Game Over No Second Chances

The Jansen family moved into a new place.

Following the same arrangement as in the old place, Serena took the best guest

room.

She'd hired a renovation team to restore everything to how it had been before. However, a few small ornaments Amber had hand-carved for her were missing from the corners. It just lacked the warmth of the old Jansen residence.

Sarah passed by the door, arms crossed over her chest.

"Don't get too full of yourself, Serena. You can have the room, I don't care. I'm moving into the Larson residence soon anyway. I don't need this tiny dump."

Serena turned her head to glance at her.

"Right. After playing guard dog for me all these years, you're not even moving out to a bigger place. You're just switching places to keep living off someone else. You're right, I shouldn't be so pleased. I'd hate for a loyal little watchdog like you to feel hurt."

"Who are you calling a dog? And who's living off someone else? I'm going to be the lady of the family!"

Sarah stomped her foot, fuming.

Serena couldn't be bothered. She locked the door to her room in front of Sarah's face and walked off to find Howard in the living room.

Behind her, being ignored only made Sarah angrier.

She thought, "Just you wait, Serena. When we're all in front of Dad, we'll see who has the last laugh."

They sat down for dinner. All the maids had been sent away.

Serena had just picked up her fork and knife when Howard cleared his throat.

"Nina, Rachel is pregnant. It seems to be a boy. You and Sarah will both have someone to count on in the future."

The silver knife clinked sharply against the porcelain plate.

Rachel was pregnant again?

Serena had been away from the Jansen family for years, and Rachel's belly had stayed quiet all that time. But now, just a few months after she returned, Rachel had gotten pregnant twice.

Was it a coincidence? Or was Rachel feeling threatened by her return?noveldrama

Her thoughts spun.

Sarah chimed in quickly, "Adding a new member to the family is a happy thing: But Serena, why do you look so unhappy? I know you never liked Mom. But this time, please don't bring anyone back to the

house and stir up trouble."

The way she said it made it sound like Serena had intentionally brought Melissa

back just to cause drama.

Before Serena could respond, Howard's face darkened.

"There won't be a next time. The reason I asked you to stay for a few days was so you could spend some time with Rachel. You two need to get along. I'm doing this for your own good.

"Build a relationship with your little brother Even if Hugh ends up ahead of you, having a brother will protect you, especially since you won't have a child of your own."

His words sounded concerned, but all Serena felt was disgust.

She was perfectly capable of taking care of herself. Why should she place her future in the hands of a half-brother who hadn't even been born yet?

And besides, Hugh wasn't dying. He simply couldn't have kids.

Everything Howard said was just another way of breaking her spirit, trying to force her into obedience.

She wanted to get up and leave. However, Amber's belongings were still in his hands. She clenched her jaw and nodded in silence.

Rachel and Sarah were both beyond pleased.

During the few days Serena stayed at the house, she felt like she was walking on nails.

Rachel was now easily fatigued from pregnancy. She would instantly look exhausted every time Serena so much as came out to pour water.

Rachel would snatch the glass from her hand and slump dramatically against the

wall.

"I'm too tired to walk. Serena, help me back to my room."

Serena immediately called for a maid.

But Rachel nitpicked nonstop, blocking her path and refusing to let her leave. She

just kept calling for Serena.
