fault, Angel! You can't expect me to forget five years in a few weeks. Tell me, yesterday, how much did you doubt what I told you about Elisa?" She threw back and it's my turn to be silent. "You see, you still doubt me for no reason. How can I tell you something without the fear that you'll walk out that door and treat me like you used to? Or will you go to your lovely Elisa and prefer to believe her? Angel, you hurt me. It's not your fault, but because of that woman's lie, but you hurt me, and I feel like I hardly recognize you anymore, not to mention that Elisa is still in your life."
"I know I hurt you, I know it's hard for you to trust me, but if we want to start from the beginning you can't lie to me."
"But you lied to me too," What is she saying now? "I thought you just slept with Elisa the night you got drunk, but you didn't, then there was your trip to London, you were with her. When you came home, you asked me for a divorce for her. I'm stuck here as you toured London and God knows how many other countries you've been to with your old love. Tell me, Angel, do you believe I had nothing to do with the pictures? That I had nothing to do with the baby's death?" "Sofia, that's why I'm looking for the truth."
"That's not what I asked you! You don't want me to doubt you, but you're doubting me. You ask me to tell you things, but how do I do it without fearing that you can use it against me and hurt me?" "I will never hurt you, Sofia." I told her softly and she barked a laugh.
"You have been doing that for five years and I am tired. I don't want that to happen again, especially now that I know there is a romantic man in you, a man who can love me."
"I love you, Sofia."
"Sometimes words are not enough, Angel. You like facts, I do too, and last night was perfect, but it's not enough."
She went to the room and I stayed there. She has the right to doubt me, and I understand. But she doesn't trust me, and it hurts.
After a few minutes of staying in the living room, pacing back and forth while thinking, I finally followed her inside.
"I wanted to see if you're okay," I told her in a gentle voice. "Do you want me to leave?"
She looked at me for a few seconds, then refused. I went inside and sat in the corner.NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
"It's really impossible for us to start anew, huh?"
"Even if we both try, we have too many doubts. Maybe we're not just born to be together."
What?
"No, Sofia. Hey, look at me! No relationship is easy, especially ours. Too much has happened to us, but last night I told you that you were mine and I meant it. I'm going to conquer you." "But you've already one that."
"Then I will show you the truth that I love you and you can trust me, but you have to give me a vote of confidence, you have to take a risk with me."
"And if you don't believe what I tell you? Elisa has been playing with your head for a long time so how..."
"You showed me that she lied to me. If I believed you when you tell me that you spent that night with me and not with him, I will believe you when you tell me that you had nothing to do with the pictures and I want to believe you with what happened to my baby," Her face scrunched up and I knew she didn't like what I said last. "You want to believe me about the baby, but you don't believe me. You still believe in her, that I hurt her to get rid of it. How can you love someone who thinks like that?"
"You're right," I admitted and I knew despite her cold aura, she wouldn't hurt an innocent child. "But you're investigating Elisa, aren't you? You talked to the doctor. You made her believe we were pregnant and we wanted to abort it. What I don't understand is why?" "She is a very good doctor who specializes in control, fertility and abortion, although it is ironic. She dedicates herself to fertility, but she also performs abortion, it just doesn't make sense."
"Did you find out anything? Do you want to tell me what you found out?"
"Her words against mine, Angel, I have no proof, so I need proof to speak."
"We can find it together, haven't you thought about that?" I asked and she shook her head. "Tell me, Sofia. I'm going to believe you."
She looked at me defensively. "Angel, I'm tired, I'm sleepy and I don't want to end up arguing.
"We won't argue. I just want you to take a chance on me and have some faith in me. I took a chance on you. I know that by having the truth on your side, I was the one who was unfair, but think that for these five years I believed all those lies without proof, and now, I decided to believe you."
She looked at me with suspicion, have I really hurt her like this?
She was silent for a few seconds before she sighed. "You know I'm not pregnant, therefore, abortion is not an option."
"I know, that's why I know you're investigating Elisa."
"She lied to you, told lies about me and you know how I am with people who mess with me. Will you defend her?"
"You and I are looking for the truth. I want you to know that I haven't spent a day with Elisa since I saw her. Nothing happened in London because I respected you, I respected the contract."
"The contract, but without it, you would have cheated on me, and I saw the pictures she sent to your phone about reminiscing about the past."
Pictures? What pictures? I began to wonder, and remembered the one from the hotel.
"Did you look at my phone?"
"No, it rang and the nurse gave it to me. And the photos and messages came, then you left the house to spend the night with her."
"No, I didn't. I slept at home after I watched over you. You can ask Carmen. I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to think that I care about you."
She stared at me with disbelief and she held her head. "I am tired of so many doubts, lies, and misunderstandings."
"I'm tired too, that's why I decided to believe you," I looked at her to see her fighting sleep. "Go to sleep, Sofia. We'll talk tomorrow. Get your strength back first."
"Don't leave, you're mine." She sleepily said.
"I would never leave you, possessive woman." I kissed her on the forehead and laid down next to her. In a matter of seconds, she fell asleep.
I hurt her so much that she can't trust me one bit. I must pay for the consequences of these five years, but I will prove to her that she can trust me, that she can give me her heart and that I will never hurt her again.
