Chapter 46
Chapter 46
“You should just speak your mind, Mr. Anderson.”
“How long more are you trying to conceal it, Ms. Sorelle? Your photograph with Mr. Golding is all over the Internet!” The director chuckled as he handed his phone to Angeline.
Angeline gasped, and her heart skipped a beat when she saw the trending photograph on Twitter.
It was of them in the guest room next to the rack, and Evander was reaching for the shower gel for her.
The angle of the photograph made it appear as if Evander was embracing her. Furthermore, he was clad in casual attire. It was difficult to imagine any scenario other than them being a couple.
Most importantly, who took the photograph? And why was it circulated?
Angeline returned the phone to the director with a mystified look. Noting the curious stares directed toward her, she could not help but twitch her lips.
I’m famous now because of Evander.
The director not only commenced Angeline’s scenes, but he also canceled the minigame at the water park and tasked an assistant to oversee Angeline’s requests.
Joseline faltered at the sight, flabbergasted.
How did this happen? How could a second-tier celebrity like Angeline be an acquaintance of Evander? Furthermore, wasn’t it revealed that he has a fiancée?
Before Joseline could figure it out, the director called for filming to continue.
The remaining scenes were shot without a hitch. After wrapping up for the day, Angeline called Nancy at once to have the latter help pack up while she went to change out of her uniform.
Angeline had spent the afternoon simmering in unease. I’d just sworn to Evander yesterday, and such an intimate photograph was leaked a day later. There’s no way he’ll let me off the hook for this.
After getting dressed, she emerged from the changing room and caught a glimpse of a silhouette following her from the mirror on the wall.
Angeline frowned, a cold smile spreading across her lips. She stopped and, without turning around, said, “How long are you planning on following me, Mr. Yiurk?”
Hanson emerged from behind a column not more than two meters away. Though looking refined in his expensive suit, his countenance was extraordinarily gloomy.
“How may I help you?” Angeline turned around to gaze expressionlessly at the approaching man.
Hanson stared down at her. “Is the news true? Are you really in a relationship with Evander?”
“So what if I am?” Angeline asked in cold amusement. “Who are you to interrogate me, Mr. Yiurk? Have you forgotten about your pregnant fiancée?”
Her aggression caused Hanson’s scowl to deepen alarmingly.
“I’m doing this for your own good. You cannot afford to entangle yourself with Evander!”
Angeline’s expression turned sourer. She was about to retort when she spotted the gorgeous silhouette hidden behind the wall not far away.
A smile appeared on Angeline’s lips. Her five-inch heels allowed her to meet Hanson’s gaze and match his imposing aura with her own. In the next instant, her slender fingers wrapped around Hanson’s necktie and shoved him against the wall.
“Are you showing concern for me, Mr. Yiurk?”
Hanson grimaced in pain as his back collided against the wall, but he was not angry.
Angeline leaned in closer. The tenderness in her eyes confused and fascinated him.
“The entertainment industry does not suit you, Angeline. You are a graduate of a prestigious university, and I can arrange a stable job for you,” he uttered every word with warm sincerity.
Angeline gazed at him. Her seductive gaze suddenly turned cold as she sneered.
Hanson’s expression grew taut.
He only realized that he had fallen into Angeline’s trap when he heard her say, “Have you seen enough, Mrs. Yiurk?”
Joseline stalked out with an expression of deranged fury. “How dare you seduce a married man, you b*tch?” All composure forgotten, she raised her hand.
Just when Joseline’s slap was about to find its mark, Hanson grabbed her wrist in time with a grim look on his face. “Enough! You look like a madwoman.”
“How could you say that about me, Hanson?” she demanded, aggrieved.
Angeline turned to depart with a cold, contemptuous smile crinkling the corners of her eyes. Sounds of the quarrel she started gave her wicked satisfaction.
How weak of Joseline to be angered by such a small act. Without the support of Wilfred, Sorelle Group would have fallen apart in her hands a long time ago.
Nancy waited for Angeline to emerge from the mall and dropped her home. The former departed after ascertaining the time to sign the agreement at Golding Group the following day.
Angeline sank onto her couch. After a moment of thoughtful silence, she rummaged through her purse in search of the gold-plated name card and dialed the number on it.
She had a vague feeling that the man called Jonathan Green knew of her child’s whereabouts.
The call was answered promptly. “Ms. Golding,” came the man’s low rumble on the other end.
“Is my child alive?” Angeline asked tentatively in a hushed voice.
Jonathan did not deny it but chuckled instead. “Looks like you’ve decided to cooperate, Ms. Golding.”
Despite having braced herself, Angeline still felt strangely detached.
She was so worked up that it felt as though her heart was about to beat out of her chest. Even her eyes grew red.
“I will comply with your request,” she said quietly as she clutched her phone, “but you must find out what happened to my child without risking my interests. Otherwise, I will terminate our partnership at any time.”
“Are you that confident, Ms. Golding?” Jonathan’s voice was laced with coldness.
“If you didn’t have a special use for me, you wouldn’t go through all that trouble to make contact,” Angeline replied nonchalantly and hung up without allowing time for him to respond.
Though Angeline did not want to get involved with a stranger, she could not turn a blind eye after Joseline revealed that her child was still alive.
At the moment, Jonathan is my only hope.
She could not sleep that night.
Nancy came the following day to pick Angeline up before they headed to Golding Group to sign the spokesperson contract.
As she had not managed to investigate the culprit who leaked the photo of her and Evander all over the Internet, Angeline was forced to avoid him. Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
After declaring the purpose of their visit at the reception, the women entered Golding Group with surprising uneventfulness.
Angeline sent Nancy to locate Roger, the person overseeing the signing of the agreement, as Angeline was determined to avoid Evander.
While waiting for Nancy in the corridor, she took special care in locating a deserted corner for her to skulk in. I’m going to avoid Evander wherever I can to avoid trouble.
Bang!
Angeline had been so occupied with glancing about furtively that she did not see where she was going, resulting in a collision between her foot and a trash bin.
Grimacing in pain, she bent her knee slightly to touch her heel.
Suddenly, a surprising force yanked her arm and threw her off balance, causing her to fall backward.
“Ah! Help!” Angeline screamed in alarm.
The large hand held her body steady before covering her mouth from the back. A warm breath heaved menacingly beside her ear. “How bold of you, Angeline.”
His cold voice sent a chill down her spine and was sufficient to snap her back to her senses.
Then, she turned around and smiled stiffly. “What are you doing here, Mr. Golding?”
